Satellite imagery composite of the last 20 hours of the powerful storm that has been absolutely soaking the Pacific Northwest (especially northern California), and bringing gusty winds/power outages to the region.
You can see its rapid intensification just off the coast as it begin to spiral inwards increasingly tightly. Ocean buoys have measured a pressure as low as 950.5 millibars (as low as a category 3 hurricane). This rapid drop in pressure/ intensification of the system (more than 24 millibars in 24 hours) leads to this being referred to as a 'bomb cyclone'.
