Never share a post without checking that it is genuine. Things to look out for.
The post will advertise a lost child, pet , elderly person or similar.
They will ask for people to share the post, however comments will be turned off on the post. This is to stop people being able to say it is a scam.
Next check the profile. Scammers will often have a page instead of a normal profile. The profile will likely have comments saying it is a scam and/or angry faces. There will possibly be negative reviews as well. The profile will often be reasonably new.
Once the post has been shared multiple times, the author will often edit the post to promote the scam. Your friends will see it and believe that you shared a post selling an item, asking for money or whatever the scam is.
Also the more of these posts that get shared, the less people trust when there is genuinely a missing child or something important.
NEVER SHARE A POST WITHOUT CHECKING THAT IT IS GENUINE!

Beware of anyone who says that you have won money. Once they have you excited, they will normally ask you to deposit them some money to be able to access the funds. In this case they wanted me to buy an Apple card. Obviously a few other things didn't add up. Never transfer money to people you don't know! In this case I even claimed that my daughter was in hospital with cancer and I desperately needed money and they were still trying to get me to buy the card. If I had they would have spent the money on the card as soon as I gave them the details.

Quite often when random people message you it is because they are going to try and build a friendship and then ask you for money. Obviously these days it's not uncommon for people to meet online, however there are definitely plenty of scammers who take advantage. If you are trying to figure out if someone is genuine or not, take into consideration how they found you. Do you have mutual friends? Are you in the same Facebook groups? Have you seen each other commenting on posts? Are you in the same town? If the answer to some of those questions is yes, there is more chance that it is genuine, although still be aware that it may lead to them wanting money. If the answer to all of them is no, then there is more chance that the person is trying to scam you. They will message for a long time building a friendship before something goes wrong and they need money. At this point I can't guarantee that this person is going to try and scam me, but I would be very surprised if not. We have absolutely nothing in common on Facebook and it looks like a fake profile. In the meantime I'm just going to have some fun with them and see how long it takes them to have enough and block me.
