This day in history: July 11, 1960

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, written by Harper Lee, was published.

Although sometimes a focus of controversy for it's frank depiction of sensitive topics, not condemning racism harshly enough, and a lack of depth regarding Black characters, the novel's exploration of racial justice issues is considered by many to have had a positive impact on the civil rights movement of the 1960s by raising awareness about systemic racial inequalitity.

We want to eventually cover this book because it is one of my all time favorites. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Fun listicle this morning.

I can’t say I agree with all the choices here…

Not every book was made for the big screen, and not every filmmaker can capture the essence of a good book.

In this episode Kaylia Metcalfe and Cynthia chat about this funny book/film about su***de. Also, was Sonja an angel, a cat, a long suffering woman trapped in a (borderline) abusive relationship, a manic pixie dream saint? Maybe all of the above? Listen now as Kaylia mangles Swedish names and Cynthia channels her inner Ove/Otto.

Lisa Loring, whose creepy yet cherubic portrayal of Wednesday Addams in the 1960s television series “The Addams Family” originated a role that has been revived in films and, most recently, a popular Netflix series, died on Saturday. She was 64.

Pictured here in 1964, she auditioned for the role when she was 5. https://nyti.ms/3jeLqaH

New Episode Alert!
Kaylia and Sarah discuss The Quiet Boy (short story) and Antlers (movie adaptation) in the newest episode of Pages and Popcorn. When you base a feature-length film on an 8,000-word short story, you have to add some stuff. But some of the things they added were truly scary. We talk about the stories behind the plots, the people behind the monsters, and the big sins behind the padding. Plus a tease about a future PPP episode!
