Our party arrived in the forest known as Rootcreep just in time to stand with the treant Pinecrest against an incursion of orcs who charged into the tree line with an ettin on their side! Our Hexblade warlock Billie and Paladin Valiss formed the front line, but a clever casting of spiked growth between the fighters and the ettin forced the stupid creature to drag itself through the thorny vines. Behind him, the orcs looked to join the battle but were trapped within the bounds of Hunger of Hadar; Valiss then used their prayer beads to cast Animate Objects, and brought boulders and fallen trees to life in his own army to counter the orcs. The animated objects could pass through the magical darkness without issue, and take attacks at advantage against the many orcs crushing them to death easily. Ori had a tripling for the ettin ready to go but didn’t even need to use it, instead raining crossbow bolts into the ettin from their treetop perch. With such an overwhelming display of strength, Pinecrest happily tasked the party to awaken the elder treant Jacaranda Indigrow from their grove to the north. “Do this for us, and we will do far more than allow you to pass through Rootcreep!”

Friday’s session: Tempest fiends dwell in the heart of storms, and call upon their home’s fury to unleash balls of lightening that they can attack from (similar to chain devils.) This one pounced upon our warlock satyr Alina when she failed her dex save and tumbled down a cliff in a mudslide, but Paladin Valiss and warlock Billie flung themselves into the fray to help, with Valiss using their spring eladrin feystep to toss Alina back up. From the high ground, Cheshire caused their enemy to be frightened, keeping them from moving forward toward cover and making it easy shots from above by rogue Ori. Between sneak attacks and a powerful use of the mental prison spell, the party made short work of the otherworldly being.

The Feast of the Noble Vale is held every few years to celebrate the greatest chefs Alberon has to offer, as the champion team is challenged by newcomers to the industry. DM Cara brought us through this amazing one-shot that saw six colorful chefs forage and hunt their own food, before cooking and serving one dish each while trying to avoid sabotage from the other team! Tois-Jie, classical seafood; Mamela, master of cakes; Tunden Schmeff the Wonder Chef; Morrow, greatest sandwich maker in the land; KOR, cooks meat; and Gakki, a soupsmith formed the challenging team this year (Matt, Olive, Joe, Vincent, and Alanna as players!)

The most intense battle in my career pitted The Wandering Hearts against the king of the fire giants and a fire giant dreadnought, in the central chamber of a volcano as the lava rose steadily. The battle went back and forth, with our bard Cheshire dying outright leaving only Paladin Valiss and Warlock Alina up; Valiss used all of their remaining healing (two points of lay on hand) to bring our Druid Mynka back to life with two death saves on the edge of lava, who was then able to revivify Cheshire, and swing the tide of battle. I was physically and mentally exhausted after running this one, but a huge congrats to the players from overcoming what we all resigned ourselves to as a TPK through chains of crazy rolls and amazing ideas. I’m just sad my fingers stopped working so I couldn’t finish painting my fire giants :(

As our party snuck past a Zon-Kuthon ritual, they noticed an android with the same model as our android operative ECCO, and felt they had to intervene to rescue the ECCO unit. What followed was an amazing attempt at a coordinated two-person assassination (and it almost worked) and a fight with a Servant of Midnight and the cultists. Just as the tides began to turn, the temperature dropped, and Emma appeared, intervening against the cultists (but perhaps not FOR the party?) we had to leave off midway, but this is one of the most action-packed fights of the campaign so far!

What’s worse than fighting a fire giant? A fire giant riding a tyrannosaurus rex! To reach the central section of the ruined fire genasi city, our party tried to sneak past, but Valiss isn’t very sneaky. Ori made excellent use of the tower to achieve sneak attack, and both Billie and Valiss took on massive creatures toe-to-toe!

Even with Pass Without a Trace active our party flubbed stealth checks to sneak past two fire giants! Half the party fought the giants toe-to-toe, but as one fire giant doused themselves with pitch and set themselves ablaze, the tides shifted. Billie was downed, and hit while unconscious on the ground instantly putting her life in peril… but with expert distractions from Cheshire the party was able to disappear into the ruins, leaving enraged fire giants howling in the city. Infiltration of Kuatar Artraya just got harder.

Our party couldn’t quite sneak past the cultists standing watch outside a warehouse. Once engaged, the team was forced to engage the entire warehouse full, discovering a blood ritual in-progress! They were unable to save the sacrifice, but a natural 20 combined with the clever use of a couch and shop-vac managed to save the day. The party was able to make it to the apartment of the NPC they were following, and found a map… but it wasn’t in the best shape.

Our party attempted to steal the egg of a rahir (fire-flavored behir) in last week’s session, but had to resort to combat after levitating it’s egg out of the volcanic fissure it was stored in caused them to notice! It fell largely to the warlocks Billie and Alina to distract the creature, while Cheshire cast Slow to powerful effect, and Mynka took the Chalice form to keep the party alive; Valiss got the egg to safety, but it was Ori, with the aid of sneak attack, who felled the beast.

Our party came to the rescue of a besieged soup kitchen in the abandoned part of Prime Station and fought off members of the highly augmented Huskhead gang in our session this week! The corner of the overpass was weakened by a fuel cell being tossed by one of our players and shot by another; our ysoki mystic Gibbs brought the whole thing down with Times Edge, and created a much-needed barrier between the party on the ground and the Huskhead fire support team in the top of the apartment building.

Our crew also went in costume last week, each as our own characters! In the front is Cara as the sarcastic hexblood bardlock Billie; middle center is Tina as Cheshire, the chaotic pink elf bard; Hannah donned a glorious red wig to be Alina, satyr warlock (and envoy of Cernunnos); Vincent made his own armor for Valiss, the eladrin Paladin with a knack for speaking with animals; Alanna turned herself blue to be the genasi circle of stars druid, Mynka; and Matt in the top right corner pulled together a flawless costume for their rogue inquisitive Ori, the only non-caster in the party.

The second fire giant was much faster, and utilized bursts of superheated hair to move quickly and knock enemies prone. On top of that, a pair of lesser fire elementals pincered the party from the lava pools! The Wandering Hearts were victorious, but found this fight MUCH more challenging, with half the party being downed at one point.

On the volcanic beach of Karutar Artraya our party faced off against their first fire giant! It was resource expensive, but the party came out on top, having taken minimal damage!

Our session this week featured some drow assassins ambushing the party in Hanger 11 of Prime Station, our version of Absalom Station from and both Gibbs and Spise badly hurt. The entire party almost walked away without further issue… but Bubbles handled an interaction with the Prime Law Enforcement agent with all the grace of a brick hitting jello.

Valiss the spring eladrin paladin talks to some of the turtles native to the shores of Lake Tarcana; Mynka, our genasi druid of stars prepares some tasty soup; Billie the bardlock looks into the flames and ponders who her patron is; Ori, our lone non-caster/rogue, glowers into the fire; the highly-magical bard Cheshire uses minor illusions to annoy Ori; and the satyr warlock Alina strategizes with her new imp familiar, Rezzit M’lar. These are the Wandering Hearts, our adventuring party for the second of ten planned campaigns, done for us by the fabulously talented (and just fabulous in general)

In the Hollow Husk district of Prime Station (our version of Absalom Station in our homebrew universe) our party was waylaid by Divers, emancipated humans who had become trapped in full-dive virtual reality game. Though weak from malnutrition, the adrenaline of the “raid” they were taking part in allowed them to tear with teeth, nails, rusty pipes, and every other piece of refuse they could find! Huge shoutout to Dan who has been printing general terrain for me now for a few months; it really made the battlefield spectacular.

We welcomed to their 30th year, while bidding adieu to the solar-system-spanning Tony Express transport train in our session this week, while dressed in animated character attire! The party ended session 69 dropping into the Drift, and on approach to Prime Station.

After the Dark One rose and nearly threw the entire continent of Everest into chaos, the four factions (each backed by a Fey court) signed the Treaty of Four Seasons to outline how disputes between powers would be handled, as well as outline how larger threats would be dealt with. When the treaty is threatened, a team is assembled by Hyrsam, a neutral party with a fealty only to the Feywild, will be called together from throughout Everest to investigate. This is their badge, the Treaty Seal, which symbolizes the connections between the Magiocracy of the Rising Storm, The Emerald Spire, the Republic of Vulkananberer, and the Divine Court.

Alina, satyr warlock (Pact of the Genie) played by and brought to life through ‘s art. Alina is a long-standing member of the Revelry of the Thorn, a community of fey-adjacent creatures who fight hard to protect the wild parts of Everest… and party even harder, all in the name of Cernunnos.

After fighting through the ruins of Kiir Lor Tel’el’dar, our party finally crossed into the Shadowfell and fought the succubus they’d been approaching for the last six sessions! It was a great fight, with our rogue landing the killing blow with his HP maximum reduced to 1, by landing a critical hit a turn before she killed him!

“The Viper’s Pit” is a combat arena at the Katydid Coral and Casino on the livelier side of the establishment. Our party stepped in as last-minute replacements for the beasts they slew after they escaped, and fought the Katydid Queen! This was a performance, not a fight to the death (though the group was cautioned that it HAD happened before) and Mosaic Team 5 stepped up to the task, putting on an astounding performance that had the arena so packed that spectators began nearly being pushed into the ring! So much for keeping a low profile…

Our family has grown a lot since we began in 2019. These are our weekly players, but our family includes partners, pets, children, and parents as well. I’m very grateful to know these people and call them my friends. Our human monk Shae at the end of campaign one. She began session one as an initiate of the Xinyi monastic order, and over the course of our four year campaign, saw her home destroyed, their leader slain, and many of her friends lost when the 9th Path split off from the order; Shae also found her people a new home, and helped guide them to a future where they might soar higher than ever before. Great art from who played in campaign one (and currently in campaign two!)

Within the ruins of the fortress Kiir Lor Tel’el’dar, our party had to find four locks to open the final door. Valiss made a quick friend in the rat who called himself Silverpaw, but not everything was friendly. In one of the rooms, located off a barracks, was an armor repair station in-use by duergar who seemed charmed, like many of the others…

In a special summer-themed one-shot, Hannah, Cara, Matt, special guest Keven, and extra special guest (my partner in life) Emily step into the roles of camp counselors who have arrived the day before campers to set up activity stations! What could possibly go wrong at Camp Brightcove? We found out…

My absolutely amazing found family (and the people I have the privilege to play games with every week) had this DM screen waiting when I got back from vacation… words can’t describe. I’ve been using the same starter cardboard one since 2019, I never imagined something so fancy! Matt, Vincent, Tina, Dan, Cara, Olive, Hannah, Ari, Olive… you guys are amazing. I can’t wait to start telling stories from behind this thing on Thursday!

A band of infosphere influencers are recruited by the USR’s Vice division to go undercover at the party of the year to document a criminal transaction that was known to be taking place there. The party arrived on the private island to find “The Rude Sandstorm” a wildly popular one-skittermander DJ-performer putting on a private show at a party geared toward influencers, and though their only task was to take pictures and get out, the party devolved into violence QUICKLY.

We’re officially on break! Next week, join Hannah, Vincent, Matt, Cara, Olive, and Dan for “The Influencers,” an original one-shot set in-canon to Mosaic Team 5, using the system! The following week, join Matt, Emily, Hannah, Keven, and Cara, for an original one-shot called “Camp Brightcove!” Both games are in-canon to our main campaigns, and we’re written/GMed by Joe Treff. The lower level of the Alkarash Crossroads leads to four different “trains” that span the solar system to various destinations. En route to their train (The Tony Express) our team was ambushed by rocket-propelled goblins sent after our lashunta envoy, Spise!

After our rogue Ori aroused suspicion by telling their friendly NPC guide “you can go to sleep, I won’t steal from you” Shadowsoother Nojdeido removed his charms that kept the shadows at bay while he rested, trusting Alina to keep watch. Alina promptly fell asleep, and in no time at all the shadows fell upon the party while they slept.

Pre-recorded a special one-shot yesterday to stream when we are on summer break for two weeks! “The Influencers” saw a team of infosphere influencers recruited by law enforcement to gather evidence of a narcotics deal that was set to occur at a beach party/concert. This was a blast, and we can’t wait to share it with you on 07/28.

After dropping into the Drift, the Cyberceps Coleoptera (or Ceps Bugs for short) began to devour the ship from within! These strange, UPB-based constructs could grind down items, weapons, and even the ship itself to create copies of itself! The crew fought them back, but lost their Engineering Station, a hovercycle, and a shadow pistol in the process.

After following Gibbs’ cousin Crumbs deep into the abandoned mines of the asteroid Siren 308A, our party found out that Siren was more than a name! Eager to be rejoined with more of its biomass, the prymanism lured organic forms to the system to mine deeper and deeper, freeing more of itself, and growing smarter and stronger through the process. This was an epic showdown, with complex mechanics and great roleplay. Can’t wait to experience the fallout next week! The party uses miniatures, the prymanism is a pre-painted mini from and the terrain is from all over, and painted by me.

The GPF, a major antagonistic force, has blue circles on its flag to represent the planets within the Protectorate.
