When your health and wellness are secondary to EVERYTHING else, it’s time to R.E.S.T

Or implement what I call The R.E.S.T. Method.

Never heard of it? Keep reading. 👇🏻

The R.E.S.T Method was created in the midst of my Masters Degree Program in the late 90’s. Our thesis project involved developing and implementing a new Nursing Theory.
The objective: Develop a tool one can use to preserve and optimize the physical, mental, and spiritual health and wellbeing of the self.
Anyhoo. This was mine. Although this is not the theory I chose for my thesis project, I have incorporated this in my life.
Going through the steps in this exercise daily has made a huge impact on my mental, physical health, wellbeing, and a overall feeling of balance.
I promise you, doing this is life changing.

Here are the basics-Grab a piece of paper or save this post so you can take notes.

According to the EPA, in the US, only 34.6% of garbage is recycled. More alarming is the packaging of beauty and personal care makes up 30% of the trash in our landfills! 😳

😱 Even more incredible, the top 3 reasons for this are…wait for it…

1. Inconvenience
2. Confusion about what and how personal care products can be recycled
3. Accessibility to recycling programs

👩🏻‍🦰 Reduce, Reuse, Refill, Recycle is my jam, but I have to admit even I face challenges recycling my personal care products.

🛑 Stop, Drop, and Think. Just a second or two. ⏳

🤔 How many personal care products you own are headed for the landfill? Personally, my brain almost exploded! 🤯

💻 It was time to roll up my sleeves, find solutions to clean up my own act, and pass helpful tips to help reduce the staggering number of personal care products NOT winding up in landfills or our precious 🌊.

👉🏻 What I found

1. TerraCycle has a wealth of information on recycling not only beauty products but hard-to-recycle items. Some are free, and some you have to pay.
2. (in-store only) partnered with to implement boxes for consumers to drop off empty clean personal care containers.
3. Lushcosmetics (in-store only) Has a robust in-house recycling program. Bring 5 containers back and get a free face mask. Yay!
4. ILIA Beauty On-line, request a parcel bag, put 5 clean empty products from ANY brand whether you buy from them or not Mail back. Free!
5. TULA Also partnered with offering its customers to send back ONLY their products for proper disposal.

Are you unable to use Retinol?

Finding products when you have dry/reactive/sensitive skin where you can benefit from using retinol can be a challenge.

When their line of Serum, Eye Cream, and Moisturizer with Bakuchiol for my honest review, I was very happy to give it a try to see how my skin reacts.

At first glance all the products differ slightly, are filled with ingredients that nourish the skin, promote hydration, protect the skin’s natural barrier function, and complement each other.
Though nothing in this line-up scared me to move forward. I did do a patch test just in case.

My Experience:

👉🏻 A little goes a long way. Less is more- too much and my skin became a bit oily.
👉🏻 Does not feel heavy on the skin.
👉🏻 Skin feels hydrated, smooth, and glowing after application.
👉🏻 No skin irritation or reactivity after 7 days
👉🏻 Some warmth to the skin during the day. Sunscreen is a must, even indoors. This helps immediately.
👉🏻 In the PM, my skin feels smooth and hydrated, without feeling greasy. No residue is left on my pillow.

Do I recommend it?

Yes! Especially if you have dry/sensitive skin and cannot use traditional retinol products.
Of course, check the ingredient list as everyone’s skin is different.

I recently went into AT&T to make changes to my cell phone account, and in casual conversation, I asked if there were any promotions for First Responders. (Yes, I am one 😂)

Well…It was like the heavens opened up!

The rep in the store shared a program exclusive with At&T I have to share with you, as I was completely in the dark.

🤔 With all the greens listed, there is no Vitamin K or Iron on the Label, as I would expect. Query… stated there is no “added” Vitamin K and only trace amounts of Iron not required to be placed on the Nutrition facts label.

Decisions…Decisions 🤔

I am trying to decide which sheet mask I am going to surprise my Mom with today for a little mini spa day.

She adores being able to stay home with me. Even though she now requires 24 hour care -I cherish every moment. We have so much fun together.

I decided on the Drench sheet mask since both of our skin has been needing a drink.

* 2 in 1 Body Wash + Bath Soak (Cedarwood + Bergamot)
* I have used almost every drop of this. Between quick showers and a self care day bubble bath. Its a must have for your bath. Initially, I did not think I would enjoy the scent…BUT its so light, fresh, and clean. I just love it.
* Shampoo & Conditioner Set – for Hair & Scalp (Thick & Full)
* This set does the job. If you have any scalp build up, one use it’s gone.
* The conditioner is very light. I have very dry hair. If you have normal hair, it’s perfect.
* Psst- If you have colored hair…make sure you test. The shampoo did strip some of my red from my hair.
* 3 Pack Olive Oil Fragrance-Free Bar Soap.
* ❤️ Love this soap… unlike traditional soaps. Its lather is more creamy than foamy, and leaves my skin soft and smooth. Traditional Soap products leave my skin stripped and running for body lotion.
* Moisture Shave 4-in-1 Shave Lotion (Cedarwood + Bergamot)
* I am OBSESSED with this shaving lotion.
* I have wispy hair, so normally it takes a few passes to shave. Not with this cream, one swipe and it’s done. Such a time saver!
