Dear Mama

Dear Mama

Dubbed as the “Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur,” the five-part docuseries directed by Allen Hughes “Dear Mama” gets a new release date.

From Emmy Award®-nominated director Allen Hughes (The Defiant Ones) comes a five-part cinematic television event exploring two voices, activist Afeni Shakur and hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur, that could not be silenced.

Told through the eyes of the people who knew them best, Dear Mama is an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice are more relevant today than ever. The title for the new docuseries stems from Tupac’s 1995 hit single, “Dear Mama.” The iconic hip hop classic had a 23-year-old Tupac putting the relationship between himself and his mother Afeni Shakur, on full display for the world. The good, the bad, it was all laid out on the table, making even grown men cry.

“When I was young, me and my mama had beef
17 years old, kicked out on the streets
Though back at the time I never thought I’d see her face
Ain’t a woman alive that could take my mama’s place,” Tupac.

Back on Mother’s Day, FX released the first official teaser for the upcoming docuseries, which was slated for fall of 2022. Fans have been patiently waiting over three years for the release of the highly anticipated docuseries. Allen Hughes’ incredible piece on Tupac’s segment in “Defiant Ones,” adds to that anticipation. Back in 2019, FX announced they would air a new Tupac docuseries, led by the Hughes Brothers. The two brothers have reunited after eleven years for the project. Allen Hughes has full access to Tupac’s released and unreleased material, writings, and poetry. All of which was granted by the Tupac Estate.

Unfortunately, viewers have to wait a little bit longer. As it was revealed on Christmas Day via Tupac’s official Instagram account, “Dear Mama” is set for a Spring 2023 release. “Afeni had the vision, Tupac shared it with the world. FX’s , a new docuseries. This Spring on . Stream on Hulu. ,” read the caption of the new teaser. “I’m most like my mom, because I’m arrogant. Totally arrogant,” says a teenage Tupac Shakur in the newly released teaser.

Jen Shah made a shocking revelation on Wednesday night’s episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and it has to do with a phenomenon that public figures unfortunately know all too well: social media trolls.

During a sit-down with fellow RHOSLC stars Heather Gay and Lisa Barlow, Jen was initially getting grilled on her behavior during the cast trip to San Diego.

In response, Jen then brought up that she was upset over some of the women still being cool with Angie Harrington, a “friend” on the show. This sentiment was on account of Angie’s husband, Chris, creating an Instagram page called , which was a troll account dedicated to trashing Jen and Lisa.

Jen Shah Says The Backlash Got To Be Too Much: ‘I Tried To Commit Suicide’
After some back and forth on the matter, Jen revealed that she attempted su***de after learning about .

“I almost committed su***de. I tried to, okay, because your friend is heartless and tried to drag me and my entire family.”

Jen further spoke on her su***de attempt in the confessional.

“When I found out about , it came on a day when there was just a lot of negativity dealing with the trial, and I got to the point where, that day, I was done.”

She shared that she ultimately locked herself in the bathroom, though her husband—Sharrieff Shah—knocked down the door. He then took her to the hospital, where she was admitted for two-and-a-half days.

Later, during a group dinner, Jen reiterated her revelation.

“I tried to commit su***de and then Sharrieff had to take me to the hospital, so that’s why the Angie Harrington and Chris Harrington thing hit my husband so hard, because I did try to take my life.”

The Scandalous Situation Played Out On The Show
The subject of internet trolls spreading hate about Jen, as well as Lisa Barlow, has been a recurring conversation this season, and with good reason.

Earlier episodes included discussion of , as it was uncovered that the account was run by Chris Harrington.

After being confronted with the evidence, he admitted to it on the show. As a result of his meddling, Jen hilariously wrote him off as a “fat f**king elf on the shelf.”

However, aside from clapping back, we also have to note that Jen acknowledged the trolls’ impact on her mental health.

During conversations with her mother and husband this season, Jen addressed how the backlash would sometimes be so bad that she would consider su***de. She also acknowledged taking antidepressants to help manage her day-to-day life.

However, last night’s episode was the first time that Jen spoke on actually trying to take her own life.

The Online Hate Is Connected To Her Legal Woes
The entire troll situation is inextricably tied to Jen’s legal situation.

Back in early 2021, as the series was filming its second season, federal authorities accused Jen of being involved in a telemarketing scheme that preyed on older adults.

This brought on a plethora of backlash against Jen, though she maintained that the legal matter was all a misunderstanding.

Despite her continual proclamations of being “innocent,” Jen plead guilty to wire fraud during the summer. With this plea agreement, Jen Shah can be sentenced to a maximum of 14 years behind bars.

While she was initially set to be sentenced on November 18, her court date was moved to December 15. Eventually, it was rescheduled again for January 6, 2023.

If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal ideation, help is available by dialing 988.

Nick Cannon is sharing more details about his late son Zen’s cancer diagnosis and unfortunate passing.

According to PEOPLE, the father of 12 recently appeared on The Checkup with Dr. David Agus and shared how he and Alyssa Scott initially learned of their son’s cancer.

He was healthy, active, always smiling…

However, when the infant was around two months old, Cannon and Scott noticed Zen’s “interesting” breathing patterns.

We [also] noticed his head was a little larger, [but] all my kids have big heads. I was a big-headed baby.

The parents initially suspected that the infant had asthma and took him to see a pediatrician. The doctor was immediately concerned with the size of the baby’s head — something that Cannon recalled as the “first sign something was occurring.”

The Cancer Diagnosis
They did a lot of tests. They didn’t let him leave the hospital. And so you could imagine you think you’re taking your son in to get a checkup for — at the worst, I was thinking asthma, you know? And to know that he gets diagnosed with brain cancer, that was a shock.

According to the outlet, Zen Cannon was diagnosed with “high-grade glioma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.” In the beginning, there were a couple of procedures the couple was “all for.” One included using a shunt to “drain fluid from Zen’s brain” and decrease his head’s rapid growth.

Cannon noted that he and Scott wanted to prioritize the quality of Zen’s life.

That, to me, made logical sense. There was less pain on him and the procedure was quick. It was all about quality of life.

Cannon shared that doctors then informed him that his son could live up to “three or four years old.” After hearing that, Cannon recalled that he wanted Zen to have “the best existence he could have.”

Chemotherapy
Cannon then questioned doctors about whether the use of chemotherapy would extend Zen’s life or lessen his suffering. Doctors affirmed that cancer treatment wouldn’t have a significant positive impact on either, due to the placement of Zen’s tumor.

Seeing your son hooked up to all of those machines — and he had to go for a shunt two or three times, and that was heartbreaking every time — even in that short amount of time, I couldn’t imagine him having to go through chemo.

Cannon, who has struggled with lupus and used chemotherapy as a form of treatment, said he “knew what that did to me.”

I knew how as a full-grown man, that process… My hair was falling out. I wouldn’t even call it pain; it just sucked everything out of you. I couldn’t imagine that on a newborn and what that would do.

In addition, Cannon recalled that Zen would have to “live in the hospital.” At that point, he and Scott wanted to enjoy their son and also have him enjoy them.

Cannon added that he couldn’t have gotten through that difficult time without Scott’s “resilience”. The parents knew “the transition was coming” and although it was happening “faster” than they imagined, they still were able to share “beautiful moments.”

Luckily we did everything from the sunrise, going to the beach, the sunset, said some beautiful prayers as a family, and really came together as a family in a very beautiful way. I’m grateful for that, but it was definitely tough. To see your child there, suffering at a point and watching things shut down, it was pretty intense.”

Cannon and Scott are now awaiting the arrival of their second child together, as previously reported by 1059 JAM

The internet was left with questions after Ashanti and Nelly teamed up for a spicy performance at a recent concert. Since then, fans have wondered whether the singer would be open to giving her former rapper boo a second shot at love.

And now, they may have gotten some insight into the 42-year-old’s thoughts.

Ashanti recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. And two fans from Long Island were quick to dig into the steamy performance.

Ashanti, what was your reaction to everyone freaking out over you grinding on Nelly during your performance of “Body On Me” last weekend? And Sam wanted you to follow in JLo and Ben’s footsteps.

Host Andy Cohen, Ashanti, and fellow guest Morris Chestnut were stunned by the question.

“Oh my God, wow!” exclaimed Ashanti, as she laughed.

Cohen chimed in.

People online have been wanting you and Nelly to get back together — it’s all I’m saying.

Ashanti replied by saying she “saw a lot of comments.”

I mean, my reaction was ‘Wow.’ You know, it was a lot of comments and a lot of people wanting that. Um, what I will say is [that] we’re in a better place — cause before it was like — but you know, we’re cool now… We had some conversations, you know. So it’s cool.

“But you’re not getting back together?” Cohen further questioned.

“I mean, I don’t…” Ashanti replied, laughing.

Fans’ Reactions

Fans have already begun taking to social media, sharing their reactions to Ashanti’s commentary — and the chance at a possible reunion for the ex-couple.

It ain’t nobody’s business Ashanti! Keep us guessing.

We did it Joe. He got a spin da block pass.

Love em together, there is a chance. They should try again and make babies straight upppp

She miss that old thangggggg

As we previously reported, the duo stunned fans with their performance at Power 98.3 and Power 96.1‘s “Under The Mistletoe” concert.

Do you think Nelly may have a second chance with Ashanti?

A breaking update was made on the third day of testimonies in Tory Lanez’s shooting trial.

Kelsey Nicole Harris, Meg Thee Stallion’s ex-friend, has been granted immunity after asking for immunity during the opening of her testimony according to LA Times reporter James Queally. Reportedly, the District Attorney claimed they had no plans of prosecuting her.

“Kelsey Harris testimony at Tory Lanez trial began with her showing up with an attorney and asking for immunity. It was granted even after the DA swore they had no intent to prosecute her,” Queally reported.

He added that “Kelsey spent a little less than 40 minutes on the stand, saying a lot of her memory of the party was “blurry” because of alcohol consumption. She accused Megan of lying about her and called accusations she shot Megan ‘ridiculous.'”

By definition, since Harris is given immunity, she is granted an exemption that displaces the privilege against self-incrimination; neither compelled testimony nor any fruits of it can be used against the witness who, therefore, can no longer fear self-incrimination.

Kelsey Pleads The Fifth When Asked If Tory Lanez Threatened To Shoot Her
According to the coverage from Queally, Kelsey Nicole also testifies that Megan Thee Stallion was acting out & drunk at party before shooting incident during her afternoon testimony. The reported says she also pleaded the 5th when asked if Tory threatened her.

She generally painted Megan as drunk and acting out at the party before the fight in the SUV that predated the shooting. Key moment came when DDA Kathy Ta asked if Lanez had threatened to shoot Kelsey an Kelsey took the 5th.

According to reporter Nancy Dillon, Kelsey Nicole also addressed accusations that she shot Megan Thee Stallion while testifying, calling the theory “ridiculous.”

Prosecutor Kathy Ta: “Were there accusations about you having shot Megan?” (Megan Thee Stallion)

Kelsey Harris: “There were.”

Prosecutor: “And how do you feel about them?”

Harris: “I mean, it’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous.”

Kelsey Arrives Court To Testify
We previosuly reported that The Shade Room was on scene for day three of Tory Lanez shooting trial in Los Angeles, and spotted alleged victim Megan Thee Stallion‘s former friend Kelsey Harris as she entered the courthouse to take the stand on Wednesday.

Harris could be seen exiting a black SUV with what appeared to be a security detail, and was holding hands with a mystery man as she entered the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

This story is still developing.

New information is still being learned after the third day of testimonies has come to a close in the shooting trial of Megan Thee Stallion. Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former friend, has revealed shocking new information about how her relationship with Tory Lanez has come to be. As well as that of Meg Thee Stallion.

Harris’ Shocking Testimony

Harris began her testimony by telling the court that she didn’t want to be present today. When asked what was triggering her, she replied, “lies from Megan.”

“What lies?” Harris was asked.

That I betrayed her. That I am a bad friend. That I took hush money.

Harris called the allegations that she allegedly shot Megan “ridiculous.” And also disclosed how she came to meet rapper Tory Lanez.

Me and Meg both met him at the same time at a Roc Nation brunch.

She continued by saying that after they met, Megan Thee Stallion wanted her and Lanez to hook up. The two became engaged in an “intimate relationship.” But when Harris fell ill with COVID, Megan Thee Stallion allegedly began hooking up with Lanez herself.

The Gathering At Jenner’s House & Departing Car Ride
Harris told the court that she arrived at the gathering at Jenner’s house around 3 or 4 p.m. She added there was a lot of alcohol present at the gathering and she even passed out.

Harris also said that Lanez was indeed flirting with Kylie Jenner and Megan had become agitated.

Megan wanted to leave the gathering with Lanez, but he refused, recalled Harris. She and Megan then left but returned shortly after because the rapper allegedly forgot her “slipper.”

After Megan retrieved the item, she returned to the car with Lanez.

Harris then revealed that the car ride leaving the premises was when she learned of Megan and Lanez’s intimate relationship. She alleges that intense arguing ensued between the three of them. And Megan began to scrutinize Lanez’s music career.

When asked if Lanez ever verbally indicated that he would shoot Megan during the argument, Harris confirmed. However, she invoked her fifth amendment right to silence when asked for the context of Lanez’s threat.

Rest In Peace Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss

Stephen “tWitch” Boss, the amiable DJ for “Ellen DeGeneres Show” and dancer who rose to fame on “So You Think You Can Dance,” has died, his wife, fellow dancer Allison Holker Boss, confirmed in a statement to CNN.

He was 40.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us,” Holker Boss said in a statement. “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”

“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt,” she added. “I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.”

No further information was provided regarding the cause of his death.

CNN has reached out to the LAPD and the LA County Coroner for comment.

Holker Boss concluded her statement by saying “Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”

The couple celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary just days ago.

He was mourned on social media Wednesday by many who shared videos of him dancing and their memories.

“A kind soul and a sweet person.. that is how I will remember Twitch… This was his 40th birthday party .. my heart goes out to his family especially Allison and their beautiful kids.. this is devastating… I love you brother and will miss you dearly,” daytime TV host and comedian Loni Love tweeted.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Boss earned his nickname as a child when he couldn’t sit still.

He graduated from Lee High School in Montgomery in 2000 and went on to study Dance Performance at Southern Union State Community College and Chapman University.

Six years ago he spoke with author and former football player Lewis Howes for the latter’s podcast and talked about his background, including being raised by a single mother and how his relationship with his absentee father helped shape him.

“I have always been that type ‘Don’t tell me what I won’t do,’” Boss said. “I remember talking to [his father] outside of his work in the parking lot and telling him ‘Hey, I’m joining the dance team. I’m going to need some shows and some money to get supplies’ and he went on this tangent…I was like ‘Oh, that means I’m really supposed to do this then.’”

In 2003, Boss was a semifinalist on MTV’s “The Wade Robson Project” and was also a runner-up on the television talent competition, “Star Search.”

Becoming a runner up on “So You Think You Can Dance” in 2008 marked the beginning of his rise to fame and he would later return to serve as a judge for the dance competition.

Elle DeGeneres brought him on as the DJ of her popular daytime talk show in 2014, a job he held until the show went off the air this year. Boss was also a coexecutive producer of the show.

He stayed in touch with fans via his popular social media accounts, often sharing videos of him dancing with his wife.

The pair were all-star dancers on Season 7 of “So You Think You Can Dance” in 2010 and connected romantically.

“We shared a dance at the wrap party of that season of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and we have been together ever since,” Boss told People in February.

“There was no dialogue, there was no conversation or a first hangout. Literally, we danced and we were together holding hands the very next day,” Holker Boss added. “And we never looked back.”

The pair are the parents of three children. Boss’ final Instagram post on Monday showed him and Holker Boss dancing in front of a Christmas tree.

A jury is pondering a possible death sentence for a Florida man who pleaded guilty to brutally murdering his wife and their four young children and driving around with their bodies in the back of his van for several weeks.

Michael Wayne Jones, 41, admitted to beating his wife to death with a baseball bat in 2019. After she was dead, he said that he murdered her four small children over the next few days. He stored their bodies in tote bags and drove them around in the back of his van.

According to an arrest report previously obtained by PEOPLE, Jones told responding officers that he killed his wife, Casei Jones, after she looked through his phone and accused him of infidelity. He claimed she had poked him with a baseball bat during the ensuing argument, and he took the bat and beat her with it in a rage.

After killing his wife, he killed his two stepsons, Cameron Bowers, 10, and Preston Bowers, 5. Police say that he strangled Cameron before choking Preston with a zip tie and drowning him in the bathtub. He put both boys' bodies in suitcases.

Later, he drowned his two daughters -- Mercalli Jones, 2, and Aiyana Jones, 1 -- in a bathtub and put their bodies in a duffel bag, he admitted.

Jones drove the bodies around in the back of his van until he got into a single-car accident on September 15, 2009 — approximately two months after the killing spree began. The responding officer detected the smell of decomposition and searched the vehicle, finding his wife's body.

Jones then took authorities to a wooded area where he had dumped the four children's bodies.

Jones is in the sentencing portion of his trial. Prosecutors argue that the brutal killings call for the death penalty. According to WESH-TV, multiple witnesses spoke out, saying that Jones had been abusive to his wife.

But Jones' defense attorneys argue that he suffered a traumatic upbringing, including being molested by his father and abused by a stepfather. They are seeking life in prison instead of the death penalty.

The penalty portion of Jones' trial will continue through the week.

Three toddlers were found dead in a home that caught fire Monday morning in North Carolina, according to officials.

Greensboro Fire Department Deputy Chief Dwayne Church said first responders arrived at the scene on Grimsley Street around 8 a.m., just four minutes after receiving a call about a house fire, according to FOX affiliate WGHP and NBC affiliate WXII-TV.

Danny Nguyen, 13, who lives behind the home, made the call upon spotting the blaze while preparing for school, CBS affiliate WFMY-TV reported.

"I looked outside from the bathroom window and I saw fire and it was all smoking," Nguyen said.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames and enter the home, but were unable to save the children trapped inside, WFMY reported.

The toddlers, found in a bedroom, were pulled out through a window, but did not survive, per the report.

The children killed were a 3-year-old and a set of 1-year-old twins, according to WGHP.

"This is devastating to the Fire Department, devastating to the community and this family," Church said, the station reported.

"For some of our firefighters, this is the first time they've seen anything like this," he added.

The children's mother was transported to Cone Health in Greensboro and is expected to recover, Church said, according to WFMY.

"I can't imagine what the family's going through, and I would ask the viewers to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers," the fire official told reporters on Monday, per WXII.

Greensboro City Councilwoman Sharon Hightower said the news is especially hard to hear as the holidays approach.

"We're right near around a holiday season which should be a time of joy, but right now, it's just so much sadness surrounding this situation," Hightower said, according to WXII.

Investigators are reportedly looking into what caused the fire. The medical examiner has yet to announce an official cause of death for the children killed in the blaze.

His representative, Raya, confirmed the news Tuesday via a statement on her Instagram, writing, "No, I am not okay. I'm devastated."

"Anyone who really knows me knows how much pure love and respect I had for him and out of respect for him and his family, I'm staying quiet right now," the statement read. "I do not need to post pictures nor stories to profess anything. I pray for a peaceful and easy transition."

Megan Thee Stallion has taken the stand in the felony assault trial of singer Tory Lanez, who is accused of shooting the "Plan B" rapper in the foot in July 2020.

Megan, 27, entered the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday dressed in a bright purple suit, and directed a smile at a group of cheering fans who'd been waiting in the hallway to see her.

Lanez, meanwhile, entered the building shortly after while holding hands with his young son.

Megan was called to the witness stand on the second day of the trial, which stems from a 2020 incident in which Lanez allegedly shot the "Sweetest Pie" rapper in the foot three times after yelling, "Dance, bitch!"

The pair, whom Megan has said had a friendly relationship before the incident, allegedly got into an argument in the car while leaving a Hollywood Hills party thrown by Kylie Jenner. Her former friend Kelsey Nicole was also in the vehicle.

"I just don't feel good," Megan, her voice cracking, told the court after being asked if she was nervous, according to Rolling Stone. "I can't believe I have to come up here and do this."

The Grammy-winning rapper recounted her personal relationships with both Lanez, 30, and Nicole, and said that she and Lanez began arguing after she wanted to leave Jenner's house and he didn't. Her stylist had left the party, and she therefore needed Lanez to give her a ride.

Megan told the court that as they left in the car, Lanez argued with both her and with Nicole, calling them "bi***es" and other expletives. She said she exited the vehicle while it was on a main street—but once she realized she didn't know the area, made moves to get back inside, citing her status as a celebrity.

The star said she was facing the car and saw Lanez shoot her as he stood above her on one of the SUV's steps.

Prosecutors said during opening statements on Monday that the shots left three bullet fragments in Megan's feet, and that the argument began after Megan criticized his "musical skills," according to BuzzFeed News.
Texts from Lanez to Megan in which he apologized and said he "genuinely just got too drunk" but "can't change what I did" were reportedly read in court, though Lanez's defense attorneys claimed he was not admitting to shooting a gun, but to being sexually involved with both Megan and Kelsey Nicole.

Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, was charged in October 2020 with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to both charges in November 2020.

In October 2022, he was ordered under house arrest and electronic monitoring, with Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott arguing at the time that Lanez posed a danger to society and previously defied court orders not to come within 100 yards of Megan (Lanez was previously arrested in April for violating court orders by addressing Megan directly on social media and disclosing DNA evidence via a third-party Twitter user).

The "Luv" singer's house arrest was terminated earlier this month in order for him to prepare for trial, according to Rolling Stone.

Since identifying Lanez as her alleged shooter in August 2020, Megan has been forced to face critics who support Lanez, and in June, said she felt as though she had become "the villain" in the situation.

She told Rolling Stone in June that she hopes to see Lanez behind bars, and that the incident has scarred her. She also said she underwent surgery the night of the shooting, and spent approximately four days in a California hospital to treat wounds she initially told police and doctors were the result of accidentally stepping on glass.

The star said she also had to turn to physical therapy to learn how to walk again.
