T H E S T O R Y: When Grace shared a phone video clip with Julie of her son Joshua (then 12) rehearsing with the harpist Camilla Pay earlier this year, she was completely taken with not only Joshua’s incredible sound and musicianship, but particularly with the unnerving similarity between his and Grace’s voices. Inspired to capture this extremely rare Mother and Son talent, Julie wrote the duet ‘To a Skylark’ for them, setting text from the beautiful poem of the same name by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Joshua is delighted to take the lead with the words as Grace soars above in answer to him. He has recently finished his final year at St.John’s College, Cambridge as Head Chorister.

A Percussionist's Songbook is out today!

“Percussionist extraordinaire Joby Burgess” returns with his fifth album on Signum Records, “A Percussionist’s Songbook” – a collection of specially commissioned ‘songs without words’ from John Metcalfe, Tunde Jegede, Dario Marianelli, Yazz Ahmed, Graham Fitkin, Dobrinka Tabakova and Gabriel Prokofiev.

Scored for an arsenal of pitched percussion and electronics the songbook is inspired by texts ranging from the poetry of Robert Graves and Birago Diop to novels by Michael Ondaatje and Isaac Asimov; American philosopher Michael Sandel, songwriter Peter Gabriel, United Nation population growth statistics and Saudi Arabian folk tales.

‘The concept for the album was to juxtapose two masterpieces written in the same year in the immediate aftermath of war (1946) by composers inhabiting two entirely different social and political worlds in the Soviet Union and Britain respectively. The sense of deep anxiety and trepidation (more openly expressed in the Shostakovich quartet but nevertheless felt in the Walton too) is something we did not realise at the time of recording would be so apposite in these times of war in which we find ourselves’

OUT TODAY: WORLD PREMIERE: Director of London Early Opera, Bridget Cunningham has been working tirelessly to bring the rediscovered pastiche opera CAIO FABBRICIO to audiences and today is the release of the full WORLD PREMIERE RECORDING. Are you as excited as we are?

Last week, the opera received its world premiere performance at St George’s, Hanover Square (Handel's own church!) in London and here is the first video from that concert. *Volgi a me gl’affetti tuoi* is sung by mezzo-soprano Hannah Poulsom, singing the role of Bircenna who promises her love and fidelity to King Pirro but only hate and punishment if he does not reciprocate her affection.

Congratulations to Bridget, London Early Opera and all the singers who perform so wonderfully on this album, and we hope this work will continue to be performed and heard by audiences globally.
