It’s that time of year again where this audio and video editor gets to report that I’ve made the “risky” updates to the latest macOS (15.0.1) and so far everything is working better with no crashes - knock on wood.

What about you? Have you already updated or are you waiting until 3rd party apps are “officially supported?”

The main improvement for me so far is that my audio outputs now continue to work in all my editing apps (Logic Pro, RX 10, Davinci Resolve, etc.) after my computer sleeps. Prior to the update, I had to quit and relaunch any apps using my audio interfaces to get sound after waking up my system.

It’s 9am on a Sunday and this morning I’ve already finished my laundry, cleaned 2 toilets, and am almost done running hidden wires for custom undercabinet lights in our kitchen that I started yesterday.

What’s wrong with me?! I’m your typical procrastinator who prefers to make excuses while sitting on the couch looking at my phone…

I do know momentum matters and I’m going to take advantage of this energy today! Finishing swapping out light switches upstairs is next! 😅

Windscreens and pop filters help. But the best way to prevent explosive air bursts from your consonants on your recordings is to improve your mic technique:

1) Angle the mic below and/or to the side of your mouth so the air moves past and not directly into your mic. 📐

2) Minimize air you expel when speaking. 🗣 Be efficient with your breath energy!

Progress update on my portable workstation build: I’ve figured out locations for mounting all the electronics underneath and now need to manufacture the mounting pieces out of scrap plywood. I’ll tackle it in the morning since it’s late for miter saw and router noise 🤫

My new portable + is almost complete! Everything is connected and working - I just need to mount the dock, splitter, and bricks underneath. It’s crazy how my whole complex is now connected through one single cable!

The wood frame, rockwool, and fabric acoustic panels I made make a huge difference above my podcasting workstation both for recording and for mixing. I was able to develop a new way of mounting them that allows for vertical adjustment and looks better than chains or brackets.

I finally moved my ceiling acoustic panels over my new mix position. I figured out a cool way to hand them off the ceiling further than I had them before using L brackets, 5” long bolts, and Snaptoggle drywall anchors. I had to re-tune my speaker settings so now I’m enjoying some Sigrid. 🤘 I’ll post a video about the installation process tomorrow.

Follow-up to yesterday’s video answering a good question by .meku. You can add compression and EQ effects before the recording in your Rodecaster Pro. Just be careful not too add too much since you can’t remove compression later. I like to add multiple layers of compression and EQ in post-production so I can really fine tune the mix before exporting as an MP3.

If you’re needing a quick affordable solution to cut down on room reverberation, I like these felt panels that I’ve put in my son’s office. Much better looking and more durable than the cheap foam wedge option. I used 3M picture hangers since tape doesn’t hold.
