Anguilla Writers Association To Be Formed – Call Goes Out To Creatives To Come On Board
The Valley, Anguilla - A call is going out to writers, poets, publishers and editors to register their interest in forming an Anguilla Writers Association (AWA) by attending a General Meeting this Saturday 16th March, 2024 at the Valley Boys School hall at 4.00pm.
For some time now an interim grouping of six persons have been laying the ground work for the formation of such an association.
Five of the six persons attended the 20th St. Martin Book Fair in June, 2022 and resolved to reach out to other artistes and bring them under a general umbrella of literary association.
The grouping has undertaken several activities to date including the hosting of two Caribbean Literature Days evening of selected Caribbean Writers presentations on July 12th, 2022 and 2023; and collaborating with three other entities to host the first annual BOATIFICATION from March 2nd to 3rd, 2023. BOATIFICATION is a celebratory mix of Anguillians’ love for Books, Boats and Jollification.
To date a social media presence has been established; a data base is being organised; and a WhatsApp information group has been set up for the ease of sharing information.
It is expected that during the General Meeting, a formal resolution will be passed to form an Anguilla Writers Association. An Interim Steering Committee will also be put in place to finalize a basic constitution, develop membership categories, and plan activities.
A number of activities are already on the drawing board to take place later this year including participation in the 22nd St. Martin Book Fair during the first weekend in June; the Caribbean Literature Day on July 12th; and the second annual BOATIFICATION in November.
The meeting on Saturday is FREE and open to all creatives and interested persons.
All persons intending to attend are asked to be on time.
