It’s our (everyone’s?) favorite recovering nihilist’s birthday!! is a man of many hats… a multi-instrumentalist, photographer, top-tier friend, woodsman, long distance road-tripper, caffeine extremist, boat captain, and of course the best damn sound man in the Bay. He also WEARS a lot of great hats, as evidenced here (the answer is yes, yes we do). WE LOVE YOU LOVETT 💘💘

Go find him (& hug him) out on the road for the next few weeks working his magic behind the board with the incredible during their west coast tour (in support of their excellent new album!!) 👽

The Season of the Witch is upon us!! 🕸️ very excited to return to for our favorite season of the year, this time with a couple crates of records & some more friends on the bill! Join us next Sunday (Oct 27th!) in the naturally spooky little town of Port Costa for an all day party 💅🏼 We’ll be playing vinyl with 🦇 and will be warming up the place for the incredible & band, followed by the dusty crusty musty song association, a new season-specific project from the collaborative brain trust of .woman & 👻 DJs will kick off at 2️⃣ and live music at 5️⃣

The days will be shorter and veil will be thinner, so your ancestors are invited too. There will be a community altar set up for pictures and other offerings 🕯️🥮

THATS NOT ALL!! The party starts at 1pm with a local vendor market featuring so many friends… .gold.vintage & more 👗👢🐈‍⬛ and BVR will be serving up food & drink specials from all day🍹check out the link in the comments to learn more and RSVP! The incredible aka was born today 🥳🥳 here she is doing all of her favorite things… hot tubbing, rocking the mic, supervising tug of war, and being the most fun, most outrageous mom 💅🏼 thank you Kate for bringing so much love & laughter into our lives!! Can’t wait to make more memories with you this year, and if we’re lucky… get you back into the studio! 🎙️ love you to the ends 🌍

Libra season is a big one at Long Road Society and today we celebrate the one n only .murphy.music 💐 💐!! He’s the one holding down the groove in the studio, on stage, behind the turntables, and just in life in general 🎸 the wheels would have fallen off on this whole operation if he weren’t on the team! We love you Pat, thanks for riding with us so tough.

We’re very excited to announce the coming of No Man Is An Island 2, the new book from the prolific researcher, record digger, writer, and LRS co-founder 🔊 Pre-orders are now officially open for Mo’s 2nd record collector’s guide to the mighty Studio One label, which serves as a unique resource for those on a journey to find the best quality pressings of critical Studio One tracks. The book provides critical insight for collectors, as well as plenty of information on the musicians, engineers, & producers who made Studio One an inimitable powerhouse of Jamaican music.

Based on the response to No Man Is An Island 1 (we printed it 3 times & it sold out every time!), we recommend that you get your pre-orders in if you want it on your shelf (🔗 in comments)! This book is directly influenced by my time spent traveling the world after the release of No Man Is An Island 1, playing Studio One records and meeting incredible people with a shared love and respect for Jamaican music and culture. Spending almost a year straight DJing and talking about Studio One music was unreal, and in many ways that time fueled my fire to continue this project and release a second book. It was also super inspiring to be able to gather community feedback and improve this book upon it, resulting in what I feel is a more research and detail heavy book.

As global wars rage on, the idea that No Man Is An Island is even more important than it was a few years ago by a long shot. Fascism continues to knock ever louder on our door and sharing knowledge and taking collective action to release art and music has become even more pivotal. Jamaican music has always been a light during dark times for me, and I hope this project continues to foster creativity, inspiration, and most importantly, community.

Hyped to help curate this incredible bill with long time friend & fellow rabble rouser .vogel 🤘three very singular acts on one bill at (in Crockett!), one of the many hidden diamonds along the Carquinez strait 💦 THIS SUNDAY starting at 5pm, the sweet sounds of followed by the ripping instrumental surf of followed by the full tilt rock storm of 🥵 *note* this show will start in familiar territory for LRS show goers but then gradually turn up into a frenzy of drums & electric guitars that would make our rock ancestors proud. Come ready for the full experience ❤️‍🔥

It makes a whole lotta sense that “Heart of Gold” was one of the first songs this lady ever learned on the harmonica, because that’s mostly what she’s made of!! ♥️👑 happy happy birthday to .leigh.smith aka Blondie aka everybody’s favorite far-out, high-flyin, harp-playin sweetheart. So glad to have the right occasion to spotlight this perfect picture of her (thank you 📸!), entirely in her element: fresh cowboy hat, snazzy show shirt, happily taking care of her people with a modelo in hand. 🍪 If you haven’t earned imaginary points for eating one her famous homemade cookies, you don’t know what you’re missing. (This was also right after she stormed the stage in sequins and brought down the house at the release show… she truly does it all) WE LOVE YOU TO THE ENDS BLONDIE!! Thanks for riding with us from the very beginning 🫶

🎶 August vinyl series announcement!! 🎶 We’re honored to have been asked by to curate every Wednesday in August at their beautiful hi-fi lounge in downtown Oakland! Long Road Society artists (and soon-to-be LRS artists 😉) are on the decks from 8-11pm in this beautiful listening room, playing full length (or at least full sides of) records that inspire them. It’s free to hang and listen… and there’s also delicious drinks at the bar!!🍸 stacked summer takeover lineup below…

Radio heat has been out for ✨3 months✨ and to celebrate here’s an extra cheesy picture of me & the night we opened the record and heard the needle drop for the first time (obviously can’t really contain our enthusiasm ☺️). Thank you to everyone who has listened, shared, reviewed, and loved this record - we’re so grateful that it’s out there and getting its flowers 💐 The vinyl is selling FAST so get your orders in while we contemplate a 2nd pressing!!

So much gratitude to the team who helped guide this beauty into being, especially co-producer/conspirator 👽, allll the incredible musicians who played on it, recording engineers & 🎛️, and of course our incredible label partner 🫶

There’s a new recording studio in Crockett and we’re celebrating this Sunday with a grand opening party!! studios is the work of this man 👆 who’d really love to be behind the board but instead has spent the last year with power tools turning this historic Crockett building into a beautiful recording studio. Once the Clayton Bailey museum, the space has a local weirdo art history and we’re pretty sure this is just the start of a new chapter…. So join us this Sunday for an afternoon of music, art, pizza, and 🍻 featuring sets from and 🎸 art from .tits & 🧶 & food from Buffalo Bills alleyway pizza 🍕 starts at 3pm, get there early for the free stuff!! 325 Rolph Ave in Crockett 🎉
