If you’re selling a product or service: you better be explaining how people can shop with you!
Customers don’t want to have to dig around for a link… if it takes them more than a few clicks to shop - they’ll give up and keep scrolling 😵💫
It might feel repetitive to always explain how to shop with you, but you have to think of it from a customer’s perspective: What if this is the first time they’re ever coming across your content..z Is it self-explanatory? Is it easy for them to shop? Does the shopping link take them straight to the product?
If you answered “no” to any of those questions, it’s time to edit your captions!
And if you’re tired of trying to figure out social media on your own: send me a message! I offer content plans, channel audits, and full service social media packages - all personalized to meet your business goals.

Best Friend Reality Check: A scheduling tool isn’t going to solve all your content problems 👀
If you aren’t already posting consistently, you DO NOT need to start paying for a scheduling tool. Use the free options that Meta provides first, and down the road start researching tools that might save you time and effort.
I don’t want this to turn into a tool bashing post, because there are great ones out there - so if you have one that you love, shout it out in the comments for those that ARE ready for one!

I’ll say it louder for the people in the back: STOP POSTING AND GHOSTING! 🙅♀️
1. If someone takes the time to comment on your post, how do you think they feel if they never get a response… 👀 They’ll definitely think twice before engaging with your content the next time!
2. Engagement is such an important factor when the algorithm is considering what content to push out to more people. If it sees your post has back and forth conversations happening in the comments (meaning you’re helping keep people on the app), it’ll start to push it out to more people!
You don’t have to be responding to comments all hours of the day, but make sure you set aside some time within that first 24 hours of posting to go back and engage with commenters.
And if the thought of keeping up with your commenters sounds exhausting… it’s time to start thinking about hiring a social media manager to do it for you. 💕

When’s the last time you checked your links on Facebook and Instagram? 👀🙈
I know you have a million things on your to-do list, but add this homework to your more immediate list: you might be losing out on sales and leads if you’ve got Christmas links sitting out there 😩
And I know someone will be wondering: how many links should I even have? Can I just use a link extender?
Online shoppers these days don’t want to have to wade though 100 links to find what they’re looking for. Make it EASY for them to shop. My rule is 3 links max - yeah I said it, THREE MAX 😂
So even if your links are current… maybe it’s time to slim them down a bit 😘

Let me make something clear: Following trends has never been a social media STRATEGY. Trending audio is a tool in your toolbox, but if your account is full of you recreating or reposting someone else’s videos… it’s time for a reality check 😅
Instagram has officially come out and said they want you making unique, original content! Think about it from a user perspective: Do you get annoyed when you’re scrolling and you keep hearing the same audio, or see everyone doing the same dance or skit? I know I do 🙈
And when users are bored or annoyed, they leave the app and go find something else to occupy their time. Instagram wants people to keep scrolling, so they’re going to start favoring and rewarding unique content in the app - they even went so far as to say if they can find the original piece of content that’s being reposted / recreated, they’re going to link to it and push it out more!
So if you’re someone who currently relies on trends, or reposting someone else’s content: it’s time to rethink your social media strategy! Not sure where to start? Comment STRATEGY and I’ll reply with a few original content ideas for your industry!

If you’re following any social media coaches you’ve probably heard about the test that Meta is running in Australia and New Zealand: they are giving small business owners the option to pay for more reach, engagement, and Meta support.
Everyone is acting shocked at this news, but it’s really not that shocking… Zuckerberg runs a business, and business owners want to make money. These platforms have been free for a LONG time, and he’s experimenting with new ways to make money in his business.
Do I want you to abandon all your Meta channels? NO. This is just a small test, and I’ve watched many Meta tests get shut down over the years.
Instead of wasting energy bitching about what Zuckerberg is doing (or not doing), you should be using your energy to go create awesome, original content that serves the reasons your customers are coming online.
Trust that I’ll let you know if there’s anything I think you should be worried about

Raise your hand if you spend a lot of time making content… and then let it sit in your drafts folder. 🙈 Check the comments, because I guarantee you - you’re not alone! I see so many business owners sitting on content because they’re frozen with fear over the “what ifs” once they hit that big scary post button.
So, be honest: How many posts, or Reels, do you have sitting in drafts? 👀 If you answered more than zero, I want to challenge you to pick something out of your drafts to post TODAY. And if you’ve already got something planned for today, then get that draft posted sometime in the next few days!
Don’t sit on content just because you’re nervous about what will happen. Worst case scenario? Maybe the trolls come out and spam the comments - you can delete the comments and block the trolls. Maybe the post doesn’t get any engagement. Also a fixable problem: you can go back and look at things to do differently on the next post. So much of social media is the willingness to experiment and try again!
If you get brave and post something from your drafts, I wanna hear about it! 🩷

If you’re social media posts aren’t getting great engagement (or any engagement at all), there are five possible reasons why:
1. You don’t have a call to action (CTA) in your post. Make sure every post has a CTA, and it’s clear how you want them to engage with the post!
2. What you’re asking them to do is considered “too risky”. They might not know you well enough (yet) to engage, or the topic isn’t something they feel comfortable engaging with.
3. Inconsistent posting. If you’re only posting every once and a while, the algorithm doesn’t trust you to keep posting - so it’s not going to waste time pushing it out to a ton of people.
4. Relevancy. Is the content relevant to your audience? Low engagement can be a sign that your content isn’t serving one of the reasons your audience is online.
5. Bad timing. Consider when your audience is online, and try to post during times of the day where they’d be free and scrolling their phone.

There are a lot of rumors floating around about hashtags, so let’s break down what Instagram themselves has said:
1. Less is more. Instagram suggests 3-5 hashtags, all of which should be relevant to the topic of your post. I’ve even seen some creators say Instagram has been limiting their posts to 6 hashtags… so start experimenting with LESS and see what happens! Cause some people think Instagram is about to force you to use less anyways…
2. Hashtags (alone) are not going to get you in front of new eyeballs. They send a signal to the algorithm about the topic of your post, but they are no longer used for discovery purposes. Instagram wants you to put more energy and focus into creating valuable content, with a beefy caption.
3. Make sure you’re using a variety on each post - don’t copy/paste the same 3-5 each time!
4. There isn’t any reliable research about how hashtags affect your Facebook posts. Feel free to experiment with them there, but don’t expect any magic.
💡I know that staying on top of social media best practices is A LOT - but that’s what I’m here for! So make sure you’re following me for more social media tips.
➡️ Then, tell me in the comments: How many hashtags have you been using on your posts lately?

I’M BEGGING YOU: Please make your FB + IG captions longer than 1-2 sentences! If you’re going to put the effort into making a graphic, taking a photo, or recording a video - don’t fumble at the 1-yard line with a crappy caption.
The Meta algorithm is scanning your captions to try and categorize your content, and it can’t learn a whole lot about your post from 1-2 sentences. Give it a longer caption so it can push your content to the right people!
Ways to make your caption longer: Share a story, expand on the tip, give more product details or usage examples.

Do you post the same things to your Facebook business page and business Instagram? 👀
When you’re first starting out, I don’t think it’s a bad thing! It helps you get consistent on both channels, and if someone looks you up in either place you’ll at least have an active presence.
BUT, that plan won’t serve you long term and eventually you’re going to have to develop specific strategies for each channel… and if that sounds overwhelming, then it might be time to bring a social media manager on board! OR, it’s time to pick one channel and focus on making it the best it can be.

One of the most common questions I get from small business owners is, “But what am I even supposed to be posting about?!”
And lucky for them, I LOVE coming up with content plans and ideas… No seriously, I will geek out about content plans all day long 😂
Here are some general post ideas to try next week! You don’t even have to do them in a specific order, or use a specific content type: take these prompts and make them your own 🥰

I’ll say it louder for the people in the back: The algorithm doesn’t hate you, it hates your bad content!
These types of post might help boost your reach and engagement on your next few posts... but if you haven't changed anything about your content strategy, you'll probably dip right back down to low reach and egagement, because the real problem is that your content is bad!
Fact: Meta wants people to spend time on Facebook and Instagram… and what keeps people scrolling on both apps? A consistent stream of content that they find relevant, entertaining, educational, inspiring, and/or that helps them connect with people like them.
So if people are scrolling past your posts without engaging, Meta takes it as a sign that your content isn’t interesting enough to keep people on their apps, and it and tries to find something else that person wants to see… content they think will keep them on the app longer.
It’s not that Meta doesn’t want your small businesses to succeed: it’s that your content isn’t helping THEIR business succeed. Meta would love for your content to get a ton of engagement, because that helps their bottom line!
If your content isn’t getting the engagement you’d like, it’s time to revisit what makes content valuable:
- Is it relevant to your audience.
- Is it easy for them to consume.
- Does it prove them education, entertainment, inspiration and / or the opportunity for connection?

It’s true! Meta accounts that are consistently posting valuable content, even if it’s not daily or multiple times a day, are seeing amazing results! 🥳This is GOOD news for all my small business friends: you can start to put your energy into the quality, versus the quantity, of the posts you’re putting out. 🙌🏻 Tell me in the comments: How often are you posting content on IG or Facebook right now?
