Here is an excerpt from Tinubu's Democracy Day speech:

"Today, we celebrate 22 years of unbroken democratic rule in Nigeria. Itis a day to reflect on how far we have come as a nation and the challenges that lie ahead. Our democracy has faced significant challenges since its inception, but it has also shown remarkable resilience.

As we celebrate this day, we must also remember thesacrifices made by the heroes and heroines of our democracy, who risked their lives and liberty for the sake of our freedom. We also remember those who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy.

The theme for this year's Democracy Day is "Nigeria Unity and Progress". As a nation, we must strive towards unity and progress. We must recognise that our diversity is our strength, and we must embrace it. We must also acknowledge that there are still issues that threaten our unity as a nation.

In recent times, we have witnessed heightened tensions and insecurity in different parts of the country. As true democrats, we must come together and work towards finding lasting solutions to these challenges. We must also encourage our leaders at all levels to embrace dialogue, empathy, and inclusiveness in their policies and actions.

As we look to the future, our economy must remain a top priority. Our nation has huge potentials, and we must harness and utilise these potentials effectively to create jobs, reduce poverty and improve the standard of living of our people. We must also continue to invest in critical sectors such as agriculture, technology, healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure.

Finally, we must uphold the principles of democracy and the rule of law. We must ensure that our institutions are strong, efficient, and effective in delivering justice and equity to all Nigerians. We must also recognise that democracy is a journey, not a destination. As we move forward, we must remain committed to the ideals of democracy and the unity and progress of our nation."
