Saheim
Imagine, just over a century ago there were only a few hundred people living in this valley of Vestfjorddalen. Then, everything changed.
On Tuesday we begin telling the story of some of the greatest feats of engineering and human willpower ever told.
A hungry world waited.

TO THE NORTH
During the past weeks, we have been spending our time in Notodden following Sam Eyde and what would soon become the grandest entrepreneur feat in Norway’s history.
Now we turn our attention to the north, to Saaheim, an isolated gathering of small farms and fields situated alongside the river Måna in the deep valley of Vestfjorddalen. It was here that Hydro began the construction of the Vemork Hydroelectric power plant in 1907.
Enjoy this short Ian Brodie video looking west towards Gaustatoppen, with the start of hidden valley of Vestfjorddalen barely visible to the right. Massive changes would occur here during the next decade that would help to feed the world in its time of need.
Stay tuned.

Water - The Wild Telemark
More than anything else it is the water that speak for the Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage Site. If not for the waters that originate from high up on Hardangervidda in Vinje, the story would have been told in a completely different way – or not at all.
As we move into a weekend, enjoy just a glimpse of the sight and sounds of one of the many waterfalls in this region filmed by Ian Brodie.
