STORY 10

"This conversation weaves around the complex, enchanting imagery of ‘Mellow Apocalypse’. It dips into the issues of visual culture in the modern consumer culture, where we seem to be drowning in imagery that overwhelms us with senseless intensity.

How do we find ourselves in this world and approach reality in the maze of real and imagined memories? There are perhaps no clear answers to this, but here are some guidelines from one experienced traveler."

, in conversation with Ieva Melgalve, featured in NORK vol.6.

"You (being you) know that today is another day of ordering an iced americano. I (being your
barista) know this too. You come in every day, order the same drink, and I (being your barista)
serve it to you – except for two days a week. I know you. You (being you) know that I
(being your barista) likely remember your drink since you're a regular customer and also since you
(being you) like routine and order. But little do you know that I (being your barista) also
remember that one comment you made about your son Nick, who is three and fell off his bike
the other day. You probably would expect even less that I (being your barista) remember your partner's name, what they do, and could point them out in public space even though they only visited once. I guess that I (being your barista) should only remember your name and drink order at best, right?"

For NORK volume 6, we have created a memory-book-style magazine with interactive pages that you can fill out yourself and give to your friends for them to fill out.

The idea of the ‘memory’ issue was based on the memory books many of us had as kids, which now serve as fascinating time capsules. Not sure what we’re talking about? Well, here’s a quick explanation: a memory book was either a pre-made book with questions your friends and crushes filled out in the hallway during school lunch breaks - or an empty notebook kids would DIY with glitter and their own special, often clichéed questions. Did that jog your memory? We hope so, and if not - you definitely missed out!

Memory books would contain all our thoughts, likes and dislikes, favorite pop songs, and incredibly sweet, innocent statements that just make our bellies hurt from laughter when we’re reading it now.

We hope that this new issue of NORK will bring parts of that lovely childhood feature back to life in 2021.

👁Writers wanted 👁We are still missing some original, interesting texts/diary excerpts for our upcoming volume 6 with theme MEMORIES/ MEMORY. Maybe you kept a diary when you where working in a library and observing weird and funny people? Or that time you worked as a bartender in a hotel in Greece? Maybe you have an imaginary story to tell us? Maybe you want to travel back in time and tell your child-self some wise things. Maybe you want to do an interview with someone who studies Alzheimer’s or someone who has been in coma and seen things? Let us know.
Send us an email to [email protected] with your idea and we can take it from there.

The world's largest archive of «The Unknown», located in Sweden.

Spanning 550 square meters with fourteen rooms and more than 3 kilometres of shelf space is the AFU, Archives of the Unexplained. The grand collection consists of millions of documents and newspaper articles, thousands of books, pictures, movies and tape recordings and hundreds of posters, toys, stamps and rare stones. These contain people's stories and observations of remarkable astronomical observations, rare phenomena in nature, conspiracy theories and reports of UFOs or other unidentifiable objects. Here, gnomes, aliens, poltergeists and angels appear side by side sea monsters, Bigfoot and actual animals that became extinct a long time ago.
