A lil bit about Bridget... (a.k.a the full enchilada)
If you know me well, you've found that I'm entrepreneurial. I have been self employed for many years and I have found that living a creative life is truly what I am here to do. In my early twenties as a military spouse I utilized my graphic design training to establish marketing materials for my janitorial service that allowed me to work from home while raising our children during my husband's frequent deployments. I love the good, the bad, and the ever changing landscape that working as a small business owner has to offer. However, it is serving the people that is truly the most gratifying. I found that this is where I THRIVE! A happy customer is what I aim for 100% of the time! I became a self-taught florist after doing several events at church with dear friends. This ignited my journey of working in a small shop, and after the birth of daughter number three, another relocation, I found myself on another entrepreneurial assignment. My journey and focus has evolved since going solo in 2012. I established the original floral and event design business while my husband was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. I enjoyed the hustle that was growing this boutique business. Every aspect was a challenge to meet and conquer. However, with the end of my husband's military career I found that together we needed a change of pace to heal from the wounds that the constant deployments can bring. We decided to leave Oklahoma City for a small town life back to my roots in Kansas. Living near Seattle for so many years my husband and I were in love with the commodity of coffee! We bought a commercial coffee roaster by chance(with no where to put it), from an amazing woman whose late husband had built coffee roasters in his engineering career after returning from Vietnam. (NOTE: We are still dear friends to this day). We immersed ourselves into learning everything we could about roasting coffee and serving specialty coffee. Doors opened through circumstances unforeseen in order for us to create a small roasting business and coffee storefront once we relocated to Cheney, Kansas. Aviator Artisan Coffee Roasters was born. This lifestyle of working together; creating something from our imagination was one of the most rewarding periods of our lives and marriage. It was only four years from fruition to selling the business, however, it gave my husband his strength and built his confidence to get back to his love for aviation. The journey of building a brand was rewarding and forever one of my capstones. Over the years I have had the pleasure of working for and with other entrepreneurs. Truly, I have enjoyed each and every project, wedding, event, experience, print piece, or cup of coffee served. It has been a labor of love, and an honor serving these wonderful individuals, families and organizations. After changing locations several times, we are currently in Alton, Illinois. With this relocation, taking a break from weddings, still roasting coffee as a hobby; I have gleaned a great deal of knowledge about business and work/life satisfaction. It's not easy, but we embrace the hard, to embrace the benefits of what the experiences have brought to our family. I know my children will later tell stories of growing up with love, laughter, some crunch time freak-outs, flower stem cuttings found in random places; early mornings selling coffee at the farmer's markets or store front; online coursework deadlines, constant meetings, late nights at the computer, and dance parties in the living room for another success in the can! I envision networking with creative people, serving communities, traveling the globe, and leaving others with a positive experience in my efforts. This is an adventure I look forward to sharing. You may have found me due to my work, but I hope if you've read this far, you are inspired to reflect on your own victories, your own origin story, and keep moving forward on your journey. Cheers to you and yours,
Bridget McKay
