I cry every time someone says they have to give up their pet.

This is the worst I have ever seen the state of domestic and even agricultural animals since I got into dog care at 18 years old.
Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed, understaffed, underfunded, and overworked.
While, sometimes, a dog, cat, horse, pig, etc needs to find a new home due to unforseen circumstances, your failure to plan and make appropriate accommodations to keep your pet with you is not one of them. Neither is the length of your work day, having a child, adding a new pet, going on vacation, kids are bored, or any other of the million woefully lame excuses heard day in and day out.
Having an animal in your life is not a right, it is a responsibility...for the life of the pet. Stop giving them up, stop breeding, spay and neuter. Animals are suffering and dying needlessly.
And, if you are thinking you have to give up a pet due to a behavior concern, contact me. I will help over the phone, zoom, or in person. Don't let $ be the excuse you don't call. We can work that out. Keeping families together is the most important thing!!
