Thanks to all who tuned in last night to Deep Mix: Music & More with DJ Amjad for part 4 of the Music That Deeply Touched Me series. If you missed the program or want to hear it again, it is now archived on MixCloud using the below link. You may have noticed that I changed the format somewhat from 6 half hour to 3 one hour sets. The other major change was mixing all the tracks to flow seamlessly within each set which expands the opportunities for me to be more creative. This change no longer allows the individual metadata of each track to be read in order to post the photo of album and text for song title when each song plays as they are no longer separate tracks technically speaking. I still give detailed information on what I played after each set and the track list is published below as well as on MixCloud. Tune in next Saturday at 8 pm for part 5 of the series. https://www.mixcloud.com/Deep_Mix_Music_and_More/music-that-deeply-touched-me-pt-4-aired-2024-08-17-episode-226-wakt-1061-fm/

Tune in tonight at 8 pm Eastern to Deep Mix: Music & More with DJ Amjad for the "Music That Deeply Touched Me" pt. 4. Moving into the 1980's I found myself moving completely away from commercial radio as I began to delve further into the fringes of new sounds emerging that encapsulated the darker times the world was entering. With the dominance of multi-national corporations and privatization saturating the trends which lead to the Me Generation spearheaded by political 'leaders' like Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, Rock music had become corporate and Punk Rock became a parody of itself for the most part, losing it's anti-establishment essence as it became co-opted into a fashion trend. Real music moved further underground and the beginning of the Independent Label movement began to rear its head.

So this Saturday Aug. 17 at 8 pm Eastern you will hear music from Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Bauhaus, Stomu Yamash'ta's Go, XTC, The Specials, Japanese band Melon, Romeo Void, Bad Brains, Dissidenten, Public Enemy, Barry Adamson, Weekend, The Triffids, King Crimson, Wire, Tuxedomoon, Jon Hassell, The Legendary Pink Dots, Coil, Linton Kwesi Johnson, The Fibonaccis and much more. All on WAKT We Act Radio 106.1 Toledo FM, streaming at ToledoRadio.org or via the WAKT 106.1 mobile app. JOIN ME AND GET DEEP.

A sneak preview for tomorrow's Deep Mix: Music & More with DJ Amjad radio program. The "Music That Deeply Touched Me" series continues with pt. 4. Moving into the 1980's I found myself moving completely away from commercial radio as I began to delve further into the fringes of new sounds emerging that encapsulated the darker times the world was entering with the dominance of multi-national corporations and privatization saturating the trends which lead to the Me Generation spearheaded by political 'leaders' like Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. Rock had become corporate and Punk Rock became a parody of itself for the most part, losing it's anti-establishment essence as it became co-opted into a fashion trend. Music moved further underground and the beginning of the Independent Label movement began to rear its head. I was also getting more and more into Jazz but a future part of this series will be dedicated to that.

So this Saturday Aug. 17 at 8 pm Eastern you will hear music from Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Bauhaus, Stomu Yamash'ta's Go, XTC, The Specials, Japanese band Melon, Romeo Void, Bad Brains, Dissidenten, Barry Adamson, Weekend, The Triffids, King Crimson, Wire, Tuxedomoon, Jon Hassell, The Legendary Pink Dots, Coil, Linton Kwesi Johnson, The Fibonaccis and much more. Tune in to Deep Mix: Music & More with DJ Amjad at 8pm today for part 2 of the 5 part series "Music That Touched Me Deeply" as I look back to over 56 years of my favorite music. This week's episode continues where last week's episode left off in the late 60's and moves into the early 70's when my exploration into popular music began to really blossom. I was still listening to radio which had not become so homogenized yet but I was just beginning to also explore deeper into non-commercial music and Jazz.

Tonight you'll hear the music of Richard and Linda Thompson, Al Green, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, NICO, Timmy Thomas, Booker T & The MGs, Freddie King, *professor longhair*, Syd Barrett, Fats Domino, The Kinks, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Doors, Roxy Music, The Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan, Average White Band, Robin Trower, ZZ Top, Alice Cooper, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, The Jacksons 5, Dr. John, Sam Cooke, Elton John and many more. I’m putting together songs for producing an episode of this Saturday’s Deep Mix: Music & More with DJ Amjad that reflect the dark times we are in globally and domestically. By we, I mean all life on this planet. I’m looking for suggestions. Songs that explore & reflect the mindset of how we face, run away from, ignore or deny the existential challenges facing us more than songs about single issues. Please make suggestions in the comments. Thanks

Thanks to all who tuned in last night to Deep Mix: Music & More with DJ Amjad episode #220. If you missed the show it is now archived on MixCloud using the link below. The theme was Amjad's Picks and represents the music of artists that have been on the stereo at home and in the car for the past week. Quite eclectic but no less moving or grooving. Music for the mind, body & soul. Hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think. Coming up tomorrow, Saturday June 29, 2024 at 8 PM Eastern on Deep Mix: Music & More with DJ Amjad will be a brand new episode #220. I've hand picked some of the fine music that's been haunting my stereo at home and on the road. My picks for this week begin with some moving acoustic folk from the heartfelt intense voices of women of the world passing the baton to dark stratosphere roots rhythms of ocean island sun, then stepping into urban angst fire for literary angular chords and savoir fair. You'll need to take a deep breath quick because right after, it will rain global funk dance hip hop punk jazz. Then ending the show with more folk country blues from starry skies illuminating the breathing forest. You'll have to tune in to WAKT We Act Radio 106.1 Toledo FM and stream from ToledoRadio.org to find who will be on the playlist. But a small taste of the new releases you'll hear will be from Richard Thompson, Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils, Lhasa De Sela, Linda Thompson and Rhiannon Giddens. Lots more for you to hear if you JOIN ME AND GET DEEP.

LA Swyers could appear in Rolling Stone, win $10,000, and perform at Rolling Stone's Future of Music Showcase.

Please vote for Laurie. As one of Toledo’s musical treasures, she deserves this.
