CordaSonora

CordaSonora In years, the content creation grew into a record label and photography/video production tailored for each formation.
(2)

CordaSonora, found by Esin Yardimli Alves Pereira and Ricardo Alves Pereira, began with the purpose of providing artistic and promotional material for ensembles the two musicians were participating in, extending from early music to jazz. CordaSonora team believes in artistic independence. Ricardo reflected this on his solo classical guitar career through Musical Narratives, a technique to redefine

the concept of concert repertoire and storytelling, and Esin expanded her career as a violinist from metal to jazz to world music and composing, aside from her international classical training. Their search for independence merged together in the first ensemble they became founding members of; the TWB ensemble recorded their first LP with the recording gear Esin obtained through winning the Outstanding Talent Award from the Keep An Eye Foundation for her participation as the concert-master of the Jong Metropole 2017 project that lead to her investment in music production and sound engineering. This became the beginning of a journey that is getting better by the minute. The CordaSonora philosophy is about presenting the product from a 100% authentic and autonomous channel; which is why not only the audio production but the visual content presented in this page are provided by the musicians themselves.

While .nap is mainly known today for his various classical and early music works, his musical journey on stage had started out with experimental live electronic music performances. RETROQUEST brings together Ricardo’s past and present, blending his early influences with a fresh and mature sound.

Have you heard this one? My Vielle and the Rest is a collection of 12th and 13th century songs, mainly but not only composed by troobadours and trobairitz, presented as instrumental music in their most profound and most candlelit form. Only the bonus track is originally an instrumental piece found to be notated at a later century.
The entire album is a duo between the instrument vielle and the silence, as hinted by the title. Each track is the result of a thorough research starting from the (if available multiple) manuscript/s, and a translation work that swims through Old Occitanian, Latin and other languages songs were originally written in, to get the essence of the song out without using the human voice.
Perfomed by Esin Yardimli Alves Pereira on her instrument Venus the Vielle, an instrument funded by The Wandering Bard supporters and made specially for her by Orlando Trindade, this album is made to experience the silence, enjoy the darkness and cherish everything one finds within.

In his third solo classical guitar album Streams of Tranquility, Ricardo Alves Pereira explores the still and the beautiful. The immersive and modern melodies weave the album’s soundscape into the depths of calmness within the contemporary music scene. Aside from presenting his skills as a classical guitar player, in this album Ricardo Alves Pereira also shares his composer side with the audience; and it is fresh, intimate and inviting.
The album consists of 15 compositions, some dating back to 2010 and some composed only weeks before the album was recorded, all with a sound that has its roots in contemporary and classical music, but with Ricardo’s musical language inspired by many other genres as well, one can hear hints of other styles within his music.

Have you heard this one? Esin Yardimli Alves Pereira presents her strong connection with Celtic music through her latest album “Rooted”. The album includes sets of high spirited and exuberant Irish folk tunes, sentient O’Carolan classics and some of her originals. Recorded with Colm Larkin on the Irish bouzouki and Ricardo Alves Pereira on the bodhran, the album sets ground for the audience to engage in centuries old yet still fresh traditional music.
The word ‘rooted’ means ‘worned out’, ‘ineradicable’ and ‘grounded’ at the same time and this album sits right in the middle of them since the title of the album represents the connection between the music and the people; Celtic and Irish folk music have been some of the most wide-spread styles of music around the globe. Because this music can make anyone feeling tired or worned out feel grounded and invincible once again, sparked by just the very first notes.
Throughout the tracks, a total of 35 tunes can be heard. Some well known jigs and reels, heartfelt ballads, some hidden gems and Esin’s own compositions blend together to warm our hearts; at times the fierce tunes with the non stop bodhran make us want to dance and at times the gentle tone of the violin and the bouzouki make us gaze through our sweet sad memories. Each track performed with loyalty to the genre, this album presents the authentic strengths of the Celtic music.

Have you heard this one? “The Foundation” is the second solo guitar album of Ricardo Alves Pereira. It is a complete collection of works first published in 1836, known as the Introduction à l’Étude de la Guitare, Op.60, written by composer and virtuoso guitarist Fernando Sor, one of the most famous musicians of the classical and romantic era.
With this album Ricardo Alves Pereira recalls the beginning of his classical guitar journey, shares his connection to the learning process of his instrument and adds a personal touch to the repertory by titling them with the essential emotions and thoughts that can be sparked with each piece that builds the very foundation of any classical guitar player’s musical language.

Have you heard this one? In The Songbook of Tchinar Vol. 2, Esin creates a majestic and striking musical environment suitable for storytelling and living in a fantasy world where magic doesn’t only live within.
Started off as soundtracks for a podcast series, The Songbook of Tchinar volumes became the most personal and authentic outlet for Esin Yardimli Alves Pereira. Taking on the task of orchestrating each composition with a single violin and a viola and her own percussion instruments,
In this volume of The Songbook of Tchinar, the audience is invited to yearn for more and get driven to dare.

Have you heard this one? Esin Yardimli Alves Pereira proves once again that her stylistic richness and self-sustainibilty can create an album full of enjoyment; wrapped up in historical and mythological research on the look out for Scandinavi folkloric authenticity.
Swedish folk tunes being one of the few styles that contain only a melody instrument in pairs, show the potential of simplicity to its maximum. Fed by nomadic cultures, established in hard-to-leave lands, the sound of this music contains longing, mystery, mythology and fiersome dancebilty.

Have you heard this one? OUD is the lightest, most peaceful, and most hopeful album of CordaSonora so far. It is the perfect introduction to Medieval music, presented as a solo collection of songs arranged for the oud. Ricardo Alves Pereira and his almond-shaped instrument invites the audience to be the visitors of a medieval inn, to enjoy a bard in the corner making his music.
The album consists of 14 melodies of the Cantigas de Santa Maria, transcribed directly from the original manuscripts “Códice de los músicos” and “Códice rico”, two song collections unparalleled for their musical richness, both attributed to King Alfonso X (1221-1284), and presented with arrangements by Ricardo Alves Pereira for Turkish oud, a close relative to the iberian medieval lute seen in the illuminations of the manuscripts of Cantigas de Santa Maria.
Crafted with passion and inspired by the mystical medieval Iberia, this album is a labor of love.

Esin’s own compositions; orchestrated, played, and produced by herself, provide the DMs with the background music for their epic battle scenes, tearjerker moments of love and loss, and the mead smelling inns where campaigners find a moment to gamble, gossip or gloat.

Have you heard this one? The sixth album by The Wandering Bard (TWB Ensemble) is a journey through musical marvels of the medieval Iberia. The album includes selected works from Cantigas de Santa Maria, attributed to Alfonso X, the Wise, a visionary Iberian king of the 13th century.
Each musical arrangement of this historical repertoire is crafted through a dedicated research by the ensemble’s co-founders, Esin Yardimli Alves Pereira and Ricardo Alves Pereira. The melodies that represent the multicultural richness of the medieval Iberia are transcribed from original manuscripts, mainly from Códice de los músicos.

Have you heard this one? In the 5th album of The Wandering Bard, the audience can hear the eternal works of Claudio Monteverdi, Luis de Narvaez and Alonso Mudarra in a way that was never heard before.
Majority of the repertoire of the album was originally written for solo Vihuela; an Iberian plucked string instrument from the Renaissance Era, with an addition of the prologue being Italian Baroque; all of which TWB Ensemble executes with a historically informed style, yet in their own way.

The Wandering Bard brings to the stage a very special repertoire of the Cantigas de Santa Maria, accentuating the connection that King Alfonso X, the Wise had with the songs, the music, the musicians, the saint, and the book of Cantigas de Santa Maria itself.

Prepare a visit to Leiria!
During the CMML (Ciclo de Música Medieval de Leiria) there will be six concerts and workshops along the year led by The Wandering Bard Ensemble with resident artist Antonio Casal and talented guests Jorge Luis Castro, Irene Brigitte and Orlando Trindade.
The events will take place in the castle of Leiria, organized thanks to the municipality of Leiria.
Before each concert there will be a workshop related to the repertoire the musicians will perform, shaped around the motto “Learning is Sharing”, aiming to create a stronger connection between the community and the music, for sharing the joy we feel towards these immortal melodies. In one of the events there will be an exhibition prior to the concert on music instruments from the medieval era as well.
With these workshops the general audience will gain insight on Alfonso X the Wise, Cantigas de Santa Maria, Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, Martin Codax, D. Dinis the Poet King, among many other joyous information and lore about medieval music and medieval culture, all of which will be heard during the concerts.
Placed on important days of pagan and religious calendar, the Cycle of Medieval Music of Leiria (CMML) will be spread throughout the year, starting on 6th of January, the King’s Day, in which we will take a closer look at the wise king behind the works of Cantigas de Santa Maria, and Santa Maria herself, as the cantigas refer, the maiden, the mother and the crone.
Come join us!

The 21st Century Troubadours

Long, long ago, four adventurers from three far away lands, journeyed to the low countries of the Netherlands in search of honor. One day, they met on the entangled channels of Amsterdam and took the quest of their life, as the storytelling Early&Folk music group 'The Wandering Bard'.

Inspired by the traditions of bards, these 21st century troubadours turn concerts into stories. The Wandering Bard build their concert style around an interpretive methodology their guitarist developed called 'musical narratives' in which the performers themselves narrate their own musical intention.

Be they of castle or countryside, the group’s musical narratives are about people: from the mad King Henry VIII with his six wives, to the doomed romance between a 17th Century Scottish soldier and an English woman; The Wandering Bard tells stories about the human experience. Formed with members from Turkey, Portugal and United Kingdom, the group made a base in the UK, as the stories that they tell form a strong connection with the island's culture.
