From sand to sun, all things are moving;
hence, my departure is bewildering.
You are struggling on a tightrope,
don’t hold me—there’s just no hope.

My sky is so dark and not clear,
if I were a star, my supernovae would be near.
I no longer shine like how I used to,
yet my vision is crystal, I am not blue.

Time waits for no one, it’s a friend of none.
Every single second is a chance for one.
Don’t cry for me, this is not goodbye
Do smile for me, watch me as I fly.

Your words are a cure to my core,
your applause made me roar.

I used to love sunsets, staring at the tangerine horizon
'til you walked in and gave it a deeper definition.
Never did I imagine this would end so fast—
I thought you and I would really last.

I’m mature enough; I know break-ups will always be there,
But ours was promising; our love was in the air.
It was fun anyway—I enjoyed my joyrides with you;
You brought out the best in me; you didn’t make me blue.

From this day onward, I will look at the sunset a little differently;
It will be my confidant when I need to vent.
You know what? It won't be the same without you,
But I have to—I have to let you go, my boo.

If I were to be reincarnated, I would choose you once more,
And I would make sure the universe would be in our favor.

𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗬 | “𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹”

In the shadowed corners of her soul’s keep,
A tale resides, unspoken, buried deep.
Whispers of chances, like rustling leaves,
Drift past her fingers, elusive as dreams.

Indeed, she was a blessed butterfly,
With wings that shone, yet hesitated to fly,
Staring up at her fellow ones who journeyed high,
While she remained, with nothing but a nightingale’s sigh.

She was tall enough, sure,
Strong enough to endure.
With qualities akin to those of a warrior,
These alone were armor enough.

But just as she was about to open the door,
An unwelcome visitor knocked once more.
Without permission, it proceeded,
She couldn’t escape, her vision blurred with breathless pleas.
Struggling to undo its strong grip,
Before she realized it, all the fierce, tranquil fights,
The last strand of light, were now ashes, flying away—
She helplessly watched them, crying.

Without meaning to, she feebly admits,
Perhaps, after all, this was defeat.
And what was meant to be just a visit,
Now stands as art in her soul's exhibit.

With each passing day,
As mornings offer their beautiful rays,
Yet all chances keep slipping away.
For in times of upheaval,
Hope arises in sync with the rising sun.
But for such a long while,
It dwelt on her mind’s archived shelf—only a plan.

And like a magnet’s trick,
Whenever she resolved, setting a single footfall,
In a mere flick,
She was pulled back into the arms of forlorn.

All those halted urges,
The held soft breaths,
The sundered voices,
The countless burnt attempts—
She got lost in the vast depths of the ocean, nonetheless.

Up to this day, as hard as it is to conceal,
Fear and doubt still dress her, still.

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) marked its 12th Pinning Ceremony on October 30, 2024, under the theme “Shaping Young Minds, Securing the Future, Living the Teaching Profession,” held in the BaSC Gymnasium. The event honored the dedication and commitment of future educators, celebrating their readiness to embark on their teaching journey.

The pinnacle of the ceremony was the pinning of BaSC pre-service teachers, symbolizing their preparedness and commitment to the teaching profession.

I was once a child,
Who wished to be happy,
Who wished to live in blissful ignorance.
Yet, where did it go?

Hope…
Life and dreams—
Where do they come from?
And where do they go?

I’ve seen a photo, me so blissfully alive.
Where did that smile, now cease to thrive?
Joy once filled my heart, so bright and wide,
But now it’s gone. Where do I reside?

My childhood was surely a bliss.
What happened to those days when I was sane?
What have I become?
An expression of emptiness.

Life was more blissful back in the day.
Where did it go?
Will those days return, or have they flown too fast?
Or will they be just a memory of the past?

For one, I sought those days.
For two, I can no longer take.
For three, I regret.
And lastly, your life has changed and you can no longer go back to those days.

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) at Basilan State College (BaSC) conducted an orientation on October 30, 2024, to prepare its pre-service teachers for field study and practice teaching. Centered on the theme, “Empowering Future Educators: Bridging Theory and Practice for Lifelong Impact,” the program aimed to equip aspiring educators with essential knowledge and skills for effective teaching in real-world classroom settings.

Key attendees included CTE Dean, Dr. Eva M. Machutes; representing College President, Dr. Haipa Abdurahim-Salain, Atty. Gadzmin I. Salisa; BaSC Laboratory High School Principal, Dr. Marites P. Agang; BSEd Program Chairperson, Ms. Sheena O. Santos; BEEd Program Chairperson, Ms. Jacel T. Macario; BECEd Program Chairperson, Mr. Michael V. Balais, and CTE faculty. Meanwhile, from the Department of Education (DepEd) Isabela City Schools Division, Ms. Ilyn B. Paraman, Senior Education Program Specialist (SEPS) SMM&E; and Dr. Jay S. Montealto, JD, CESO VI, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, Officer In-Charge, Office of Superintendent. Moreover, distinguished speakers included Dr. Elsa Usman, EPS-I, LRMPS; Dr. Sar-Ana M. On October 29, 2024, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) hosted an Acquaintance Party to strengthen bonds among faculty, staff, and students, which took place in the BaSC Gymnasium. This event provided a platform for building camaraderie and forging new friendships.

College Dean, Dr. Eva M. Machutes led the gathering, joined by BSEd Chairperson, Ms. Sheena O. Santos; BEEd Chairperson, Ms. Jacel T. Macario; and BECEd Chairperson, Mr. Michael V. Balais. CTE faculty, staff, and students also shone in the event. All attendees dressed in casual attire and walked the red carpet, which set the tone for a vibrant and inclusive celebration.

In addition, the party featured performances by students and faculty, showcasing the diverse talents of the CTE community. The day was a shared celebration of unity, creativity, and CTE pride.

The College of Allied Health (CAH) graced its 10th Capping, Badging, and Candlelighting Ceremony on October 28, 2024. The theme, “Illuminating the Path to a Resilient and Compassionate Nursing Future,” highlighted the college’s commitment to cultivating skilled and compassionate nursing professionals.

A total of 289 second year nursing students were honored during the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in their training. Furthermore, distinguished attendees included Dr. Haipa Abdurahim-Salain, College President; Dr. Nasser A. Salain, Al-Haj, Board Member of District 1 of Basilan and BaSC Alumni President; Mr. Angelo C. Cawasa, MAN, RN, CDNE, CHA, DipHLM, FPCHA, Assistant Chief Nurse of Zamboanga City Medical Center and Guest Speaker; Dr. Sheila U. Alonzo, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Ms. Leticia M. Babas, RN, MN, College Dean. The CAH faculty also attended the event.

The ceremony embodied a blend of tradition and aspiration as BaSC continues to uphold its mission of nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders.

𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝗦𝗖’𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗜𝗜 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) at Basilan State College (BaSC) recently welcomed a team from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for an assessment of its teacher education programs. The visit, part of the Enhancing Quality and Advancing Teacher Education (EQUATE II) initiative, took place on October 28, 2024, in the BaSC Old Conference Room. CHED’s evaluation aimed to ensure quality and adherence to educational standards in the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) programs.

Notable attendees included Dr. Haipa Abdurahim-Salain, BaSC College President; Dr. Sheila U. Alonzo, Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Eva M. Machutes, College Dean. The CTE program chairpersons and faculty were also present. The Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) from CHED IX was led by Dr. Joe-an G. Cuaresma, MATCP, who oversaw the evaluation process. Joining Dr. Cuaresma were Dr. Evelyn N. Chavez and Dr. Ricardo Somblingo. Moreover, the visit featured a comprehensive review through document analysis, followed by a formal presentation of findings and recommendations.

This evaluation underscores BaSC’s commitment to producing highly qualified and board-certified educators capable of making meaningful contributions to their communities.

𝗕𝗮𝗦𝗖 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

338 student interns of Bachelor of Science in Social Work were proclaimed ready to work with partner agencies, on October 25, 2024, at the BaSC Amphitheatre. The Send-off Ceremony and Orientation, centered on the theme, “Unleashing the Power of Social Work: A Celebration of Hope and Action,” with the aim to inspire student interns as they prepared to begin their public service journeys.

Dr. Nasser A. Salain, Al-Haj, Board Member of District 1 of Basilan and BaSC Alumni President, graced the event as the guest speaker. He was joined by Dr. Sheila U. Alonzo, Vice-President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Benigno A. Garil, Dean of the College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Communication; Dr. Heidi Faith H. Cruz, Program Chairperson of the Social Work Department; and heads of various partner offices supporting the deployment program.

As the event concluded, it symbolized a new beginning for these interns, a step toward making meaningful contributions to society with their services.
