⚠️ SE IA, NE MO, W IL TODAY 4-8 PM—

Severe storms are likely today across portions of southeastern Iowa into northeastern Missouri and western/northwestern Illinois along a cold front as it slowly sags south. Any storms that develops in the circled region below will have the capacity to produce large to very large hail, and destructive wind gusts up to 90 mph. Conditionally, there is also the risk for a couple of tornadoes.

Seek shelter in Wright and Cromwell, MN. Tornado appears to be in progress via velocity scans.

⚠️ SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK EXPECTED TODAY—

Extreme southeast MN, southwest WI, western and northwestern IL, most of Iowa (excluding the northwest portion), and northern MO. These areas will be primed today for a widespread severe weather event. Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds (up to 90 mph), large hail (up to baseball sized), and tornadoes (some EF-2+ long tracked possible), will be likely today across the area highlighted in yellow or red on the map below. If you know anyone in these areas they need to be extremely weather aware today and prepared for a potential worst case scenario.

3CAPE/VORT bullseye over northern Illinois into southeastern Wisconsin today could be a focus for a few tornadoes. SPC has upgraded this area to a 5% tornado risk in the wake of a morning MCV (mesoscale convective vortex) which has clearly enhanced surface vorticity in the region. Interesting setup to watch. Don’t be caught off gaurd up here!
