Something local to Keyworth for next Sunday to put in the diary? -

Thanks to Hanwell Wine Estate, they have supported us in the past for prizes and also support barn owls and organic.

The cooling towers are a sign you're nearly home to many Nottingham folk.

But Ratcliffe-on-Soar - the UK's last active coal-fired power station - will close for good later this year.

Workers said it'll be a sad day but "I guess it's done, it's time, and needs to be taken down".

A correction to the published article in the April edition of Keyworth News:
Keyworth’s on the Mend!

Since we started Keyworth’s very own Repair Café in 2022, we’ve been delighted to find out how much local residents value the chance to mend their stuff. We’ve sharpened vast amounts of shears, scissors, secateurs and other blades, re-strung many beads, re-stuffed and mended soft furnishings, mended clothes, put handbags back together, got all manner of electric items working again and done first-aid on a surprising number of soft toys. The most popular of the repairs is definitely sharpening and that’s what we’re known for, but the jewellery and textile repairs can make a huge difference, because our experts have the
right kit to make a proper fix, and the know-how to do it well!
Our 8th Repair Cafe is on Sunday 14th April 10am till 1pm. We have Textile/ Clothing Repairs, Jewellery and Electrical Repairs too. We also have the very popular garden tools
sharpening. We can adjust brakes on your bike & oil it, plus show you how to repair punctures! As always, it’s very important the you book in your repairs before the day, so we can make sure we have time to fit you in and the right kit to try the fix. Make your booking by contacting [email protected]

Tomorrow we will be taking out the Park Run Bus. A free shuttle in time for Rushcliffe parkrun.

Please read about John’s experiences in Keyworth News below.

If you would like to join us, you are most welcome.

Think creatively: if you live in say Widmerpool or Willoughby, you could turn it into a duathlon.
Cycle to Keyworth, catch the bus, do the run, bus back, cycle. Something to ponder for the warmer months maybe.

Temperature tomorrow:
Weather: 4°C and partly cloudy. No rain forecast.

Business Spotlight
Keyworth News was proud to support South Notts Handyman in the January '24 edition of the magazine. If you would like your business spotlighted- please get in touch. Whatsapp 007741 565791
My name is Ian Knight- AKA The South Notts Handyman, I moved into the village in 2018 and renovated my home. I worked in corporate for 30 years and wanted something different. I have always been very good at DIY and saw an opportunity to do something I loved and make a living out of it. So I took the brave decision to start South Notts Handyman in Feb of 2021.

A customer once said to me that I'm not quite a builder but much more than a handyman. In the past 3 years I have fitted kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, hardwood and laminate flooring and general DIY Tasks, But I'm not confined to the house. I do fences, gates, patios, garden structures such as pergolas, pagodas and garden Buildings. In the beginning The challenge I faced was letting people know about me.

Keyworth News was instrumental in getting my name out. Since then my work has spoke for itself with many clients returning or recommending me to friends. A memorable success was the first kitchen I fitted for a lady who was restricted to a wheelchair. She loved the fact that I can do most of the work myself negating the need for lots of different contractors but also when we did need other contractors. I managed them, taking the worry out of the project for her. From organising the design to handing the kitchen back was two weeks. We recently collaborated with DTR Custom to help a vulnerable couple whose son works abroad they needed an internal wall taking out and rebuilding to enable DTR to install fitted wardobes.
I not only did most of the work I project managed the electrical and plasterers. I have brought what I had learned in Corporate to my business. Don't over promise or under deliver.

I treat every job as if it were my home and I treat customers how I would like to be treated by Contractors. I have an empathy with a lot of my customers, especially the older generation as I know they would love to do things for themselves but just can't anymore. One customer story that stands out to me is the lovely couple I worked for replacing a Juliet balcony and the 3 yr old was sawing wood with his plastic saw as I was using my saw. He was so cute.Keyworth is such a vibrant and growing Village from young couples to new families right through to the older generation who would love to do it for themselves but just aren't able to anymore. Sometimes you can feel the frustration in their voices. I know it is so hard to come to terms with.

I plan to continue to help the people of Keyworth and South Notts I want to remain small enough to care about what I do. For some of the larger companies, it’s all about profit and they lose the fact that they are actually problem solving for people. I now work closely with another company on the larger projects such as landscaping, fencing and garden buildings.

The Local community has definitely supported me and I will continue to support them by giving them great service and offering what other companies sometimes fail to do e.g. understanding their requirements and delivering upon that.I’m proud of my customer service and would like to leave them with the last word:

"If, Like me, your heart sinks a little when you need to find a contractor for any of those jobs around the house then fear no longer. Ian at South Notts Handyman is responsive, relentless, cheerful and capable in all areas. Go on trust him you won't be disappointed."
R Benson in Willoughby

"Ian spent two days restoring and repairing our balcony, installing shelves, sanding and repainting exteriors, refitting curtain poles, clearing drains and generally fixing a long list of niggling items around the house. His work ethic and the number of jobs he ploughed through were hugely impressive, and the quality of his work has left us putting together another list of jobs next time he's available. He was brilliant with our toddler throughout, which made everything easier for us! We'll be highly recommending him to neighbours and nearby friends."
