Most museums don’t want you to touch the artifacts, but Pueblo Grande Museum in Phoenix wants you to throw mud at one. The va’aki, or popularly known as the platform mound, at the museum is over 800 years old and preserved as a spiritual place. Once a month, volunteers come out to sling mud at the structure to stabilize it and “save the past for the future.” Amber Victoria Singer got her microphone muddy to find out more.

An annual explosive disposal training event brings public safety departments from around the world to discuss and practice techniques. Raven’s Challenge, held in Marana, is an international exercise funded by the Army and led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
“In the event of a really large critical incident, getting this training in now, and getting those relationships and partnerships will be beneficial in the event that there’s a major critical incident where these teams will have to come together,” said Thomas Hawke, special operations section commander at Tucson Police Department. Have you been caught in a haboob? Driven on a frontage road? Used a swamp box? These are some of the terms one may hear in State 48, and a new survey suggests the majority of residents want to see the state’s dialect preserved.
