WJDB 95.5 FM

WJDB 95.5 FM Home of the Hound Dog and Hot Country since 1956. Based in Thomasville, Alabama. The History of WJDB 95.5

It all started with the dream of Mr. J.D. Mr.

The ONLY station in Southwest Alabama with local news and Atlanta Braves baseball! Auburn and Thomasville Tiger athletics, The Morning Rush with Trey Rowell (the only live morning show at 5 in South Alabama), and Gettin' Outdoors with Big Daddy Lawler! Bishop to have a radio station in Thomasville. That dream became a reality over fifty years ago. Bishop thought that the station should have his na

me.and now you know where our station got the call letters, WJDB. Those first years were filled with doing what has become a trademark of this station until the present time.entertaining our listeners in southwest Alabama and serving our client base. Two of the early members of the staff were Johnny McDonald and Virgil Moore. Both of these gentlemen held political office, with "Johnny Mac", as he was known on the air, serving as mayor of Thomasville, and Virgil Moore, with the on-air name of "Possum Moore", being a member of the city council. On February 1, 1991, WJDB Inc. was acquired by Griffin Broadcasting Corporation. The owner of Griffin Broadcasting, Ivey Griffin, worked at WJDB while a student in college. It was during this period of time that a love of radio became instilled in him while working side by side with Johnny McDonald and Virgil Moore. On January 15, 1995, WJDB underwent a major upgrade, which included a new state of the art transmitter using the latest in digital processing. Matching upgrades were also put in place at the main studio including a new computerized audio management system. Since being acquired by Griffin Broadcasting Corporation, the station has won awards for news coverage, community service and our contributions to education. We are proud of our long term relationships with the Atlanta Braves, the Auburn Radio Network and Alabama Radio News

At WJDB, we are proud of our heritage and as we move forward, our focus on entertaining and informing our listeners will remain unchanged.

We are rehearsing on Monday, December 11th at 7:00 pm in the band room at Thomasville. Since there are only two remaining rehearsals before our concert it is important that you be present if at all possible. If you have attended a rehearsal since September we are counting on you to play with us. We still would like to add another flute or two. We have had a great fall rehearsing and we need to cap it all with a fantastic concert. Have a great weekend and we hope to have a full band room on Monday night!
