Well new week of CFL football means no power rankings!

And there are some BIG changes!

1. B.C Lions

BC is IMO right now is the best team in the CFL. Big play VA along side his talented receiving core seems to be unstoppable. Throwing over 300 yds a a game is now expecting of this team.

And there running game with standback is doing its job. D also looks pretty solid. So far the injury bug his bitten them but has not killed them. This team dose need star power to win so let’s hope they stay healthy

2. Saskatchewan Roughriders

Yes they lost, but they lost to the BC lions without there starting QB. Patterson looked pretty good tho for the most part. There D struggled at times but again considered it was BCs O. Not the worst showing

This team I still feel can be a top 3 team for sure. They need to get that running game going more however. At times it has shown promise but it’s time to pound the ball and run.

3. Montreal Alouettes

They finally lost a game. Yes they had injuries to key players but every team does. There D struggled to contain Torontos running game.

There QB2 in Evans struggled at times to move the ball down field however we know he can win games if he needs to play for a few games.

And this teams D won’t be slacking next game around. They have the players to win without the ball. Something a lot of teams in the CFL don’t have.

Still a top 3 team in my eyes but they have looked beatable last two weeks.

4. Toronto Argos.

Whoever told people the CFL is a passing game forgot to tell the Argos. There running game is second to none in the CFL. And it’s giving young QB1 Cameron Dukes a chance to make plays. His numbers are huge but there good enough. That’s all he needs to be.

He’s making plays when he needs to. All they can ask for.

There D has looked better from week to week and I still see it improving more. Right now just shy of a top 3 team as there passing attack isn’t what it use to be without Chad Kelly. Weather you like him or hate him guy call ball.

5. Ottawa RedBlacks.

I am so impressed with this team, Dru Brown is showing he is ready to be a QB1 puttting up 480 YDS vs the elks. There team is finding ways to win. They are learning how to play winning football. They are one win away from tying last year win totals.

There D has been good enough making some big play when needed. Running game has been strong. Getting over 5YDS each carrie. Something that’s needed in CFL.

Definitely a team I could see making a Grey Cup push if they keep improving at this rate. My sleeper pick if you will.

6. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

This team to start the year looked old and tired. Now they look like they found another life or maybe a health pack in the kitchen like in GTA.

They have gone back to running the ball to open the passing game and it’s worked.

Both there D and O lines look better every week. Plus they could be getting some key players back such as a Kenny Lawler sometime next month.

I’m impressed with how they have turned things around. Changing how they play to an older style of football. Good coaching and player are buying in.

7 Calgary Stampeders

To start the year I liked this team. However a lot has changed.

Passing game is struggle. Not using running game as often. And 4th are bad for them!

A lot has to change but I think it can. They need to be better on 1st down like they were to start the year. Get 6+YDS on 1st will go a long way.

8 Hamilton Tiger Cats.

Well this team still can’t figure out how to win. The bye might have helped them but time will tell.

There D is where they need the most work. If they can fix that they are in business.

9 Edmonton Elks

How this team finds new ways to lose is beyond me. This team should be a 500 club.

They just need to finish. Make one less mistake in the final 3:00 minutes.

That is all!

Heading into week 6 of the CFL here are my Power Rankings.

1. Montreal

Not much to say. They seem to be the best of the best. Playing really strong team football. All three phases.

However the Stamps did make them look bearable for at least 30 minuets of football. They found a way to move the ball with short passes runs and RPOs. Expect more teams to try the same.

2. Saskatchewan

Was debating between 2nd and 3rd with this team. There D looks amazing this year. Making Toronto turn the ball over 5 times last week! And they are undefeated still. This is very impressive.

However life without Trevor Harris looks like it could be a struggle. Patterson did a good job last week by just doing enough. But time will tell if they can keep that going without there star QB and only a so so running game.

3 BC Lions

Big play VA is really showing what he can do when he has time in the pocket. That Oline is outstanding. His WR are making catches and the running game is getting better week by week. Truthfully I was debating on putting them at 2nd. But they do have one lose to Toronto this year.

Also they are banged up when it comes to there D. This could be an isssue down the road. Will have to wait and see.

4. Calgary

The stamps so far look decent this year. They seem to find ways to stay in games. It might not be pretty but it works.

They have been getting some much needed stops on D they just need to find more ways to punch it into the end zone or at least end drives with pts.

They could have beaten Montreal last week if they just got one more score. But all and all decent team.

5. Toronto

Ask any Argo fan going into this season if they’d be happy with a 2-2 start without there MOP QB Chad Kelly and they would have said yes. However it’s the way they lost the last two games that hurts.

Turnovers has been this teams number one issue. First two games. They protected the ball very well and didn’t force anything. Last two games you could see some forced passes from Dukes.

However so far this year I’ve seen a lot I like from him. I think he can lead this team to a playoff spot. He’s a young starting QB and will only get better as time moves on.

I’d like to see the D help him out a bit more. We saw some bad tackles last week but all and all. Considered they are down there top QB and there two top D linemen. This team can’t complain to much.

6. Ottawa

Ottawa is about where i thought they would be this year. They have a chance to win games almost every week. They fall short sometimes but all and all they look okay.

However the status of Dru Brown is known. He’s been good this year. He’s been able to not turn the ball over much and keep his team in games.

If he’s out it’s back to Dustin Crum. Who can win games as well as we saw this year. This team just has to find a way to keep games close and make a play towards the end of the game. If they can do that. We could see them jump up this list.

7 Winnipeg

Well it was ugly but they finally got a win! They basically just ran the ball all game and only passed when they had to! But Dline looked great best I’ve seen from them all year. And Oline got the job done with punishing blocks. We will see with Zach coming back this week how much they elect to pass the ball.

8 Edmonton Elks

Week off for the elks and they added a big time player in Shawn Oakman. This should help there Dline a lot! And improve there run stop! Let’s hope this pushes them over the hump and they get a much needed win

9 Hamilton

Well this team is struggling hardcore. I don’t think it’s lack of effort tho. Watching them play BC it looked like a skill gap. They did manage to claim back in the game so what but it was almost over after the first half.

BLM had another strong game IMO. Throwing for over 300 yds again! I think the issues lay in the D zone more. They need to get off the field faster and create some turnovers.

This team has a much needed bye week. For tie cats fans. Let’s hope they can figure this out and fast.

03/07/2024

Heading into week 5 of the CFL season here are my power rankings!

Would anyone like to see this turned into a video format with highlights and a voiceover? Let me know in the comments!

1. Montreal

Well Montreal is showing that right now they are the best team in the CFL. There D is making big play after big play while there O looks a lot better than expected.

Even tho the Argos managed to contain the big play effect. This team found ways to score. Running game would be my only “Red Flag” as it didn’t look good at all. 1st time all year I felt the team missed Stanback.

2. Saskatchewan

Bi week for this team but some big news regarding there top WB Trevor Harris. He is going to miss some time with a MCL issue.

So some people would rank them third. Me, I say until you lose a game you can’t go down in the power rankings.

Plus, there running game looked much better last week. Something they will need while they use there QB2

3. BC Lions

This team is now starting to get more of a pass/run balance. Something they really needed.

All 3 phases of football look good for them. I’d like to see a little more running YDS and more short smart passes with YAC yards but maybe that’s just not how this team is built. Overall they look very good and still a strong pick to win it all.

4. Ottawa Redblacks

The Ottawa Redblacks got a big win over the tiger cats last week getting a game winning field goal in the dying seconds.

This is so big for this team as this team last year would have found a way to lose. Instead they found a way to win.

Dru Brown looked good for the most part. The 3rd was rough but he found a way to bounce back and get a win. Tying them for second in the East.

5. Toronto
I really had to think hard where I wanted to put this team. The D looked the best it’s looked all year IMO.

However the O looked off. There running game still looked good. Really feel that’s how they will win games this year. However,

This team has to stretch the field. Not being scared to move the ball down field.

They have a smart coach so I don’t see him not fixing this.

6.Calgary

This team so far looks like a good middle of the pack team. The higher skills guys are doing what needs to be done. Moving the ball well and getting stops when needed.

I could see them moving up the power rankings if they string together a few wins. So far they are a win one lose win club.

But I like them. They play smart and keep games close. And as we know in the CFL. If you are within two scores by the 3 minute warning in the 4th. You have a good chance of winning.

7. Hamilton Tiger Cats.

This team seems so close. BLM looked solid passing for over 300 YDS and no picks. Running game considering James Butler was out. Also looked good.

My issue was there D. Not they were bad. But, they could have created turnovers and they didn’t. There was at least 2 if not 3 passes that should have been picked. You get one of those you win this game.

Good teams find ways to win bad teams find ways to lose. I do however think they are close to fixing this and wouldn’t be shocked if they beat BC at home to close out week 5

8. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

This was tough. Losing your QB1 still pushing it to OT but throwing a pick that costs you the game. That’s gotta hurt.

This team needs to stop playing like they did last year year. They are not the same team. They can’t just make some big passes in between running the ball and win games.

They need a new system and fast. High percentage passes RPOs and a stronger running game is what they need to do.

It looks like Lucky Whitehead is coming in to help. This should make a good difference with trying to make some big plays. I’m just not sure it’s enough.

On the bright side. There D looked great. Best they have looked all year. Main reason why they moved up to 8th instead of sitting in the basement at 9th.

9. Edmonton

This team frustrates the crap outta me. Every game it’s just a few mistakes that cost them a win and again no change. A few bad plenty’s the team takes and now they are 0-4.

This team has to change. Tbh I don’t understand why Chris Jones has his job still because it’s clearly not working out.

That’s not me saying they can’t win games. This team should be at about 2-2 I feel right now. But they’re not. 0-4!!! Again!!!

They have the bye this week. They better figure out how to stay more disciplined or they will keep losing games. Weather it’s by 10 pts or 1. Losing is losing and winning is winning.

27/06/2024

Here are my power rankings going into week 4

1. Montreal
All three aspects of football are working for this team. If they keep going like this. They are going to be hard to beat. Will be interesting to see how they fair vs the 2-0 Argos.
2.Saskatchewan

3 games 3 wins can’t complain about that! Week three was there best week. Run game looked the best it’s looked all season. They still need to focus on taking less penalties. Let’s just hope the week off we’ll give Harris the rest he needs.
3. Toronto

2-0. A start no one excepted. This team has found ways to win games. Week 3 was all about the run game. Rushing for over 100yds. Passing game did its job no picks and a few TDs. D needs some work as they struggled to stop MBT from moving the ball down field. Big test this Friday vs Montreal for this team.

4. BC
2-1 isn’t to bad for this team. Big play VA looks great although he’s getting hit a lot. Oline needs to protect him much better moving forward.

Getting the running game going should help that moving forward. As it should open up the passing game more. Plus taking reps about from VA and hopefully getting hit less.

5 Calgary

There right where I thought they’d be. 1-1 played well both games. Nice balcne between run and pass. D looks decent. A good middle of the pack team.

6 Ottawa

Week 3 was bad. The D needs to find a way to stop the big play at least sometimes or this could be a long season. But sitting at 1-1 they can’t complain to much.

Brown will get better as season moves on and this team should be fitting for a playoff spot for sure.

Would love to say Acklin get more touches asap. He’s a game breaker there just not using enough. Same with Rhymes. Let your big play players make big plays.
7 Edmonton
I almost don’t feel right ranking them 7th. MBT is moving the ball down field very well! This team can score that’s not the issue. Truthfully they should be sitting at around 2-1 imo but there not.

Run D has to get better and fast. And they need to find a way to close out games with a win.

8 Winnipeg
Well they got a little better last week losing a tight game to BC. But this team needs work. Still no passing TDs all year. Dline is not doing what it use to. Oline looks ify. This team has to change how they play the game. They are not the same team anymore. On the play side run game got going. This should help this team a lot heading into week 4.

9 Hamilton.

Well 0-3 is not what they wanted. Coming off there worst game of the season Hamilton needs work. Biggest issue is Tim White. They paid him a lot of money to make big plays and right now he’s not making them. He either needs to get going or Hamilton needs to change there game plan. They do not want to start the season 0-4.

On the bright side BLM in week 1 2 and parts of 3 looks good. He’s seem to be back to his old self. They just need to learn how to win. Think once they win one they will be rocking.

I’ll be posting my CFL power rankings Tuesday morning but just finished watching the cup final game as was working tonight on MSL lacrosse.

Wanted to say what a great game as much as I wanted Edmonton to find a way to win. This game was fun to watch!

I’ll post more thoughts in the coming days and jump into NHL free agency !

Plus some big news about my page and some new content ;)

Two big injuries for the Argos coming into week three.

Depending on how replacements do could we see the Argos looking to fill these rolls.

Lucky Whitehead and Shawn Oakman( ik argos just cut him) are both available.

Not saying it will happen but maybe some phone calls will be made.

Got my eye on the CFL season this far!

Here are my power rankings heading into week three of the CFL season.

1. Montreal Alouettes

Picking right up where they left off last year. Tyson Philpott really showing he’s the man to replace Austin Max. Plus Walter fletcher is giving this team a strong running game. The D looks outstanding once again. This really could be the team to beat this year.

2. Toronto Argonauts

Argos Dline and Oline will be what takes this team places this year. They showed that vs the BC lions. Dukes looked good however I’d like to see some more deep shots as the year goes on. The DB did get cooked a few times and will need to be a bit better moving forward. This team however looks much better than most thoughts. Really thought hard between 2nd and 3rd for the Argos. However I stuck with 2nd

3. Saskatchewan Roughriders

2-0 is 2-0. Weather the games have been pretty they are winning. Running game needs to get better and this team has to learn they need to play a full 60. But two come from behind wins is very impressive. This team however has to play smarter. Over 100 yards in flags in week to just can’t happen. Plus, many were avoidable. Only reason why there are my 3rd ranked team and not 1st or 2nd

4. BC Lions

The Lions sitting at 1-1 got a big win vs Calgary this week. There Oline needs to do a better job as VA got hit a lot once again! He’s gonna have a hard time staying healthy if that keeps up. This team should also get running game more included.

5. Calgary Stampeders

If I’m a stamps fan I’m really happy right now sitting at 1-1. The team looks good. Strong running and passing game. D at times looks solid and Jake Maier looks the best he’s ever looked there. Think this team would like the deep shots to work out more but still they look much better than last year.

6. Ottawa Redblacks

Starting the season 1-0 has to feel good for this club. There D looked great making it hard for Winnipeg to get anything going. First year starting QB Dru Brown looked good. Nothing crazy but moved the ball well and no turnovers. All this team needs from him. They look like a playoff team or at least in the running this year.

7. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Tie Cats record is confusing. Sitting at 0-2 however they are playing some good football. They could be 2-0 if some bounces went their way. Mitchell looks good. Butler had a great week one and not so great week 2. But you know he’s good. D was hit and miss but made some good plays over the last two weeks. Tim white has me worried this year tho. He’s dropping passes that would be game changers if they were completed. He’s a great WR but he’s gotta find his game and fast.

8. Edmonton Elks

The Elks are a hard team to grade. Like Hamilton they have had some good moments. MBT at times as looked great. However when it’s bad it’s really bad. They are turning the ball over way too often! Blowing big leads in back to back games. This has to clean up and fast. Get the running game more involved and use some more short to medium passes to open the deep ball. Get some longer drivers so the D is not out as often as they are very young. I still think this team is better than last year but they need to learn how to win.

9. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

I’m not even a Bombers fan and I’m in shock. They went form being the standard of the CFL to in my opinion the worst team in the league. Bad running game dropped passes and poor passing choices. This O is just bad. The D is the only thing keeping them in games and even that has been hit or miss. This team will get better. There is no doubt in my mind that this team can still be great. But right now with the injuries. It may take them a few weeks to figure it out.

Some thoughts on both the East and West.

East
Montreal is the team to beat. However 2nd is wide open as all eastern teams have shown good moments. Even with Hamilton being 0-2 could see them winning next 2 and fans will be singing a different tune.

West
With the Blue Bombers early struggles and BC losing in week 1. The west is wide open for the first time in years. It’s exciting to see who can take an early advantage and build a lead in the west. So far it’s the Roughriders. Two weeks from now it could be the Lions or maybe the Elks or the Bombers get going. It’s a fun time to watch the West.

16/06/2024

My thoughts over last two CFL matchups.

Montreal improved to 2-0 with great team football. Scoring when needed and the D making plays at the right time.

Walter Fletcher was an impact this game. Showing he’s ready to take the RB1 spot.

Edmonton falling to 0-2 hurts. This team can’t keep turning over the balls the way they are. That has to change.

Weather it’s using getting Kevin Brown more engaged or more high percentage passes. This has to get fixed.

B.C improves to 1-1.

big play VA did what he does best. He made some highlight reel plays getting the ball into the hands of some very talented players.

Still feel they need to get the running game more involved. This will help the passing game big time.

Oline needs to get much better! Adam’s was running for his life at times!

Calgary falls to 1-1

Although the stamps lost they played well. This team looks a lot better than last year.

Biggest area to clean up is the kick return game. Starting 20-30 yards down the field can help this team put on more points. This could have made this a different game.

If I was a Blue Bomber fan I’d start to be concerned.

Yes the Ottawa Redblacks played well. However, Winnipeg has to be much better!

I’ll post a week two recap and that will have more but dam. What’s Happening in Winnipeg.

CFL POWER RANKINGS by me.

Well the CFL season is back! I know this page has been very quite however I am going to try and do more sports stuff once again.

Long rant over. Here is my personal CFL Power rankings.

CFL POWER RANKINGS

1. Montreal
2. Toronto
3. Calgary
4. Saskatchewan
5. BC
6. Hamilton
7. Edmonton
8. Winnipeg

9. Ottawa ( had a bye)

Toronto Montreal
Both teams had surprising wins. Montreal ranking 1st as they controlled that game from kickoff.

Calgary Saskatchewan
Both teams won close games showing improvement from last season. Showing they are going to be hard to beat in the 2024 season

Edmonton Winnipeg BC Hamilton

All 4 teams suffered a lose this week. However Winnipeg by far looked the worst.

This team should get better however basing on week 1. There sitting towards the bottom.

Hamilton Edmonton and BC all had moements when they played well. Definitely having something to build off.

Ottawa
Sitting 9th as they didn’t play. This could change after week 2

Having been enjoying the World Jr hockey tournament until today. Not because Canada lost. That was a fair game.

But this was the game between Sweden and Switzerland was brutal. The refs need to be fired asap.

I am in a state of shock!

If Hamilton doesn’t win and BLM doesn’t play at all as it seems to be. Some big changes are going to happen in Hamilton. Starting with coaching.

Should have been an easy win!

Feel this is a no brainer. Robertson was clearly in the wrong and it was a dirty hit. Add he was not ejected from the game for said play. The one game suspension feels fair.

However, listening to Zach Collaros post game basically saying the CFL won’t do anything. Really wasn’t a good look.

Least the CFL got it right

The Jaguars have cut Canadian QB Nathan Rourke following his really impressive preseason.

Feel like he’s gotta get picked up by someone in the NFL. Think the bucs would love a second option if baker Mayfeild is a bust.

Worst case for Rourke. I could see Calgary Ottawa or Hamilton in the CFL try to bring him in. He’s a game changing QB.

Great to see Edmonton Elks Football Club win a game. Now they just need to win at home!

On the flip side

Should Hamilton Tiger-Cats look to make some more changes. This game for them was just bad! Could we see a new HC in the hammer? We will have to wait and see

15/08/2023

Since everyone seems to do this I'll join the club. Here is my CFL Power rankings as of today!

1. Toronto Argonauts Football Club
2. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
3. BC Lions
4. ALOUETTES DE MONTRÉAL
5. Ottawa REDBLACKS
6. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
7. Saskatchewan Roughriders
8. Calgary Stampeders
9. Edmonton Elks Football Club

The top three is a toss up from week to week on who is the best team. However right now, its the Argos

Alouettes and Redblacks are both playing some good football. And feel they have not hit their peak yet this year.

6-9 is just a dumpster fire. All been huge disappointments this year. And I know injuries have been a huge issue. But come on, every team has had to deal with this all year and they are finding ways to win.

Okay so you all might think I am crazy but I like to go for some underdogs

Edmonton Elks Football Club over Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Elks have to win at some point and you have to wonder if the Blue Bombers will start on time coming off a huge win over the lions

Calgary Stampeders over BC Lions

Calgary seemed to figure it out vs Toronto last week. Been saying it all year they are better than there record. BC has been great all year but just a gut feeling.
Montreal over Saskatchewan Roughriders
Monteral is a very good team that has lost some close games. RoughRiders still have issues with scoring.

Now if Montreal's Cody Fajardo is out. Then I
think the RoughRiders will win.

Toronto Argonauts Football Club over Ottawa REDBLACKS

This game I am sure will be close. Ottawa has done a great job at hanging around in games. Giving them a chance to win. However with Chad Kelly back the Argos should get back in the winners circle this week.

Let me know your picks in the comments!
