The Pit is an audio recording studio in Van Nuys, CA operated by engineer Taylor Young. Established in 2009, The Pit has been pumping out aggressive music for the better part of a decade. The studio is known for creating many of today's contemporary hardcore/metal classics, as well as mixing many international greats of the genre. Notable albums include Rotting Out's "Street Prowl", Xibalba's "Hasta La Muerte" and all of the material by Young's own, Twitching Tongues.

Had to downsize a good bit in the move but we will rebuild. Held onto all the most unique and useful stuff the best I could. 9 months later it ALL feels new.

Starting to put things in place. Should have gotten a VESA mount 5 years ago. Gonna help with eye strain immensely. Patchbay cable density in the back always created a HEAVY mess so I’m keeping the bays spaced out this time around for cleaner dressing and organization, plus easier access if I ever need to change something. Might need longer patch cables though. I promise my weird panel would make sense if you were me.

The new studio is DONE. Just waiting on A/C and I’ve started installing gear. For now here’s a little final trim reveal and some cool functional furniture. Spent all day putting together this mic stand rack so I’m not tempted to pile them in a corner. Inspired by ’s stand rack. stands are tanks and this should withstand their might. The mic cabinet was also able to survive the move from the original studio and doubles as a snare shelf.

Both layers of drywall are finished, ceiling is in, floor moulding is in, electricity is on, lights are in hand, 703 frames are going up, rear control room slats are in

Things seem to be moving pretty fast since the exterior was mostly finished. Floating sub floors are in both rooms, exterior doors are in, interior frame is up, 75% of the insulation is in, electrical is almost all run, audio cables are routed with panels arriving tomorrow from . I’ve never looked forward to soldering more in my life. The little bit of drywall up feels like the biggest moment yet.

2023 was the BEST year of releases from the studio, which ended real weird. 2024 is looking to be a fresh start with plenty to look forward to. Thank you all.

Temporary overdub/mixing station is ready and rockin. Thank you for the desk! It was super easy to set up and it’s rock solid. I’ve got all my most-used gear rigged up for vocal/guitar tracking and it’s feeling pretty good.

It’s not uncommon to come to The Pit and get jumped. 414 is not an oft-sung hero of bass but it can grab all the juice in the right ways with the right pairing. MXR Bass DI is a certified classic.

Channeling on this one, both being boosted by some of .michael.w’s new fuzz toys. Crimson Audio Yellow 57 and 121 picking up the full body of the DC10, N22 on the Gibson amp getting ALL the woof.

Reorganization mode: engaged. The new hanging mic locker courtesy of opens up my floor space tremendously, which means easier access to almost everything, except the mics, which now have a designated step stool. also built most of the wood head cases pictured.

On my Melvins s**t with the Longsword into the Hilbish into the Twin. Really wanted to capture the harshness of what I’ve got coming out of there so there’s a Josephson 606A blended with the AL95. The HMW is running the grit side of our Oni prototype which has a different chip than the production model, captured by a Beyer 81 and M160. This all sounds super weird and mean blended together.

Distort everything, yes EVERYTHING. New Cloudlifter X with transformers in them, which when pushed add just a bit of harmonic saturation to the clean boost.
