Halloween ends review
Evil dies tonight,.. or at least the end of era died tonight.
Halloween ends written by Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, David Gordon green, and Chris Bernier,. Based on characters created by Debra hill and the great John carpenter. Let’s dive in. Ask yourselves,
What does “murder she wrote”, (RIP Angela Lansbury). “Natural born killers” , “Dexter”, and “when Harry met sally” have in common? Not much except them being unknowingly the inspiration for this , for lack of better words poorly written script with no substance except for the hope of dark aspirations of nostalgia. This movie solely relied on a “remember when we did this in the first film?” (‘78) the film was predictable, the cheesy lines and catch phrases were cliché the kills scenes were good and creative,. But they weren’t enough to rescue this disaster piece. It feels as if they used Michael myers as a trope to tell a similar tale of someone else then rushed the climax to end Laurie and Michael’s story.

~~~reader warning **spoilers ahead**~~~
The film summery in a large nutshell
There are two time jumps setting up the story for the new antagonist of young sitter Corey Cunningham for the Allan family, which started as a great introduction, and let me say that the first 10 minutes of this movie caught me so off guard with an exclamation of “oh damn!” We then jump ahead to now 2022 into a town still On the mend from the events of “Halloween kills” Michael myers is in the wind and “missed dearly” the people of haddonfield trying to fill the void to find a new boogieman. Things are so bad even the High school marching band have become bullies who become the catalyst for young Corey Cunningham’s dark path starting when Laurie intervenes Corey being injured by them for not buying them alcohol Sarah conn,.. I mean Laurie Strodes,.. hands him a knife and we get our first kill,. A tire. She then dumps him off to hook up with her granddaughter Allyson who is a nurse at the local hospital, it’s love at first sight. The end,… just kidding there more set up when Allyson invites Corey to a Halloween party where he dawns the mask,.. don’t get your hopes up it’s just a plastic scarecrow mask, we also get a cameo by none other than Nick castle. Corey then flees ashamed and embarrassed by a drunk ms Allen for him having a “good time” while she still lives in misery from his past. Corey is once again confronted by the marching band who end up getting the best over him ultimately throwing him off a small overpass and take off leaving him to his own fate.. he’s then seen being pulled into drain pipe into the sewer where you guessed it,. Michael Myers has been living right under the town noses for years. Corey wakes up and you get your first introduction to Michael as he gets the squeeze on Corey’s throat. This is where things get weird as Michael has a look into his “padawons” eyes and releases him. Shortly after he’s confronted by a homeless man wondering why Michael let him live. A short scuffle ensues and he accidentally intentionally gets his taste for murder. He then starts to date Allyson slowly gaining attention of something being off by Laurie familiar mannerisms to her past we then go on a downward spiral of revenge killings of people who’ve wronged Allyson and Corey introduced their new catch phrase “burn it down” Corey keeps returning to Michael for him to show him how to kill, even donned his old scarecrow mask so they could tag team a few times. But Corey wanted more so he assimilated the identity of myers to complete his rampage somehow overcoming 65 year old Michael taking his mask then began recklessly killing those who crossed him from his own mentally abusive mother, the band geeks, a radio Djs,.. and finally Laurie who’s being standing in his way of Allyson because if he can’t have her,.. nobody can. Yeah he went there. We’re then back at Laurie’s house where she calls 911 to report a su***de after finding out her granddaughter chose to leave with Corey,. followed by a gunshot and chunks,. Of a pumpkin! “it’s a trap” she set for her stalker who she quickly plugs twice with her revolver sending him downstairs where she confronts him as he takes off the mask to expose what she already knew was Corey. Knowing his untimely fate he uttered again “if I can’t have her nobody will” he then Stabbed himself in the neck just in time for Allyson to walk in as Laurie is standing over his lifeless body. She then leaves abruptly Laurie again alone as the mask is picked up by it’s myers we get more nostalgic shots Laurie being stalked in her home by the boogieman. A scuffle begins and slams from both to each other intimately lading Michael being pinned down with a butcher knife to the one hand carving knife in the other pinned leg by the fridge with mask now off she stabs him in the side and slits his throat and this pi**ed him off because he ripped his hand out and began strangling Laurie only to have Allyson who came back because he had a revolution that her grandmother was right about Corey freeing her from strangulation then slitting his wrist bleeding him like a pig. This is about the time the police showed up because wolf the su***de call. Standing over a bloody myers Laurie and Allyson are confronted by frank and the rest of the PD who with the help of the mayor past survivors and onlookers tie Michael to the roof of their vehicle taking him to the junkyard where Corey worked taking law into mob rule throwing his lifeless body into the extreme shredding machine where you see in great detail michael myers was erased from the terror he caused. Halloween ends with Allyson finally leaving haddonfield at peace and Laurie still obviously shook from events battered and bruised visited by Frank FINALLY getting the nerve to “blossom” into a new relationship.
Alright folks,.. here it is. Finally,.. like it’s been out for more than a few days. finally got to sit down and watch the new for best saying a “reimagining” of Clive Barkers film “hellraiser” derived from his novela “the hellbound heart”
the ‘22 adaptation was directed by David Bruckner best known from his previous anthology series V/H/S, southbound, the ritual, and the new-esk creeepshow.
Hellraiser, Keeping true to its franchise tells a tale of “sought out power with unwanted rewards.” Following a troubled young woman “Riley” played by Odessa A’zion, who through a small setting of events and challenges, ends up with the lament configuration (the box) and follows a very twisted adventure in horrorland, Alice herself would be envious of,.
Without spoilers Jamie Clayton’s version of the hell priest “pinhead” was gore-geous,. Her dead eyes staring literally into the window of your soul, her torn flesh made garb, her soft yet sinister voice taunting and urging. And the chains the glorious chains.
(Side note if you’re one of those pi**ed about this version or mad they chose a girl, suck it up buttercup it works well! And,.. and,…. Doug Bradley gave his unofficial blessing)
The cenobites taking new life from a few similar aspects of past versions imagined by barker which you may have recognized from the released images. The effects team brought their own A game to the mix using good ol’ practical effects lots of gore used “sparingly” and personally, I’m so glad they ditched the S*M gimp suits to be “frank”.. their looks left me feeling both curious and uneasy because knowing how one comes to be, you could only imagine the pain they endured to become their present selves.
The lament configuration,. It was definitely redesigned but remained the same if that makes sense,. The small additions to the functions almost reminded me of “phantasm” you’ll get the reference when you see it.
The title sequence was an absolute homage to its original and composer Ben Lovett brought the noise paying tribute to the original score through the film.
One could only hope this just the first sights to show us in this successful reboot or just a continuation to expose the new generation to hellraiser and it’s unique exploration of dark mind of Clive Barker.
I’m not going to rate this film because it deserves more respect, that being said,. I will just leave you with suggestion to watch it in its own furthest dimension.
As always if you made it to the end of my review I thank you for taking the time to read it.
This image popped up on my feed as well as a few more ads for the new “hellraiser” on hulu Directed by David Bruckner and Produced by Clive Barker. Inhale reservations because I’m all about the Doug Bradley rendition,.. but with every new image promises of lore expansion and the promise of pleasure for pain, open my expectations emensly. I will post a full review when I get a chance to watch it in a week or so,. Schedule pending. Click here for official trailer and let me know what you think below. https://youtu.be/oUlgwJNdu2I
We watched the new munsters movie on Netflix,.. starting off with “it wasn’t great,.. but” let me splain. The characters were on point,.. the costumes on point,.. grandpa and Herman were funny and again on point.. no complaints on lily (she was a tad exaggerated at points but that’s ok) so the meat and potatoes is that this was filmed as to be an origin story, 1 hour 40 minutes origin story sprinkled with intros to abstract characters from the series. the film consisted of clips and snippets reimagined from the original series with the twist of lime from rob zombies retro style filming, full of awkward angles and intense color lighting and EXTREME CLOSEUPS!,.. even a cool animation-esk scene. My take from this is that it left me wanting more and I’m pretty sure there won’t be. This should have been shot as limited series. Like I really wanted to see more of it being a fan of the original show, Zombie definitely did it well and gave it justice. The abrupt end left me straight faced. If you are a munsters fan or a rob zombie fan or hell, let’s get wild and say both,.. def give it a watch. it’s fun at best! Misunderstood at worst. 7/10 🦇
