Have you ever been angry at God?

I know, I know that sounds like a really bold statement!

Have you been angry at God because of the loss of someone?
Have you been angry at God because you think you deserved something and lost it?
Have you been angry at God due to another Christian’s misdoings?
Have you been angry at God for one or more things not listed here?

You don’t have to raise your hand up to signify but please read through this.
Many times we go through life with pain and hurt in our hearts especially towards God. This could be as a result of something that had gone wrong along the way. We felt that God should have come through for us more than we experienced. Sometimes like Job’s wife we want to just “curse God and die”.
Sometimes we are even angry at God but don’t know that we are. We shut our minds to everything that has to do with God - the church, Christians, the Word, prayer etc.

I understand how you feel, or maybe I don’t. The Bible records examples of people who had at one point or the other been angry or expressed disappointment towards God - Jonah, Jeremiah, Moses and even John the Baptist. So you see, you’re not alone. However, a lot of times this anger is as a result of how we believe or think God should act in certain circumstances and when it doesn’t go our way like Jonah we become disgruntled and run far away.

Running from God in our times of anger doesn’t solve anything rather it takes us farther away from God and the season he would have us walk through. Instead of running away from God, that anger should drive us towards God and towards having a conversation with him. God can shoulder your anger, he can bare your rage but only when we involve him. And one thing is sure, even in our rage he always answers - the Prophets Elijah and Jonah are practical examples of this.

So when next you feel hurt, angry or disappointed in God please carry it all to the Lord; he hears!

Don’t stay mad at God forever!

One of the surprising things that greeted me upon relocating to the UK was how fast the weather could change in less than a minute. There are days where I have experienced 3 different weathers - rain, snow and sunshine. It can be very frustrating a lot of times because you don’t know what to wear or if to hold an umbrella. I’ll call it a very erratic weather.

Would it surprise you to know that sometimes in our relationship with God we act as erratic as this weather. Today we are loving up on God and burning like fire, and in the next moment we are acting as though God doesn’t exist to us. We are “tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind.”(Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭14‬). Many times we let the world and our environment dictate our response to God and his service. When things are going well, “God is good” but when something changes is he still good?

Do your emotions, state of the nation, family needs or even work demands change how you view and relate with God from time to time?

We must be deliberate to stay the course regardless of what our environment says or dictates; that though the rain comes or the wind blows we will stay steadfast to our King.

Until we see ourselves the way God sees us we may become consumed in the world’s definition of “self-worth”.

Trust the Lord to open your eyes to see yourself the way he sees you. This will save you from the lies and the deceits of the enemy.

One of the things that has helped me grow spiritually is serving in God’s vineyard. I grew up in a family where both of my parents held positions in church, my siblings served in one or two units within the church and it was almost impossible not to follow suit.

While some see service to God as a burden, some others see it as a reason to “carry shoulders up”. However, I believe that choosing to serve in whatever capacity God enables us helps us to really grow into maturity. It is also an opportunity to put to use your talent(s) for God rather than burying them.

Many shy away from serving because they don’t want to be committed or because they feel they aren’t “spiritual” enough to serve.

Here are 5 things service to God will do for you:

📍It will help develop and put into use the gifts and calling of God upon your life.

📍 It will strengthen your connection to your local church and other believers.

📍It will place on you a spiritual sense of responsibility and serve to caution you at times.

📍It will help you lay up for yourself treasures in heaven.

📍It will open you up to opportunities for spiritual learning, guidance and discipleship.

If you have been running away from service to God in your local assembly or any place that God has placed you, this is your cue to ask God for leading to where he wants you to serve😊

PS. The photo in this post was taken about 7 years ago when I served in the NCCF Drama unit of Jigawa state 😃

04/07/2023

Many of the times when I have felt a disconnect from God, I have traced this to the absence of quiet in my life. I have noticed that in periods where there is so much noise within or around me I find it quite difficult to hear God and hear him clearly.

It’s so easy to get carried away with the noise of things going on around us. Even when we try to sit still we feel as though we are missing out from a lot of things and want to take part in the next big thing.

Do you remember the story of Elijah after he ran away from Jezebel?
Do you remember how God spoke to him? Not in the sound of the wind, or the earthquake, neither did he speak through fire but with a still small voice (1Kings 19:11-12).

Your lack of discernment or ability to hear from God isn’t because God is not speaking. A lot of times, it is because we have been deafened by the noises around and within us. One of the ways to maintain a stillness of heart is by having periodic retreats. This helps us to shut our ears to the noise and focus on Jesus.

May the Lord help us🙏🏼

I saw this post on story and I couldn’t agree more. As we journey in faith, we may admire the giftings and calling of God in the lives of people we know. Sometimes, we may even slip into the “if I had this kind of gift, aye a gbo, orun a mo (the world will hear of it)” thought.

We must however be reminded that a lot of times before the glory comes a consecration. Before you envy the glory or pursue it be sure you are ready to also devote yourself to the consecration.

If you have seen the movie “Prophet Suddenly” by you will understand this better.

May we humble and devote ourselves to consecration strong enough to bear the glory.

27/06/2023

After reading the book, “Good Morning, Holy Spirit” by Benny Hinn in 2012, one of the things I began to actively do was involve the Holy Spirit in my daily activities. I wanted to experience this personalised relationship that Hinn passionately wrote about. In a bid to do this, I would converse with the Holy Spirit, ask questions, seek directions. One of such directions was on what to wear (I did this as often as I remembered and when I wasn’t trying to be a coconut head 🤣) One of those mornings, I had wanted to wear a green and white dress to class and HS said no. Omoo! I had planned this outfit in my head, ironed it and set it out only to hear a NO. Coconut-headed me still went ahead to wear it and then just as I was approaching the lecture theatre, a bat (one thing OAU is famous for) pooped on me. I was disoriented almost throughout the day. If only I had listened!

As I’ve grown in faith, one of the things that I’m most grateful for as a Christian is the gift of the Holy Spirit. I even appreciate him more as an adult because how am I supposed to do this adulthood thing without God the Spirit?

Personally, I think without the person of the Holy Spirit the idea and person of God might have been vague to a lot of us. The Holy Spirit helps me to personalise my relationship with the Trinity.

I like that I can converse with God through his Spirit and receive responses.
I like that I can ask questions and get answers.
I like that I can giggle at jokes that the Holy Spirit shares.
I like that I can get an “I told you so” prompting when I decide to still be strongheaded.

When Jesus said that he would be sending a Standby and a Counselor (John 14:26 AMP) he meant it.

This is a reminder to you today to build your relationship with God through the Holy Spirit. You can check out some of the books I’ve shared on here about getting to know the Holy Spirit.

I’ll like to hear from you, have you had any funny Holy Spirit moment?

20/06/2023

When I met my husband in 2020, there was very little I knew about him. We didn’t have any common ground so it was even more challenging to build a relationship as there was no connecting factor. As we got talking, I began to know things about him, some by observing him and others through what he told me. Until we got into a relationship, I couldn’t say I really knew him because knowing a person goes beyond just having superficial knowledge about them.

Almost 2 years in marriage and I can say what I thought I knew about my husband is nothing compared to what I know now. Why’s this?
The truth is none of us can build an effective relationship with whoever until we really get to know them; and this can only happen when we devote ourselves to constant communication and cultivate a desire to know more.

Knowing a person and knowing about a person are two different things. As Christians, many times we think that we know God just because he is preached about in church or because we have a Bible that we open once in a while. This is fallacy! We then wonder why God isn’t speaking to us or using us in big ways. To know God, we must move from knowing about him to desiring a close relationship with him. Just as in my marriage; the more time we spend with a person, the better and deeper we get to know about that person.

Why do you think the apostles were called Christians? Because they had spent so much time knowing Jesus Christ that they began to act like him.

Will you move from just knowing about God to indeed knowing him?
