We are very sad to hear about the passing of Coolio
He was 39 in our 50th anniversary celebrating All-Time Top 500 Chart. COOLIO feat. LV “GANGSTA’S PARADISE” OCTOBER 1995.
Coolio had been making some noise for a good couple of years and he’d already had a big hit record in the States with “Fantastic Voyage” before “Gangsta’s Paradise” came along to blow anything else he did before or after out of the water.

The rapper literally was straight outta Compton but in due course, he certainly didn’t live the thugz life and is equally well known for his cookery skills and being a TV personality as for his music.

“Gansta’s Paradise” was no ordinary Rap record and it went on to win a Grammy. One of the most successful Hip Hop records of all time, it reached #1 in the US, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand, selling around six million copies in the process!

Borrowing the chorus and instrumentation from Stevie Wonder’s “Pastime Paradise” which was featured on the classic 1976 album “Songs From The Key Of Life”.
Our thoughts are with Coolio’s family, friends and fans during this very difficult time. Gone but not forgotten 💔
