Introducing Melissa D. Medilien, Esq., a dynamic legal luminary and contributing author to the anthology “The Road to Esquire: Empowering Stories From Black Women Attorneys”!

Melissa serves as Associate Counsel, Labor and Employment at MTA HQ, New York City Transit Authority. She also imparts her expertise as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at Fordham University School of Law, her alma mater.

With over a decade of experience in law, Melissa’s journey includes working at Rivkin Radler, where she handled civil lawsuits under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Her work included affirmative actions to recover insurer claim payments in complex insurance fraud cases.
Prior to her time at Rivkin Radler, Melissa served as an Assistant District Attorney at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office for six years. Her roles included prosecuting felony crimes between intimate partners in the Domestic Violence Bureau, showcasing her dedication to justice.
Beyond her legal career, Melissa is a loving mother and wife, residing in New York City.

Introducing Michelle Y. Talbert, a powerhouse entrepreneur and contributing author of “The Road to Esquire”. Michelle is a trailblazer in the worlds of law, business, and relationship marketing. With her background as a recovering attorney, she now utilizes digital and social media platforms to empower women in business through podcasts, videos, live events, and written publications.

Michelle’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. After persevering through part-time community college for a decade while working as a single mom, she transferred to Cornell University and earned her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania with a Business Certificate from Wharton. In 2012, Michelle left the full-time practice of law to dive into the world of blogging, podcasting, and social media.

In January 2020, Michelle opened the doors to Her Power Space, a Woman forward, Men welcoming™ hospitality-driven coworking space, business event venue, and podcast studio near Fort Lauderdale, FL. Ritha is a powerhouse in the legal, entrepreneurial, and social activism realms, showcasing her unwavering commitment to justice and transformation. As the Interim General Counsel at a prominent not-for-profit organization, Ritha brings her extensive legal acumen to effect tangible change in pursuit of justice and social progress.

Her impressive career spans influential roles, from Associate Labor Counsel and Human Resources Director at Highgate Hotels, Associate General Counsel at SEIU Local 32 BJ, and Assistant District Attorney at Kings County District Attorney’s Office.

Educationally, Ritha holds a Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law, complemented by a Master’s Degree in Bioethics from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government & Politics from St. John’s University.

Beyond her legal career, Ritha is the visionary behind Black Ivy Media, reshaping the narrative of the Black Diaspora through innovative digital content. Her influential “FREEda’s World” podcast celebrates the journeys of accomplished Black women, promoting self-acceptance and empowerment.

Ritha’s commitment to social responsibility extends to co-founding Freda’s House Inc., a non-profit providing essential resources to the local community in Baraderes, Haiti.

Introducing the Hon. Dweynie E. Paul, contributing author of “The Road to Esquire” anthology. Justice Paul, the first judge of Haitian descent elected in New York State, serves as a Justice of the Supreme Court and Supervising Judge of Kings County Civil Court. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Stony Brook University, focusing on public policy and immigrant access to resources. Paul graduated from George Washington University Law School, where she worked in the Vaccine Injury Litigation Clinic and interned for the Queens County Criminal Supreme Court.

Before joining the bench, she practiced as a civil litigator, handling a wide range of cases and engaging in alternative dispute resolution. Since her judicial appointment in 2016, Justice Paul has presided over Family Court cases and contributed to state-wide court improvements. She developed new procedural recommendations in line with the Consumer Credit Fairness Act and promoted community-court engagement.
Justice Paul is active in legal community organizations, advocating for diversity and equity in the legal field. Her community service includes directing programs for the Metropolitan Black Bar Association and serving on Community Board 3. As a Deacon at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, she remains committed to community service. Currently, as the Supervising Judge, she manages a team of 14 judges and hears a variety of civil cases, upholding a reputation for experience, integrity, and compassion.

Introducing Marly Marcellus-Laurent, a powerhouse attorney and contributing author of “The Road to Esquire”. 📚 From her impactful start as a domestic violence and elder abuse prosecutor to her current role as Safety, Content, and Law Enforcement Counsel for a major social media platform, Marly’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. 🌟 Born and raised in Haiti, she arrived in the United States at the age of 12 with a fierce determination to succeed. Previously recognized as a Rising Star by the Haitian American Lawyers Association of New York, Marly continues to shine in her field.

After her tenure as a prosecutor, Marly thrived in various roles, including Parliamentarian and Assistant General Counsel at the New York City Council. She then transitioned to the financial services industry, excelling as a financial crime compliance professional and later as a Legal Counsel at a prestigious international bank.

But Marly’s impact extends beyond her professional achievements. As a former Vice-President of the Haitian American Lawyers Association of New York and current board member of Destiny’s Daughter of Promise, she actively uplifts others through mentorship and community involvement.

Marly is also a loving wife and devoted mother of three.
