One of the biggest challenges I hear about in the #militarytransition is translating relevant skills. When you add in a complete career change like this week’s guest JONATHAN M. FISHER, who is pivoting from aircraft maintenance to IT, it is even more important and challenging to showcase your transferable skills.
Listen in to this clip where I talk about one strategy that I recommend to start the translation process. To hear my other recommended methods you’ll have to listen to the full episode using the link in the comments!
This is another great Military Transition Q&A session, where Jon asks me questions about the transition. We cover other subjects like:
🚀 How to avoid transition burnout when you start the process 2 years out.
🚀 How to figure out what and how often to post on LinkedIn.
🚀 Treating your pursuit of SkillBridge opportunities like a job search.
🚀 How and when to take advantage of Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) like VETS2INDUSTRY, HireMilitary, The K.E.Y and 50strong
Episode 42 with Chris Dreisbach
Our very first repeat guest! Chris Dreisbach is back to share an update. You may remember Chris from Episode 25: Finding Out Your Dream Job is a Nightmare.
Chris was one of those common #veteran statistics who left his first job out of the military in the first year. In fact, he only lasted 3 months before he resigned! His earlier episode continues to be one of our most downloaded episodes.
Maybe it is his straightforward, no BS approach to telling it like it really is. However, I just think he has some really great insight and advice to share. In both episodes he talks candidly about the job search process and how the #militarytransition isn’t a single destination, but a long-term journey.
Chris is back in this episode to update us on what happened after he quit his job and how he took control of his job search. He slowed down, figured out what he REALLY wanted to do with his career, set clear parameters and had the patience to land a job that truly fits who he is and where he wants to go.
I predict that this episode, which packs just as much value as the earlier episode, will quickly take over as our most popular episode.
Take a listen at the link in the comments and tell me, why do you think Chris is such a popular podcast guest?
Resilience is defined as the ability to adapt to difficult situations, misfortune or strain. It is the capacity to recover quickly from adversity or the ability to bounce back after strain or stress.
So what is a Resilience-Building Leader? This someone who builds cohesion in their team, someone who provides purpose among their employees and who gains the trust of peers, employees and leaders.
I have been hearing about the @Resilience-Building Leader Program and the Resilience-Building Leadership Professional (RBLP) certification for quite a while. In fact, you might recognize my guest Mark Holman, RBLP-T, from Episode 28.
Well, not only has Mark returned, but we are also joined by Marina Rabinek RBLP-T a US Navy veteran who is an RBLP Academic Advisor, to take a deep dive into this certification.
Mark and Marina tell us what the program is all about, how its structured and how both active duty service members and those who are separated can have the certification program paid for. We discuss how this program can make you more marketable to your potential employers. It will not only make you a better leader, but also help hone your ability to communicate the benefits you can bring a potential employer.
