Raspberries are now ripened across all counties in the UP. There’s still some ripening to go in some berry patches but you should be able to pick a few cups easily in a half hour.

Berry pickers who sell can expect lower prices ($13-$17/lb) on their hauls this season due to the bountiful berry patches this season and also due to jam makers having hundreds of pounds of berries in reserve from last year. Expect Thimbleberry jam pricing to be around d $20-$24 for 8oz jar.

Yum! Thimbleberries have started ripening.A few of my go to patches in Baraga county had a handful ripened up. Most places should start ripening in 4-8 days.
Today will be a controlled fire by USFS in the U.S. Forest Service - Hiawatha National Forest north of Indian Lake and south of 94.
Stay clear of area while the prescribed burn takes place. You’re likely to see smoke in the areas close by so that’s what it will be from.
If conditions allow, the Upper Peninsula Fire Management Unit will be conducting a 164-acre prescribed burn today in Schoolcraft County. Smoke will likely be visible from M-94. For your safety and that of the firefighters, please take care while driving and stay clear of those areas while prescribed burns are taking place.

Thimbleberry flowers started appearing a couple weeks ago, another 21-27 days we should see our first ripe berries.
Spotted this Moose hanging out on 141 north of Amasa yesterday during the rain and drizzle.
Come stand on a porcupines back in The Porkies for an amazing view. The natives thought the view of the mountains silhouette looked much like the back of a porcupine hence the name Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park - the Porkies
