I have a terrible terrible habit of using productivity as a defence mechanism.

I've spent so long tying being busy to my sense of personality and self-worth, to the point where I use it as something I can control when my life feels like it's falling apart. So, when it was announced back in December that England would be going into a third National Lockdown, I was convinced that working through it would be the way forward.

I had a comprehensive calendar of blog posts, Instagram posts, Reels and TikToks that I believed would leave me feeling productive, and consequently, of worth.

(Un)surprisingly, that's not how it worked out at all.

I write all about the importance of taking breaks here: https://jaswritesstuff.com/2021/10/knowing-when-to-take-a-break/

Sometimes, you choose the right time to take a break. And other times, your brain chooses for you. Mine was the latter.

I am thrilled to announce that the novel I’ve been working on, on and off, since I was 15 is in the final 12 shortlist for the Young Writer category in the Page Turner Awards 🎉

Publishing a book has been a dream of mine since I was 6 years old, and to make it so far in this competition, after thinking I wouldn’t even make it past the first round, is still so hard to believe (especially since I rarely let people read my fiction 🤎)

It’s an honour to have made it this far already, and I am crossing my fingers for the final later this month ✨
