Day 3 of Drydock | Small gestures matter
Once again the hectic day started with hustle. Yard guys kept coming whenever they needed something. Morning we have toolbox meeting at 0800. Then ship top officers have morning meeting at 0830 to 0930.
Yard people work hours is so different than ours, they work from 0830 to 1130 then 1400 to 1730. I like the way they plan everything. You get to see how such things work all together with so many people whose life depends on this.
Just a work of 6 hours for officers with not bad but good salary. For workers they sometimes change or do shift, and sometimes officers too have to do overtime, but rarely at all.
Pic 1 and 4 - A man of fathers age came and started cotrrecting my helmet. I left him free, though we couldn’t understand each other. I liked the sweet gesture of him. This normally happens in our home too, when our parents correct our caps or shirt buttons etc.
Pic 2 and 3- Me who escaped to walk to land. My friend from china invited me to visit his flat, before! went thrugh dinner at Chinese western restaurant
Pic 5- A section of pipe has been disconnected. It is a connection removed from LT system before cooler. Valve has to be replaced. As it is a big valve, it requires manforce and also becomes big job specialt when we have to look for our safety in managing heavy objects
Pic 6- Central cooler being cleaned. Also such jobs are done when we have ample amount of time.
It’s a big cooler compared to any LPG ships.
Pic 7- Condition of bottom deck of engine room of a ship during drydock
Pic 8- Air bottles have been cleaned and painted. We use special paint coat inside air bottles, if anyone can comment what we call this one.
Pic 9, 10- Chief cook made samosa other dishes.
