Took names with no last names, no birth certificates, no heritage of any kind, braved the Underground Railroad, survived the Civil War to enter into sharecropping... Learned to read and write out of sheer will and determination, faced the burning crosses of the K*K, everted their eyes at the black bodies swinging from ropes hung on trees...

Fought in World Wars as soldiers only to return to America as boys, marched in Birmingham, hosed in Selma, jailed in Wilmington, assassinated in Memphis, segregated in the South, ghettoed in the North, ignored in history books, stereotyped in Hollywood...

and in spite of it all, someone in your family line endured every era to make sure you would get here, but you receive one rejection, face one obstacle, lose one friend, get overlooked, and you want to quit?

Dear Readers:

Webster dictionary defines a family as the basic unit of society traditionally consisting of two parents rearing their children. With that in mind, meet Joseph and Sally Lassiter, a couple who took the saying “be fruitful and multiple” seriously. They are the parents of Samuel, Joshua, Ruby, Pearl, Diamond, Matthew, Luke, Opal, Timothy, Jade, Adam, and Sapphire.

If you did not notice, all the males are named after men of the bible and will be referred to as The Gents in this series of novels. Why? I’m glad you asked. Well, not only are they your typical Alpha males, with their tall, dark good looks and arrogant ways, they are all true southern gentlemen that wisely open their hearts and welcome love— from the right woman.

Now, the females, well, they are all named after precious gemstones and will be referred to as The Gems in this series. Why? Simple. They are precious gems to their father and brothers. Any man that enters into their lives must treat them as such or deal with the males who all stand over six feet tall. But, putting aside the fear factor, any man that is fortunate enough to have the heart of a Lassiter woman will have in his possession the priceless gift of undying love.

To assist you, my readers from The Heart Series, this story takes place during the time when JD. Harrison was Attorney General. Samuel was working for Brian Thompson and had just won the heart of Cynthia Thornton from a Governor and a Prince, no less. That should give you some idea of the power of a Lassiter man.
