Insólito UniVerso "Ese puerto existe"
OUT NOW! The Paris-based Venezuelans, Insólito UniVerso, focus in on their psychedelic folk sound on sharp new single “Ese puerto existe” for Olindo Records, backed with an otherworldly remix from Awkward Corners of “Jota”. Available on a limited 7” vinyl record, digital download and all streaming services: https://album.link/xvhkvrrpr4rsp
Of “Ese puerto existe”, lead vocalist, composer and cuatro player, Maria Fernanda, tells us “this song takes us to the coast, on that beach where the star and the grain of sand are tracing that vertical and infinite line of the present. Perhaps it is the mouth of the flame of the river reaching the sea. Perhaps a look of a bird in migration.”
“Ese puerto existe” takes its name from the first collection of poems by the Peruvian poet, Blanca Varela, who wrote, "On this coast I am the one who wakes up / among the foliage with brown wings”. The song is in the rhythm of the Gaita Tambora, from the Afro-Venezuelan tradition of the southern shores of Lake Maracaibo.
“Ese puerto existe” is mixed Malcolm Catto at Quatermass Sound Lab.
Mastered and cut by Frank Merritt at The Carvery, London
House sleeve art & logo by Gaurab Thakali.

“Manyanet” is a sonic postcard dedicated to the small town of the same name in the Catalan Pyrenees, which inspired Isaac through its landscapes and sounds. It was one of the first songs Isaac wrote and recorded in Barcelona, Spain following his move from Venezuela, and contains a mixture of field recordings captured during his visit, juxtaposed with the sounds of Caracas during a rainy afternoon.

Betsayda Machado y la Parranda El Clavo "La Situación"
"La Situación" by Betsayda Machado y la Parranda El Clavo is one of the many protest songs found in our latest offering on Olindo Records. It sings about the struggles of finding basic foods and goods in the supermarket shelves. Even though this was recorded in 2017, these issues still persist and have even worsened in the past year.

A partial translation into English follows:
.
“It’s going on, we’re upside down.
Couldn’t find a grain of rice, there’s no meat to be found. I went to the market early in the morning, and got there to find a whole bunch of nothing.
I went to the market, feeling really happy.
Here’s my empty basket, now I’m feeling crappy.
Milk, oil, dough and diapers, apparently left town.
The shine of their absence, this is all I found.
Have you seen some pasta with its sauce and meat?
Oh my lord, my lord, what am I supposed to eat?
Half minimum wages used to get us pork.
Now it’s not enough to buy bread by the loaf.”
