1 YEAR MISSING: Today marks one year since then 3-year-old Orson West and then 4-year-old Orrin West were reported missing from their backyard in their California City home. Both adoptive parents were home at the time. The adoptive father Trezell West said his wife was wrapping Christmas presents inside while he was gathering wood from the side yard for a fire, as the boys played in the backyard. Then suddenly, they disappeared. Trezell said the side gate was open and the adoptive parents believe their kids were kidnapped.
The West's other four children have been in Child Protective Services custody for about a year as well, after authorities removed them from the Wests as they investigate what happened to Orrin and Orson. In total, police have executed 48 search warrants, conducted 116 interviews, coordinated 27 searches in California and 4 out-of-state searches. No suspects formally named and no one arrested.

December 2020 --
My phone rings. It was my assignment editor. "This is big. We're sending you to California City." My response -- "California City? Why?" He would tell me two boys were reported missing.
Immediately, I thought this was a huge misunderstanding. There's no way two boys disappear at the same time from their home while both parents are there. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening.
These kids have been on my mind for a whole year. What in the hell happened to them?! By far the most bizarre case I've ever worked.

For those following the Kristin Smart case & the Your Own Backyard podcast, a new development…

We asked and you delivered. Since appealing to the Central Coast in Episode 10, I’ve received dozens of tips from citizens who have spotted unusual activity. Several of those tips pointed to one area in particular, and after passing the information on to law enforcement, investigators are following up TODAY and searching for Kristin Smart’s body in an area of rural Arroyo Grande that the Flores family has returned to repeatedly.

I’m sure you have a lot of questions that I can’t answer yet. I just wanted to take a moment to thank the community for making this happen. Thank you for keeping an eye on your own backyard. Thank you for using your voice to help a family who suffered for so long without answers. Don’t stop now 🤙🏼💜
