To foster environmental sustainability, the village of Franklin Park has placed 10 beehives on the roof of a municipal building. The numbers of bees have been in decline in recent years, and bees are necessary to pollinate most food crops that humans eat, scientists say. Oak Park and River Forest also have beehives on public buildings.

Police have charged a hit-and-run driver who they say hit a pedestrian on Mannheim Road in Franklin Park, fled the scene and initially lied to police about it. Police reports show that a second vehicle may also have struck the man, but that vehicle hasn’t been found.
