n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

Hey folks! I know I’ve been a little MIA for a while as I’ve been taking time to sit back, listen, and figure out how to adjust to the current climate. I’ve asked myself, “how am I going to make a travel magazine when the world is shut down?” countless times and wondered if this was even important enough to keep up. But reading your stories has brought me back down to earth. Hearing about the times travelling made you feel more alive than you’ve ever felt before reminded me of why I’m doing this. I’ve been thinking “how can I do this NOW?” when the reality is, we need this the most NOW. We need to remember the adventures of our lives, the breathtaking parts, the hard parts, the unbelievable parts. We need to reflect on the past and adapt for the future. Submissions are still open for Edition 3 and will be until August 1 and we would love to hear your stories - even about your experiences in this nuanced year! Stay safe out there ♥️

Just a few weeks ago we were planning our upcoming trip to Paris. Now, we are cancelling flights and social distancing. It’s undeniable that COVID-19 is effecting all of us in a number of different ways. If you’re spending your free time nostalgically looking at pictures from times when you could leave the house and travel the world like we are, keep doing that. When I travel somewhere, of course I have to get *that shot* of the tourist icons, the ones that I saw everywhere online that helped convince me to choose my destination. But one of my favorite things is getting *that shot* then moving around, finding new angles of a place that has been photographed the same way so many times. I’ve always loved this picture from the Parça Do Comércio in Lisbon because it appears to be a casual corridor capturing daily life, but if the camera were turned 90° you’d see the bright and bustling square by the bay filled with dozens of tour groups, hundreds of languages, and immeasurable selfies.
