This June will mark 25 years since the last Miss Budweiser was built. I ran across this footage today on YouTube (not my video) and it took me down a nostalgic road.

This boat is still racing today, without the Budweiser logos. It is hard to believe this was 25 years ago. I was there that day and I recognize many faces in the crowd.

This is one thing I miss with the sport, the spring and mid season test sessions out at Lake Washington. As a kid I would always beg my father to let me skip school and go to the test sessions with him to take pictures and soak in the hydroplane social occasion. It was a great time to catch up with friends, see a hydroplane run across Lake Washington and witness any cool things teams were trying out. It has been years since a hydroplane team has tested in Seattle (I think Oberto was the last back in 2019 if I am not mistaken) and even longer since this was a "normal occurrence".

The Museum usually puts a test session on in the spring and H1 has a Spring Training Event in Tri-Cities (don't get me wrong, these are both great things), but I also miss the random team going down to Lake Washington. There was just something about a short car ride and missing school or work to see a hydroplane on Lake Washington. There would always be news coverage and air time for the team and sponsors on the local news. I always thought it was a good way to get the word out on the sponsor as well as the sport in general. Interesting to reflect back on how the sport has changed over the years.
