"The articles in Bayt are substantive and well-edited, while also infectiously enthusiastic and heartwarming. This magazine might well be the best way to get a sense of how enthusiastic, kind, and diverse the Call of Cthulhu fandom is just by reading something in the comfort of your home."
Thanks to the Zgrozy - Call of Cthulhu RPG supplements team for this kind and thoughtful review of Bayt al Azif for their recommended reading shelf in the Zgrozy Library!

Zgrozy Library: Bayt Al Azif
We continue the Zgrozy Library, presenting independent Call of Cthulhu releases we can wholeheartedly recommend you to all Call of Cthulhu fans. Most of the entries in the Library will be devoted to supplements from the Miskatonic Repository, but today we want to make an exception.
Bayt al Azif is a title that many people don't need to be introduced to, but still deserves more recognition. It’s a magazine dedicated to Call of Cthulhu and, to a lesser extent, other Lovecraftian games. It has five issues already, and each one radiates a huge fascination with all the new exciting things that can be done with Lovecraftian horror.
The main concept behind Bayt Al Azif seems to be: Lovecraftian mythology belongs to people today, and let's show what people are doing with it. In each issue you will find several Call of Cthulhu scenarios from different eras and places, as well as a discussion of the publishing line of various Lovecraftian RPGs from right before the issue was released, interviews with people active in the Cthulhu fandom in various ways, talks about personalizing and modifying official scenarios, and a whole bunch of other proofs that Cthulhu is alive and well. The team responsible for the magazine operates mainly from the USA, but they search for both topics and authors all over the world – which, of course, makes us very happy!
For example, in issue two, from August 2019, you will find:
-Interview with German fans who publish the fanzine Cthulhus Ruf
-English translation of Falsche Freunde, the first scenario from that fanzine
-Extensive recollections from Lisa Padol about adapting the Our Ladies of Sorrow scenario for her team
-Interview with Lynne Hardy, the editor of the Call of Cthulhu line, about writing and editing scenarios
-And much more!
The articles in Bayt are substantive and well-edited, while also infectiously enthusiastic and heartwarming. This magazine might well be the best way to get a sense of how enthusiastic, kind, and diverse the Call of Cthulhu fandom is just by reading something in the comfort of your home.
Issues are usually around 100 pages long, PDFs of them cost $6-10, and are currently on sale for 20-40% off as part of Christmas in July. If it is in your budget, we also highly recommend the print-on-demand versions ($10 and up). Bayt Al Azif is nice to have on the shelf, so that you can return to it every now and then. Link to all issues is in the comments.
