– Five Below, a specialty discount retailer is coming to Swansea!

The retailer primarily sells products for $5 or less, though some items in the "Five Beyond" section are priced higher. The new store will occupy 10,009 square feet of space inside one of the vacant buildings at 58-86 Swansea Mall Drive according to a Town of Swansea issued building permit.

The entire property consists of 2 buildings, owned by Gator Investments, and was formerly home to a Price Rite and Toys "R" Us. Currently, Dollar Tree is the only tenant at the site occupying 20,000 square feet of space. The site contains over 83,000 square feet of retail space in both buildings. A redevelopment of the property is planned with exterior facade renovations proposed.

Five Below targets teens and pre-teens and offers a wide range of merchandise, including games, candy, phone accessories, and home decor items.

In July, the town also approved a building permit for an Aldi grocery store to go into a vacant building on 58-86 Swansea Mall Drive. Aldi will occupy 20,147 square feet of space at the site.

The cost of construction for the new Aldi Store is a little over $2.2 million.

Most of the construction cost is the building portion, which is estimated at $1.5 million. Electrical and plumbing will cost $420,000 and $135,000, respectively. Mechanical HVAC work is expected to be $194,000 and additional mechanical work will cost $16,000.
