Somerset Gas & Auto Repair is proud to celebrate its 3 Year Anniversary with a special community appreciation event going on Sunday, April 19th from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM or until sold out of fuel.

To mark three years of serving the Somerset community, the business is once again doing what it has done in the past, giving back to the people who made it all possible.

With gas prices continuing to rise, Somerset Gas & Auto Repair is showing its appreciation by dropping fuel prices to the lowest in town for the day.

Prices will be $3.49 for regular and same price cash or credit. $3.99 midgrade/89, $4.49 for super and $5.49 for diesel. That is a 50 cent discount on all fuel in comparison to the normal full service gas prices.

Plus, customers who purchase 8 gallons or more will receive a complimentary windshield washer fluid fill up.

Somerset Gas & Auto Repair celebrates this milestone with sincere gratitude for the community that has supported the business from day one. The business continues to grow because of that local support, and this event is a way of giving back and saying thank you to everyone who continues to choose them.

Whether you stop in for fuel, auto repairs, a Massachusetts vehicle inspection, or even just to take advantage of the station’s free air, every customer is always welcome and appreciated.

The celebration will take place rain or shine, and everyone is invited to stop by, fuel up, and be part of the milestone.

- Target has started a major $2 million dollar renovation to its Swansea store located at 579 G.A.R. Highway. According to a Town of Swansea issued building permit, a total of $2,118,602 will be spent on the remodel.

The project will take about 3 to 4 months to complete and the store will remain open during construction.

The renovation work is being done by the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. This full-scale modernization will bring a refreshed layout, expanded departments, and upgraded drive-up areas.

There are currently two staging areas located within the existing parking lot for construction equipment and material. This area is now fenced off with a chain link fence and contains storage containers, dumpsters and a trailer for the staff.

The Swansea Target store originally opened for business back in July of 2011.

- Gabriel Ruz, CEO of the Ignited Culture at 610 G.A.R. Highway in Swansea, has issued the following statement regarding the advertised foreclosure auction of the property:

“Hi neighbors and friends, we want to address the rumors and news stories you may have seen this week about a foreclosure at 610 GAR Highway.

A quick but important clarification: Ignited Culture does not own the building we operate in. The property is owned by a separate company. That company resolved its mortgage dispute completely as of today , the foreclosure is off, the building is secure, and our operations are entirely unaffected.

There is a private legal matter between the building owner and the prior mortgage holder that is being handled through the proper legal channels. We can’t share every detail, but what we can promise you is this: we are open, we are stable, and we are not going anywhere.

We look forward to expanding and opening additional locations in the future, this community has shown us exactly why we do what we do.

Thank you for your concern and your loyalty. It means the world to us.

On a side note the weather is improving and we look forward to bringing back Taco Tuesdays! Best street tacos in Massachusetts!”

- The Ninth Events Venue at 75 Swansea Mall Drive has closed for business.

The 4,000 square foot space inside the small plaza on Swansea Mall Drive was transformed into an event venue back in February of 2024 and had seating for 140 people.

The Ninth Events Venue featured Chandeliers, Integrated up-lighting, Bluetooth audio system and 2 restrooms. The venue space had an elegant and modern décor throughout the facility.

Owner Fabiola Felix sent Fall River Development News the following statement:

“Some cycles come to an end, not because love is missing, but because they have fulfilled their purpose.

The Ninth Events Venue was a season of growth, learning, mistakes, and creations made with deep love and intention. I want to sincerely thank every person who was part of this journey, and especially our clients; those who trusted us, supported us, and gave us the opportunity to bring their events to life.

This decision came after much reflection. What began as a creative passion project grew into a full scale responsibility that required more time and energy than we initially imagined.

At this stage in our lives, choosing well-being and family had to come first and stepping away from running the venue felt like the right decision.

Today, we close this chapter with gratitude and respect for everything it gave us.
Endings are also necessary. What was learned remains, and what was lived is honored.

The Ninth Events now evolves into Empress Events

Beginning in May, we will continue offering event design and decor services with the same passion and dedication, which remains at the core of what we truly love to do.

Thank you to everyone who supported us, trusted us, and shared meaningful moments in this space. Thank you for being part of our story. We look forward to continuing to create beautiful moments together in this new chapter.”

- Boston-based Finegold Alexander Architects will be leading the Feasibility Study and Schematic Design for the Joseph Case Junior High School project in partnership with the Swansea Public Schools. Following a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), Finegold Alexander emerged as the ideal candidate to lead the transformative project.

The Joseph Case Junior High School, which serves students grades 6-8, marks a significant opportunity for the town to reimagine educational spaces and cultivate an inclusive environment for all their students. With over five decades of experience, Finegold Alexander is working closely with the Swansea community to design a school building that meets their educational mission of providing a safe, diverse, and nurturing educational environment that encourages lifelong learning.

“Finegold Alexander Architects is proud to partner with Swansea Public Schools on this essential Joseph Case Junior High School project for the whole community,” said Regan Shields Ives, principal and K-12 studio leader at Finegold Alexander. “Our mission aligns seamlessly with the school’s commitment to provide an environment for students to engage, think, and succeed in both their local and global communities.”

The project team recently completed the Preferred Schematic Report which features a new building design located adjacent to the existing high school creating a shared campus for the students and the community to thrive. The design supports the educational goals of Swansea Public Schools and incorporates learning neighborhoods conducive for Junior High School model, inclusive special education, access to outdoor learning and abundant natural daylight in the learning spaces. After recent approval by the MSBA Board, the team kicks off the Schematic Design phase in close collaboration with the Town of Swansea and the MSBA.

“This new school is more than a building, it’s an investment in the future of every child who walks through its doors,” said superintendent of schools, Scott Holcomb. “Finegold Alexander’s vision will help us create a place where students can learn, grow, and imagine what’s possible.”

The project is scheduled to break ground in 2028 with completion date in 2030.

Finegold Alexander has a long history of designing educational spaces – renovating and transforming existing buildings, as well as creating new construction – into inspirational, future-forward learning environments. Their extensive K-12 portfolio across New England includes the recently completed Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School New Academic Building in Marlborough, MA, and on-going construction of a new educational facility for The Community Group in Lawrence, MA, and the new Gladstone Elementary School in Cranston, Rhode Island.
