As a science fiction literary subgenre and art movement, Solarpunk works to address how the future might look if humanity succeeded in solving major contemporary challenges with an emphasis on sustainability, human impact on the environment, and addressing climate change and pollution. Especially as a subgenre, it is aligned with cyberpunk derivatives, and may borrow elements from utopian and fantasy genres.”
The "solar" represents solar energy as a renewable energy source and an optimistic vision of the future that rejects climate doomerism, while the "punk" refers to do it yourself and the countercultural, post-capitalist, and decolonial aspects of creating such a future. BIO
JP Silver has 20 years professional experience as a professional DJ, playing an array of genres to a varied audience all over South Africa and in Scotland. In 2015 he moved into producing with his first release "Skeletons" ft Martin Rocka, an Electro-Rockabilly track. "Skeletons" spent several months on the Wild Coast FM SA Top 20 charts, peaking at Number 1 on 7 May 2016, maintaining the top spot for 3 consecutive weeks. In 2019, Silver released "Open Doors" with his duo Beats & Brass, a track with a Deep House / Commercial House flavour, featuring Connie Bentlage on Saxophone.
2024 saw the release of his debut EP "Technology x Nature", a 4-track electronic music concept album with a Solar Punk aesthetic, followed up with the single "Dark Smiles" in February 2025. Silver is currently working on several collaborations with different vocalists, while also working on a few more solo tracks due for release later this year.
