✈️ Survey: 34% of Hongkongers Plan to Move Abroad, Australia and UK are Top Choices 👋

🎙️ “According to a survey by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, about a third of Hongkongers would move abroad if given the chance, mainly due to the city’s bleak economic prospects. The results came from a poll conducted by the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies last month, which also asked respondents to rate the city’s liveability and find out where they would emigrate. A little over 34% of those surveyed said they would leave Hong Kong for good, despite rating the city’s liveability at 60.8, which the report said was “statistically significantly higher” than last year’s rating of 56.5.”

🏞️ Hong Kong Gets New Eco-Destination as 37-Hectare Nature Park Opens in Long Valley 🌿

🎙️ “Hong Kong recently opened the Long Valley Nature Park in abandoned farmlands and privately owned areas in the northern New Territories to attract endangered bird species to Hong Kong. The park spans 37 hectares and is home to wet farmlands, a water flea pond, shallow ponds, and marshes, as well as irrigation channels to nurture various wildlife and facilitate eco-friendly farming practices.

Long Valley Nature Park is a freshwater wetland area located between the Sheung Yue and Shek Sheung rivers. It comprises three zones — the Biodiversity Zone for core conservation, the Agriculture Zone for eco-friendly farming, and the Visitor Zone equipped with facilities for visitors and educational activities. It was set up to compensate for wetland loss in Kwu Tong North and Fanling North New Development Area, and construction began in 2019."

🚇 MTR Wants Passengers to Stand on Both Sides of Escalators 👣

🎙️ “The practice of standing only on the right side of MTR escalators in Hong Kong may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to a new campaign launched by the city’s rail corporation. The 2024 Escalator Safety Campaign kicked off last week to encourage passengers to hold the handrail and stand firm on either side of running escalators instead of walking up the left side, and to use lifts when carrying bulky items.

According to a statement from MTR officials, there were 430 recorded escalator safety incidents inside stations during the first nine months of the year, and 60% of them “involved passengers who were not holding onto handrails, lost their balance while walking, were bumped by others, or were carrying bulky items.”

🥶 Temperatures Drop to 14.9°C at Tai Mo Shan, Mercury to Fall to 21°C in Urban Hong Kong This Week 🌡️

🎙️ “The mercury plummeted to 14.9 degrees Celsius at Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong’s highest peak, on Wednesday morning under the influence of a dry northeast monsoon that is bringing fine and dry weather to the territory. Tate’s Cairn also recorded temperatures of 17.8 degrees, while The Peak was 19.8 degrees. However, it was warmer in urban parts of the city, with the Hong Kong Observatory headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui recording 23.4 degrees.

Temperatures in urban parts of the city will fall to as little as 21 degrees Celsius on Friday, when humidity levels will be as low as 35%. Lows for this week will range between 21 and 23 degrees, with expected maximum temperatures going no higher than 28 degrees. The next few days will generally be sunny, which will be followed by periods with a few showers.”

🧥 Weather to Get Cooler, with 20-24°C Lows During the Coming Week 🍂

🎙️ “The Hong Kong Observatory says the city will be consistently cooler this week, thanks to “a replenishment of the northeast monsoon” that will bring fine and dry weather to the territory and low humidity levels. Minimum temperatures will range between 20 degrees and 24 degrees Celsius, and humidity levels could be at as little as 35% on Thursday.

The city’s local forecaster expects that it will be cooler in the morning and night, accompanied by large day-night temperature differences. Temperatures will hit a high of 31 degrees on Thursday and Friday, but will subsequently drop gradually, due to the “influence of an upper-air disturbance”. This will bring cloudier conditions to the city, along with a few showers on Sunday and Monday.”
