Every year or so, Barlow & I collect gently used dog supplies from our friends, work, & family to donate to a local shelter, rescue, or group.
•
A while back, we collected an entire back car full of items for Front Range German Shepherd Rescue and this year, we are focused on The Good Dog Rescue a group that focuses on saving dogs from high kill shelters!
•
If you are in the Colorado area, please consider checking them out. Even monetary donations help, every bit counts!
•
If you know us personally, we will be collecting items til the end of August! We are accepting things like:
•Gently used toys
•Gently used beds and blankets, pillows, etc.
•Unopened treats or bags of food
•Grooming accessories such as combs, brushes, nail clippers, other tools
•Collars, bandanas, sweaters, jackets that are lightly used
•Leashes
•Dog ramps, steps, carseats
•Anything else that is well taken care of and could be passed on to another dog in need ❤
•

Q: Who runs this page?

A: Hi everyone! My name is Hannah, and I am an engineer by day, PLUS a full time dog mom to my two pups Barlow and her little sister Eevee! I brought Barlow home first and she immediately became my entire personality. 😂 When I had the opportunity to move to an office that was 100% , I did not hesitate!! We started filming Barlow at the office on her other page, but she was so funny we decided to break out separately into her “corporate” pawfessional personality.

Aside from spending time with my dogs, I enjoy climbing, mountain biking, camping, skiing, hiking, and recently pottery! I have tons of house plants, and also am trying my hand at gardening (which isn’t going very well so far 🤭)

My engineering job is in the Aerospace industry, which I’ve been working in since college. This is where I met my partner and more importantly, Barlow and Eevee’s Dog Dad! I don’t plan to share much personal life on this page, but you may see more glimpses of it on our other IG account and a few hands/feet/voices here and there on our reels. 🤭

Q: What is Barlow wearing in her videos? Is that a bandana?!
A: Barlow’s special bandana lets her coworkers know that she has a very sensitive stomach (diagnosed IBD & EPI) so please no treatos and snackos! See her other videos for more information on her special bandana or her sensitive tummy.

Q: Is Barlow a service dog?
A: Nope! She’s a normal doggo that gets to come with me to work at our ! She’s 100% just a goober. 🤭

Q: Why does Barlow have two different Instagram accounts?
A: I made back in 2021 when I first adopted Barlow to share her journey to becoming a bike chasing, backcountry skiing, crag hanging adventure dog. When I got my new job that allowed Barlow to come to work with me, we started sharing some of her office adventures on her account, and people liked it so much we made a breakout account. Hence was born. We added YouTube, TikTok, and FB shortly after

Q: Can you tell me about Barlow? Breed? Gender? Age?
A: Barlow is a full breed, European-line German Shepherd. She is a female and quite small for her breed. I adopted her when she was turning 2 years old. She turns 5 in 2024!

Q: What is EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency)?
A: “Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is a condition that occurs when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough digestive enzymes to properly digest food and absorb nutrients” (ref: Google). Barlow was diagnosed very recently, so we are still very much learning about her condition. Epi4Dogs Foundation, Inc. is a wonderful resource for owners wanting to learn more about EPI.

Q: What is YOUR job?
A: I am an engineer, with a typical 9-5 office job. Barlow’s job is to be cute, hilariously clingy, serve plenty of side eye, and keep me company at work and bring joy to everyone around us.

Barlow Health Pupdate: After struggling with Barlow’s health for a long time, we finally have a clear diagnosis. Barlow was officially diagnosed with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) over the long, holiday weekend.

EPI is a very manageable condition, but was hard for us to diagnose in Barlow. We’ve struggled with her tummy and GI system for years, but her tests always came back healthy. Eventually, we found a decreased level of Cobalamin (B12) in her system, so she was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). She went on steroids and B12 supplementation, but the treatments didn’t seem to be managing the overall GI distress symptoms. Eventually, we confirmed her B12 levels had returned to normal, but she was still struggling. Doctors thought perhaps Barlow was just a victim of a sensitive GSD stomach. I considered this, but decided to keep pushing in search of answers.

After more extensive tests and scans, we finally located the cause of Barlow’s tummy problems. She has progressive EPI, so unfortunately her levels wouldn’t have been indicative of the condition until more recently. I personally had mixed emotions learning about the diagnosis: could I have done more? Did she really have to suffer for so long before a diagnosis? I suspected EPI a long time ago, should I have pushed harder when she was screened and deemed not to be suffering from it?

At the end of the day, we did all that we could. I am so thankful for the internal medicine specialty team we started working with at Colorado Animal Specialty & Emergency. They are amazing individuals who really understand dogs and especially German Shepherds.

It’s been a tough ride, and we still have a while to go as Barlow tries out new enzyme mixtures and food, but I have hope now that we finally have a name to her illness. Thank you to everyone who has supported and checked in. We love you and thank you!
