The last surviving member of The Band has left us. Godspeed Garth Hudson.

Garth Hudson, whose fantastical approach to the organ and virtuosity on a panoply of other instruments lent a distinctive touch to the roots-rock of the Canadian-American group the Band, has died. He was 87. https://bit.ly/42mheP2

Mike Brewer, 80 years old, American musician (Brewer & Shipley) and songwriter ("One T**e Over the Line"), has passed away. As one half of the folk-rock duo Brewer & Shipley, he gained fame in the 1970s for their harmonies and socially conscious lyrics. "One T**e Over the Line," their best-known song, became a counterculture anthem and even sparked controversy when it was mentioned on "The Lawrence Welk Show." Beyond the spotlight, Brewer contributed to the music world as a talented guitarist and lyricist, leaving a legacy of thoughtful, enduring songs. Godspeed...

Yusuf / Cat Stevens released his fourth LP "Tea for the Tillerman" on Nov. 23, 1970. This album included many of Stevens' best-known songs including "Where Do the Children Play?", "Hard Headed Woman", "Wild World", "Sad Lisa", "Into White", and "Father and Son". Stevens, a former art student, created the artwork featured on the record's cover.

With "Wild World" as an advance single, this was the album that brought Stevens world-wide fame. The album itself charted into the top 10 in the United States, where he previously had few listeners.

When is the last time you listened to this record all the way through?

Happy 54th no Birthday to "Tea for the Tillerman"!!

On this day in 1971, the Cat Stevens LP “Teaser and the Firecat” debuted on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart at #143 (October 9)

“Teaser and the Firecat” is also the title of a children's book written and illustrated by Cat Stevens.

The story features the title characters from the album cover, top-hatted young Teaser and his pet, Firecat, who attempt to put the moon back in its place after it falls from the sky.

The album features the hits "Morning Has Broken", "Moonshadow" and "Peace Train", and surpassed the heights achieved by his previous album, (the classic “Tea for the Tillerman”).

It reached #2 in both the UK and US, and spent fifteen weeks at #1 on the Australian charts, becoming the biggest-selling album in the country in 1972.

The legendary Rick Wakeman played piano on "Morning Has Broken".

He's a "Space Cowboy" and he is celebrating his birthday today. Steve Miller has 81 candles on his birthday cake this year.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Miller received his first exposure to music from his mother, Bertha, whom he described as a remarkable non-professional jazz-influenced singer, and his physician father, George, known as "Sonny" who, in addition to his profession as a pathologist, was a jazz enthusiast and accomplished amateur recording engineer. Guitar virtuoso Les Paul and his musical partner Mary Ford were regular visitors at the Miller house. Dr. and Mrs. Miller were best man and maid of honor at the December 1949 wedding of Les Paul and Mary Ford. Les Paul heard Steve, who was about five, on a wire recording made by Dr. Miller, as the youngster was "banging away" on a guitar given to him by his uncle, Dr. K. Dale Atterbury. Paul encouraged Miller to continue with his interest in the guitar ... and "perhaps he will be something one day." It worked. Steve has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Not only was that Les Paul guy a great guitarist and guitar designer, but he also had an eye for talent.

Happy Birthday Steve!!! If you could be at Steve's birthday party tonight and he said he would play you just one song, which song would you request?
