Heavier banding just south of Indianapolis in Franklin, IN. 1.5 inches an hour (perhaps approaching 2 inches an hour) #OhioValleyWeather
Heavy, wet snow around 1 inch per hour in Franklin, IN just south of Indianapolis
Observation to watch for late this evening and overnight around #indy and potentially even more southward. This map shows what we call the depth of the dendritic growth zone. Layman interpretation: The area of the atmosphere that produces the snow and how thick it is. You notice the zone essentially disappearing. A mid level area of dry air will move into the region and will not allow the snow to be produced. There will be enough moisture left over to lightly precipitate. With sub freezing temps, it will result in a layer of freezing drizzle before the cold air advection takes over tomorrow and the backside snow commences. Windy conditions and blowing snow will also be likely #OhioValleyWeather

** STRONG WINDS TO AFFECT SEVERAL AREAS DURING MAJOR WINTER STORM SUNDAY INTO MONDAY **
As we keep looking at multiple models for the winter storm Sunday into Monday, strong winds will also become a significant factor. Sustained gusts of 15-25 mph with gusts of 35-45 mph will be possible during the winter storm, which may limit visibility. As in terms of snow, if stronger winds are realized, some places may experience near-blizzard conditions. While the HRRR may be overdone on wind gusts, it is safe that wind gusts of 35-40 mph will be possible, with localized gusts to 45 mph not out of the question. This is your last day to prepare before the onset of precipitation starts tomorrow morning. Stay tuned for updates.
