Hi everyone, I'm Danny. The artist's name is officially DC Medina. But also 9thsky and We Robots Are Happy Robots. I'm from Hartford, CT. I started my journey in music in 8th grade when I learned how to play the trumpet. I did that for three years, and then I moved on to the drums and the timbales at a local church until I graduated high school. In 2010, I began to produce electro house under the name 9thsky and released some really awful music for about 6 months until I took things more seriously and debuted as DC Medina in 2012. In that time I DJed at a few clubs and venues around CT until 2018, when I stopped DJing. My favorite venues will always be The Russian Lady in Hartford and Toad's in New Haven.

Welp, I found a lot of my old stuff. It's crazy to see how much I've grown as a music producer. Like, I went from a kid randomly clicking on off key notes on a step sequencer to fully producing and writing and mastering songs.

If you had told the idiot kid (me) who walked into band in Quirk Middle and learned to play the trumpet the hard way that he would be doing this 20 years in the future, he would've laughed you out of the solar system. Yet, here I am.

I found a bunch of demos, old songs, unreleased music, and renders of lost file in my archives. Wow! The producer from 2010 would not recognize the producer from 2024. I defined my own sound, I learned theory and how to break the rules, I experimented with everything, and now, I'm a much better producer for it.

Does it suck I couldn't do this as a full time career? A little bit. I feel like I would've hated it if it became my career. So, I'm glad it isn't. Because I can focus on what's important: the music.

I've had this itch to produce electro for months and I've been ignoring it. I scratched it when I produced "Blanc" and "Puncak Jayak" for "Mountains" but it wasn't enough.

Electro was the genre where I honed my skills as a producer. About 70% of my catalog is electro (Dutch house, electro house, Big room).

I think it's time I go back.

I present to you "Mountains."

Take a journey with me as I explore the musical qualities of the world's most highest, dangerous and unforgiving peaks. But with the power of music, we ascend their treacherous faces to reach glory. Each song describes the mountain they're named after, and the mountain's history informs the song's theme. "Mountains" is a thematical album rather than a concept album. The theme is about conquering something greater than ourselves. The songs are composed and arranged in a manner that tells a such a story.

I had a lot of fun and frustrations producing this album. Composing the songs took the most out of me. I did a lot of reading and research for each of the mountains featured in the album and a lot more for the ones that didn't make the cut. Conveying all that information into music is very hard. But I tried my best. Sometimes it didn't work out and I had to go back to the drawing board. Other times it was about finding the right sound for the songs. That was even more frustrating than composing. Deciding on whether to design my own sound or use and edit a preset. This album was a lot of work and I'm happy I finished it and I can share it with you all.

Produced between February 2023 - June 2023.
