uploaded a bunch of old mixes of mine to soundcloud last night. This techno mix has Charalambides, Alvin Lucier, Sun City Girls and the Doors. That's the kind of freeform nonsense you don't get every day.

I made this mix by just laying out songs in the computer. No adjusting tempo or beatmatching, mostly alternating between noisy stuff and techno-y stuff and throwing in some curveballs.

"From 1976 to 1982, Tony Conrad (1940-2016) created “Music and the Mind of the World,” a piano composition comprising over 200 hours of recorded music. During this time everything Conrad played on the piano was recorded (with the incidental exception of perhaps three or four hours). In this endeavor – which includes the sounds of practicing, banging on the keys, formal exercises, experiments with the harmonic sonority of the piano itself, and even “On Top of Old Smokey” – we witness what might in essence be described as the total encounter between an improvising performer and the central instrument of Western musical culture. Now, for the first time, this influential yet largely unknown work has been published by Arcangel Surfware and is now available online for free at the domain musicandthemindofthe.world."

Today I learned there was a Melbourne based post-punk funk band that broke up recently but not before covering 23 Skidoo's Last Words. Quick skimming through other releases and pretty surprised to hear a band so clearly referencing a certain type of 1982 UK post-punk funk that you don't hear every day.

Following up from Douglas MacIntyre's book announcement, he just posted this video, which is decidedly NOT post-punk but an interesting bit of history. Super glad to see this back in print, even if we didn't do it! Such a great record and so glad we got a chance to tell the story...but the Acute release is long out of print and quite valuable these days, so now someone else is doing god's work!

My Dad is Dead vinyl reissues. For a while he had all the albums up for free download on his website. Great stuff.

Feb 4 Release. If you look closely the cover pics are from a different angle, much as life is now viewed from a different angle, 35 yrs later. This will be a 2x vinyl lp, on S**t, with the long lost early cassette release from 1985 appearing as sides c and d. Hopefully the first in a line of reissues, if it does well enough.

Judging from the soundcloud clips, a truly fantastic mix tape from Ana da Silva of the Raincoats and DJ Mooncup, not that I'd need the soundcloud clips because has Ana da Silva ever done anything that wasn't awesome? Both sides of this tape seem to have some great stuff, I'm hearing Red Krayola, Fatal Microbes, The Fates etc.
