Update 7/7/24: Without any doubt I have discovered a phenomenal new artist by the name of TETOUZE. Of course, in the process of creating Ancient Vedic Radio I listen to a lot of music and naturally I am listening to a lot of new music. This is how I found TETOUZE.

By the time you read this I will have made "public" (link below) a playlist on our YouTube channel called "Just Tetouze," featuring over 50 of his videos. In fact, as I am typing this I have it playing and I am sure that over time I will add more videos and even remove some. This will only make his playlist all that better.

Dear friends of “Ancient Vedic Radio” …Today we’re about to enter into July 2024 and I want to post this update.

Life has now given me a lot more free time and this has allowed me re-shape “Ancient Vedic Radio” into something much better for all of us.

Practically speaking what this means is that you will now find “Ancient Vedic Radio” on YouTube, where it has its own dedicated channel.

The heartbeat of “Ancient Vedic Radio” is presently found on its Playlists page. Presently there are 3 playlist to choose from; so that’s over 30 tracks and over 3 hours of music. Even as I am writing this, Playlist No. 4 is playing but there’s a lot to do before it’s ready to go live.

When you go to our YouTube channel you will need to click on the “Playlist Tab” to choose which playlist to listen to. Please subscribe to our channel to receive notifications of new playlists.

Now a word about YouTube. Unless you have a “Premium Membership” ($13.99 per month), you will experience unwanted ads. For me, spending $3.50 a week (or 50 cents a day) is just about the best money I have ever spent. Now, no matter what I listen to on YouTube it is NEVER interrupted by an ad. 6/8/2024 Today, I am offering my heartfelt appreciation to my wife (Kay) who today, if she was still with me, would be celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary. In remembrance of her, Ancient Vedic Radio is dedicating this new playlist (No. 1) to her, published today on the 8th of June, 2024. Kay was so kind in supporting me in nearly everything I ever wanted to do and yet always a fierce advocate for Jesus. In all honesty, without her help, Ancient Vedic Radio would not even exist today, so therefore, in every sense of the word, Kay is the true founder of Ancient Vedic Radio, founded upon her love for me, endless hours of working a full-time job, keeping our accounts in perfect shape, and guiding me with her extraordinary intellect. So I am honored to say, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart and thank you for marrying me 28 years ago.”

6/7/24: This is a song written and sung by Snatam Kaur Khalsa. She is also playing the harmonium. She is accompanied by
Jahnavi Harrison, a famous singer in her own right. Jahnavi can also be heard playing the violin.

"Gurmukhi" is the language for both the people of Punjabi and the sacred scriptures of Sikhism. The Punjabis are an ethnic society associated with areas of northern India and eastern Pakistan. This is why when you first hear Snatam sing, her words seem so strange.

The name of this song is "Tauraa Naam" which means "Your Name." The song repeats 4 basic themes:

1. The destroyer of sorrow is Your Name, Oh Divine One.
2. Throughout the 8 watches of the day & night I dwell upon the perfect wisdom of the true Guru.

'Om Namah Shivaya' can mean "I honour Shiva, the Divine Within All Things, may the divine resonate within and without me". This time on earth can feel challenging on many levels, within our shared trails and tribulations we have been given the opportunity to align with the creator, the divine essence in all things, but to do so we must surrender, and bow down to spirit, then within this surrender accept and embody our true power. Monday 5/28:

The Shanti People has evolved greatly since Ancient Vedic Radio first played their music. This song (“Mahishasura Mardhini”) is a great example of their genius, direction, and talent. Regarding this song, “Mahishasura Mardhini” means one who killed the Asura Mahishasura and refers to Goddess Durga. The demon was in the form of a buffalo and hence the name “Mahish Asura”. She was created by the Gods to eradicate evil and many Asuras and Dhanavas were killed by her.

The beautiful Stotra is very captivating and describes in detail her beauty, power, emotions, skills, compassion and divinity. The verses have great poetry and use various alliterations to describe the divine nature of the Goddess.

The author of these verses is not clearly known but according to some sources it is said to be Kavi Ramakrishna (Tenali Ram of Krishnadeva Raya fame – Vijayanagar Empire), while others attribute it to Adi Shankara.

It may initially sound like a tongue twister, but once you have spent 4 -5 hears learning to chant along with an Audio the rhythm and words are mesmerising and you will enjoy chanting it. These verses are traditionally chanted in South Indian homes during Navarathri. It is also chanted in the early morning of Mahalaya which marks the onset of Navarathri & Durga Puja.

5/27/24 (Monday): "Silence" is one of my favorite songs. When Ancient Vedic Radio was broadcasting monthly on its website, occasionally I would add this song to boost the overall mood of the entire set. However, mostly I played music from India...but now and then something a little different seemed to get the most LIKES and I definitely liked the affect.

I remember about 10 years ago when Jai Uttal, with such affection, encouraged me to play his music on Ancient Vedic Radio. This is one of my favorites. I love the mood of this long, trance-like track.

As many of my followers know, I don't always play music that has its roots strictly from India; but the majority, yes. However, there is some Christian music I also play and sometimes I play music that is simply performed by some highly talented artists.

When I was putting together full-length shows for Ancient Vedic Radio that consisted of approximately a dozen songs, I actually preferred a mixture of sounds rather than one particular style taking up the entire show.

For example, I would want to pull a track out of this music by "RY X"" and remember the 8th text, from the 7th chapter of the Bhagavad-gita where Lord Krsna says to Arjuna: O son of Kuntī, I am the taste of water, the light of the sun and the moon, the syllable oṁ in the Vedic mantras; I am the sound in ether and the "ability in man."

But tonight, instead of just one track, here is the entire album. What amazing ability is on display in this video.

This is such a beautiful song, performed by my old friend Gaura Vani on His "Ten Million Moons" album. This is part of the Kindred Spirits project and includes the following artists: Shyam Kishore, Vrinda Rani, Jvala Mukhi & Nistha Raj. What you are hearing are the Śikṣāṣṭakam (Shik-shash-takam) Prayers.

The Shikshashtakam is a 16th-century Gaudiya Vaishnava Hindu prayer of eight verses Composed in the Sanskrit language, they are the only verses left personally written by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486 – 1534).

The Shikshashtakam is quoted within the "Chaitanya Charitamrita," written by Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami's biographer. The name of the prayer comes from the Sanskrit words Śikṣā, meaning 'instruction', and aṣṭaka, meaning 'consisting of eight parts', i.e., stanzas. The teachings contained within the eight verses are believed to contain the essence of all teachings on Bhakti yoga within the Gaudiya tradition.
