Cold weather calls for bold wines, and Toro delivers!🍷

Toro, a wine region in Castilla y León, Spain, is famed for robust reds crafted from Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo). 🇪🇸 is the birthplace of powerful and intense wines, embodying the prestigious DO Toro. This Numanthia 2015 features a bright cherry red hue with ruby highlights. On the palate, it dances with cranberries, blackcurrant, violet, and a hint of cinnamon. Firm and balanced, its supple tannins lead to a finish adorned with minty, mineral, and red berry notes.

FriYAY with Sushi and Champagne! NYC has been so cold, and we're all about staying in for a cozy night! 🍣🍾

And to elevate the night, we're diving into the delicious world of Flavien Nowack, a rising Champagne star known for crafting seriously impressive Pinot Meunier wines. La Fontinette is drawn from a single vineyard of 100% Pinot Meunier planted in 1965. Perched mid-slope on a parcel of sandy clay over a deep layer of marine sediment. Primary fermentation with native yeast, secondary kicked off with frozen grape must, and aged for 30 months - pure deliciousness!

As we step into 2024, what was your most memorable wine from 2023 (not necessarily the most expensive or the best)? 🤗

Amongst a year filled with exceptional bottles, the standout for us was the Poggio di Sotto 2008 enjoyed in Siena. 🇮🇹 After a day of driving and producer visits in Tuscany, we arrived in Siena, famished and exhausted. Entering the cozy haven of Compagnia dei Vinattieri, we ordered a familiar favorite, expecting it to be delicious, but it exceeded all expectations. Robust yet harmonious, unfolding layers of flavors that perfectly complemented the moment. It wasn't just a wine; it was the essence of a journey, completing our Tuscan adventure.

Santa brought us this beautiful Gerard Raphet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru - a perfect balance of fruit, power and elegance. Aromas of earth, baking spices, red and black berries, with fine-grained tannins.

Although I'm not quite ready for the magic of Christmas to be over, I am SO looking forward to the New Year! 💫

In 2013, a new chapter began with Brazilian investors, expanding the estate to 60 hectares. Argiano's diverse portfolio features the flagship Brunello di Montalcino and BdM Riserva, Vigna del Suolo (a single-vineyard Brunello), a Rosso, and two IGT wines Solengo and Non Confunditur.

Sicilian wine - where the magic happens! 🍷🌋 We all know Sicilian wine benefits from its volcanic soil and the high altitude of Mount Etna. But seeing it with my own eyes was truly breathtaking.

is an iconic Sicilian gem with estates planted primarily to native Sicilian grape varieties. The Cavanera Etna estate, perched on ancient lava flows, is home to Vitus vinifera vines over 150-years old. What's incredible is that these vines, among the region's oldest, have stood the test of time, remaining un-grafted and louse-free despite the challenges. The wines are a perfect blend of power and elegance, a true testament to the land.

In the 1990s, Stéphane Moreau took over his family domaine, and over the last 20 years, he elevated it to become one of the top producers in Chablis. He experimented with many innovative approaches to refine his vision of the charismatic Chablis style. Embracing the unconventional idea of organic farming, pursuing optimal grape maturity, focusing on low yields, and carefully selecting barrels, he crafted a wine with ripe, balanced, and unexpectedly textured depth that leaves a lasting impression. After Stéphane's passing, his wife Virginie admirably upheld his philosophy.

The wine itself offers lovely purity and stony depth, showcasing bright floral and bittersweet lemon blossom notes (much like the buddha's hand fruit!), complemented by a subtle top note of petrol. It all concludes with a beautifully delineated finish!

These 'buchette del vino' (wine windows) are small, hinged openings found in historical buildings throughout Florence. 🇮🇹🪟Dating back to the 17th century, Florence's families and wine producers encountered challenges like city taxes and regulations. To sell their wine directly to customers without these fees, they came up with the ingenious idea of installing small windows in their buildings, which faced the street. These wine windows allowed customers to purchase wine directly from the producers without having to enter the establishment.

We've had Damijan's wines many times before, and their Orange wine (Ribolla Gialla) is probably one of my favorites. However, this is my first experience with their Prelit.

Prelit is a full-bodied and structured red made from Merlot and Cab, vinified in wood with long maceration on the skins and aged for 36 months in large barrels. 🍷✨The wine bursts with flavors of berries, blueberries, and a delightful blend of sweet and wild spices. It offers a deep, intense sip with a strong personality, refreshing acidity, and refined elegance.
